I used a flat head screwdriver to gently pry them out. Be gentle and use a sharp / very thin screwdriver.

wd spray and pry slowly with a flat head screwdriver. Pry around all the edges carefully.

My wife's maintenance guy just took apart our toilet before I could Google how it works...The toilet is in many pieces and I've just shown him the video, if I wasn't a foot taller than him he might have throttled me. Poor guy!
