I feel like that was more to do with the fact they were stuck in a time loop, making Deke's death meaningless then them not caring that he's dead. I think Deke had more than proved himself that if they weren't stuck in a loop that they would genuinely be devastated.
The funny thing about this he was originally called in to guest star for a small role for one episode, but they loved his audition so much they instead gave him a new full time role. The thing is, he is really good on the show and they made the right choice adding him to the cast late in the series.
He was Virgil and did the table read for him but thought he was such a great actor they invited him to audition for Deke as they hadn't found a Deke yet.
Yup, it's all in good fun. The cast loved his table read so much that THEY suggested to the producers that he be given a shot at the bigger role of Deke

I don't care what everyone thinks or feels about him: Jeff Ward is an amazing, incredible, & awesome actor. And I totally enjoyed his portrayal of "Deke Shaw" - Deke was like treated like an underdog & a joke, when in fact he was a clever, adaptable, enduring genius. A survivor. People would do wise not to underestimate him. Shame he didn't get together without Daisy; I was rooting for them both. Deke & Daisy forever!

the show already ended and i'm still not ready. definitely feels like deke didn't get as much closure to things as i had hoped and like the show is over right when the team was really starting to accept him.
