To keep continuing to say let's talk about reparations is simply just another way of kicking the can down the road. Cut the check to the American Descents of Slavery! Just like it was done for the slave owners of the south, the Japanese and Jewish.
Reparations will change nothing. Just like tearing down Confederate statues.
And EVERYONE knows it.
Until the black community fixes itself, don't count on anyone "cutting a check".

What is Lindsey's ethnic background? Does she have an immigrant background or is she a descendant of slaves. I question why Black American descendants of slaves' shouldn't receive money to according to Lindsey, but Native Americans, Japanese, and the Jewish communities all got reparations. Instead she thinks reparations is to teach financial literacy? We as black Americans are seeing a lot of people with immigrant backgrounds are speaking on behalf of black Americans reparations talk, when it has nothing to do with people who's reaped the benefits because of black Americans descendants of slaves'fight for immigrants to be here in the first place. That's why I was asking Lindsey's background.

That's about the best dialogue I've heard on the subject because just handing money out isn't going to fix 400 + years of damage which still goes on today there has to be a certain mantra! which compels substantial growth.

The 40 acres were intended to be a temporary solution to an immediate crisis - newly emancipated slaves. It was never meant to be an outright transfer.
Scenario: You are owed $100,000, everything but your $100,000 is discussed. An Apology,a Program,that was too many years ago to matter. Do you want $100,000 or an Apology? Program? Dismissed?

Just spending money on this absurd way of dealing with humanity's imperfections and brutal treatment towards his fellow man, is lame at best. What about the polish and german jews? In America, chinese slaves? Didn't slavery start in Africa? If you calculate the worth of what all surviving races should get for horrific treatment, you're talking 'trillions of trillions'. You can't just pick one race. I'm all for fair play, but doing this reparation thing is basically snubbing everyone else who would 'not' get their sweaty money. Not the way of going about righting many wrongs.
Fine pay them their one time payment of reparations and then when they spend all their money and are broke they can not get foodstamps or and social welfare help
At this point if we even gave every slave 1,000,000 dollars and it was dispersed to the descendants it wouldn’t be much more than maybe 500-1000 dollars if even that and that’s if it was 1,000,000

Ok, where does the Left want to start apportioning the blame and appointing who has to pay who reparations? I assume they’re interested in all historic slavery, why wouldn’t they be? Should we do it chronologically?
So let’s get started with the descendants of the African Empires of the Mali, Wagadu, Sosso, Almoravids, Songhai, Kanem-Bornu, Hausa, Sokoto, Carthaginian, Jolof, Nok, Nri, Oyo, Benin, Kaabu, Aro, Bonoman, Ashanti, Kong, Bamana, Wassoulou, Kongo, Luba, Lunda, Mutapa, Zulu, Maravi, Rozvi, Kitara, Buganda, Etheopian, Ajuran, Harar, Egyptian, Aussa, Gomma, Kush, Hammadid, Almohad, Marinid, Saadi and Zirid (to name but a few) and make them take the knee for the invasions, resource plundering, genocides, slave taking and selling each other for thousands of years which will cover almost all black peoples alive today, to pay each other reparations.
Then let’s move on to the Arabs / Islamic slavers who started taking / buying these slaves from their fellow Africans in the 6th century (and are still buying them TODAY) and get them to pay them all reparations. We should probably add to this the Barbary Pirate (Islamic Berber raiding parties) that attacked coastal towns and villages all over Europe, including the British Isles and took over a million European slaves back to Africa - we’ll have some reparations for that please.
Then let’s hold the descendants of the Romans, Saxons, Vikings and Normans to account for enslaving the entire population of the British Isles for 1100 consecutive years. Then also the Austrians, Hungarians, Ottomans, Germans, Romanians, Japanese and Italians for the cost in blood and money that my ancestors paid in WWI & WWII to fight imperialist fascism, I would love some reparations for that.
Then once we’ve got all that done, we can finally turn to the descendants of the Portuguese, Spanish, French & English traders that bought them from the 15th & 16th centuries respectively.
But we also need to take account of the fact that Britain was the first country to abolish slavery in 1807 in law in 1833, thus making us one of the shortest lived nations to be involved in slavery in history as we were already late to the game compared to everybody else. What would the world of slavery look like today if Britain had not bothered to try and push the whole world to abolish it, as no one else was interested in doing so? It would probably just have carried on for centuries if WE hadn’t stopped it.
What about the fact we created a whole Royal Navy squadron (West Africa Squadron) to blockade Africa for over 50 years to prevent all the other slave taking nations / cultures from taking slaves from Africa, executing slavers on sight. The debt incurred by this cost was not paid off by the UK taxpayers until 2015, so does that count as reparations? Did anybody else do that?
How do they know I’m not suffering the consequences of my ancestors injustices by the way? Just because I’m white and live in the UK doesn’t mean I was related to anyone involved in slavery. I’m only 4 generations down the line from peasant farmers and manual workers in South East Munster, so I’m more likely a descendent of slavery than slave owning. I’m also only the first generation of my family to go to university, maybe if we hadn’t been kept down for centuries I could by now have been the king. Where’s my reparations for that?

@Carlena Cole Yeah, the families who didn’t experience slavery at all and have no real reason to be given money for it. I’m black and I have ancestors who were slaves, that doesn’t mean I’m entitled to any money. This just seems like black people guilting white people into giving them money.

They were giving free people land grants, literally giving land away, but we're not owed anything? I am descendant of slaves in Haiti and I think it's time that we get France to pay us our restitution for the 90 million gold franc they stole from us and reparation for slavery. Again... Actually, the 40 acres and a mule thing is a lie. They were promised 40 acres to farm with a rented mule. And that promise wasn't actually given by the government but was given by a union general if the captured then freed slaves would fight on his behalf. He actually didn't have the authority to make that promise.

By the way, if you're going to ask for reparations, why not go to the Holland government who started slavery in the America's? Or maybe even England because slavery started under British rule and of the 245 year history of slavery, the United States was only responsible for 89 years of that? Or just cut out the middleman and demand reparation money from all the West African countries who globalized slavery?
