Hi I just bought the knit pro ball winder and loved your hints - don’t have a suitable surface at the moment tried it on a glass table but it keeps sliding off and the nut comes loose - I notice you have a mat under yours what a good idea - also love the idea of going from the middle and using a bin or drawer for the ball - I have just started crochet but I seem to have built up a stash quite quickly - this will be ideal if I can master it - thanks

Wish my work so good too - just can't get an uniform cake from it - getting a lopsided and messy one which I have to rewind on my other small ball winder (you call it "ugly colored one") which works fine. Will return my Knit Picks and will buy another model instead which has a removable bobbin.

What did you have underneath your ball winder? It looks really cool I was just curious what that is. I have a ball wonder but it wobbles all the time that I’m using it, but otherwise I love it.
I have used it for my crochet thread. Both 30 and 10. My little secret is to save your toilet paper tubes and cut them in half. Slide half over the winder cylinder and wind that thread 😍

Hi can I ask you something, my auntie is wanting a mermaid tail blanket and she's got me Arron wool and the pattern I've got asks for chunky wool, do you think that would be ok to use? Xx
Michelle T - Hello! I'm a big fan of using what you have on hand, so I would go for it. What is the recommended hook size for your yarn? Is it similar to the one the pattern asks for? Worst case scenario you will have to add some stitches and some rows (if you are using a smaller hook), or your mermaid will be a bit more loopy (if you are using the same size hook. Either way - go for it!! Christa. xx!
My rewinder doesn't roll my yarn correctly. Instead of beeing like a cake ball, it rolls in diagonal direction only. Why ? Do you have an idea of the problem ?

Is it very heavy? We may be moving from the US to Europe pretty soon and I d9nt want to buy anything very bulky or heavy... do you have any problems with it?
It's not heavy at all! Super light weight. I have had no problems with it at all, but use the Stanwood instead - it's a lot faster. ;) When are you moving? And where to? How exciting! Christa. xx!
The Secret Yarnery Thank you for the fast answer! I have an eye on the Stanwood on but I'm afraid it may be too heavy to move it with us and I'll probably buy it when we are already there. We are planning to move next summer back to Poland where I am from - work perspectives for me are way better there (but thy don't have craft stores like I have here, in the States, which scares me a little ;-))
I finally bought one on eBay. It looks like Stanwood, its made of metal and it's blue. Probably it makes a little bit more noise than your Stanwood (but it doesn't squeak) but I expected it because the price tag was half of what Stanwood costs. Hopefully it will ship well when the time comes for our move. First night I made 14 yarn cakes on it and could do more but my hand was too tired ;-)

i got the knit pro and i have nothing but trouble. the yarn either slips off the top of the cake or wraps around the base. it doesnt wind like that with that dip. so annoying
I bought the cheapest one on amazon and it was useless. Wound the yarn into a gloppy mess. The tensioner wouldn't stay up. Sending it back and will get one that's made better
