I like to fish, but don't like fish to eat, as weird as that must sound. Still, I get an immense amount of enjoyment from watching other people catch, clean and cook fish. This channel popped up in my recommendations just a couple of days ago when I was searching for bushcraft videos, and I watched a couple. I've now subscribed, since I enjoyed them so much.

How far do you usually drive to get to some of your spots? I’m from the slc area so I’m just curious.

Hey man, I like your enthusiasm for fishing. It seems you are struggling with some things, though, and thought I would remind you that there are probably a lot of experienced fishermen who watch your videos that you could shout out questions to while making those videos. Fishermen are generally very generous with their knowledge, and you will likely get all kinds of responses to your questions from local guys who know what you are dealing with around here. As for this particular post, you mentioned that the smaller bow was a bit mushy when you got it home. You stated you kept it on ice after catching it, which is the correct thing to do. However, I would encourage you to bleed your fish out while storing them as well. Just a quick cut across the gill plates and the fish will bleed out. Also, after keeping your fish on ice (it will freeze the meet) don't thaw it like you would some hamburger or a steak. The best way to thaw fish to prevent it from turning to mush is to place it in cold water. This will thaw it fairly quickly, and also help keep the meet from breaking down because the extreme temp changes. Remember, the smaller the fish, the more likely it will freeze completely through and then turn to mush if you thaw it traditionally. Good luck on your next trip, and keep wetting that line!

Honestly it would be cool if you went to a creek and fished with small poppers for trout

I try to clean my fish pretty quickly, and put on ice. Might've left the guts in there too long. Hate when it gets mushy like that.

i think if you gutted them quicker the meat would have stayed nice and firm. The gasses from decomposing guts affect the meat within two hours.

If you want the fish to taste better then you need to scale them

I do sometimes, but with trout it’s not as big a deal like it is with Bass and perch.

If I decide to keep any of the fish i catch i bleed them by snipping the gills and let them bleed into the water once i notice the blood pretty much stops flowing i gut them on the spot take them home and cook them up with butter garlic cloves thyme and rosemary with lemon

Get some needle nose pliers! One of these days your going to have one Rapala treble hook in your hand and the other hook in a 3 pound fish. Speaking from experience. The worst thing you can do when releasing fish is maul them while trying to get the hook out with your fingers. Watching bass fishermen on T V releasing fish drives me crazy!!!

I enjoy your videos and I'm all for using Rapalas and spinners. However every time you unhook a fish with your fingers it makes me cringe. You got stung a little on this video, but the potential to seriously bury a hook in your fingers or hand is very real. I used to be just like you and never use pliers or forceps. That was until about 10 years ago while trying to unhook a Rapala from a brown trout, and it buried the hook deep into the end of my finger. While I know how to remove hooks, this one was nearly impossible to get out. I was on a float trip on the Missouri River and I wasn't able to do much about it until after the trip. I had that hook in my finger for over 6 hours. It was so bad that it took a trip to the emergency room and some surgery to get it removed. The doctor bill was $680.00. Lets just say I'll leave my fishing pole home before I'll fish without forceps or needle nosed pliers to remove hooks. I 100% guarantee if you keep using your fingers to remove those hooks you will get stuck and stuck bad eventually. Its not a matter of if and definitely a matter of when. Learn from my mistake.
