    Just incase anyone's struggling with theirs.
    If you take the air valve off the end of the hose and put it back on the other way round with the longer end in the hose and the shorter end not in the hose it fit nicely in the lid and allows the air to flow beautifully,makes foam and doesnt suck anything back into itself , Been fighting with mine for months. Now its skims properly and is easy to adjust.

      It might even work better in a slightly bigger tank. At least consistency wise. If you have a larger bioload and are running it as explained in vid which is pretty much flat out and adjust for water height .you should get a pretty consistent skim .
      If you have it in the evo with just say 2 clowns and a small cuc ,getting a consistent skim is more difficult to achieve. Then you end up chasing the tuning

    My girlfriend and I are running this in conjunction with a cheap aquatech 20-40 on a 30 gallon tank and our water is noticeably cleaner with much better parameters.
    I had to play with mine a whole bunch moving the unit itself up and down in the water and adjusting the fine tuning knobs over the course of about 4-5 days
    There is a definite break in period you have to go through and a definite sweet spot you have to find. After about the third day the skimmer really began to build a foam head
    and the next morning it was about the third of the way full with dark tea colored gunk. I've been fine tuning it further to the point that the gunk is even darker and the collection cup doesn't fill up as fast because I don't want to risk an over flow.
    The suction cups came off the unit quite easily and I decided to use the hanger bracket by itself shimmed with a cork. Multiple times throughout the course of a day I noticed the skimmer became detached from the suction cups and I eventually decided to just take them off and adjust the hanger shimmed with a cork to get the right water level.

    HI I have one of these for my Fluval 13.5G tank. it appears to be custom made to fit in the first compartment, both due to the fin in the first compartment sliding into the slot on the skimmer, and also becuase it ONLY fits in without the suction cups...it slides in and can only sit at one level there.
    My question is that this seems to reduce the return flow rate of the tank, and is causing issues with the water level in the DT rising right up to the rim...any small bit of algae that may get trapped on the overflow get stuck there because the skimmer physically blocks larger elements from flowing through...
    I'm curious if anyone else has had a problem with this? It also seems super finicky to dial in at times, like it's just not creating flow within itself.
    I don't know if these are product issues, user errors, maintenance errors or what. I'm using an In Tank basket in compartment 2, but its just not keepign my tank very clean.
    If I put the intank basket in compartment one I'll achieve better mechanical filtration, but the skimmer isn't custom fit to go into compartment 2, and isn't guaranteed to always sit at the same level...and again it can't be used with the mounting bracket.
    Since this is the skimmer recommended for this tank I"m at a loss for how to best use it. The sponge that comes with the Fluval 13.5 is a nitrate factory and difficult to clean routinely as opposed too just replacing a square oof filter media in the in tank style basket.
    I appreciate any thoughts or other experiences.

    Where do you have the water level adjusted to on the Evo tank shown? You mentioned the air inlet all the way open but how about the water level position? Having trouble tuning mine.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 років тому

      Brian, start with the water level half way up the inlet grill. You can also adjust the actual skimmer body vertically within the inlet compartment. Once you have it adjusted make a small mark with a marker on the side of the glass out of sight somewhere and use that to help guide you in topping off the tank, a consistent water level is also important.

    So i just got this skimmer and followed the instructions but when i have the water level as low as i can get it with the dial and the air valve all the way open, the collection cup completely fills with water. Its in the tank to half way up the grill like suggested. Ay ideas on how to get it to stop doing that?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  5 років тому +1

      We recommend positioning the skimmer slightly higher up, a quarter of an inch might be sufficient. Regular top up due to water loss from evaporation is always beneficial and would be important when running most skimmers in smaller aquariums.

    I have my skimmer all installed in my Evo 60L tank (U.K. size). It’s still almost full of water to the lid, I have my air intake completely open, but do I need to turn the water intake dial clockwise or anti-clockwise to let less water in? (I know it’s needs to break in, but I want to make sure I’ve turned the dial the right way to start with!)

    • @fluval
      @fluval  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Hayley! If you remove the foam bubble trap, you'll be able to see the water level control valve mechanism and understand how rotating the dial affects water level! You can rotate the dial in both directions to achieve the same effect.

    Which way do you turn the control knob to increase or decrease the water level in the collection cup

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 років тому +1

      Observe the water level in the skimmer, it is sensitive to the control, when you are seeing the water level rise that means you are decreasing the output so water is backing up in the skimmer to raise the level.

      If you mean your aquarium has less volume than the maximum rated capacity on U3 packaging, no, it should not be a problem depending on the species of fish being kept, meaning take into consideration the water current some fish prefer or not.The U3 also features directional water output so directing the current appropriately is convenient.

    Anyone who is familiar with this skimmer ... which direction [of rotation] on the water valve control raises or lowers the water level in the skimmer?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  6 років тому +4

      Logan, the knob that controls water flow can be rotated in one direction to achieve both effects as it consist of a tube with a large slot and notch, as you turn the knob it either increases or decreases the output opening and as a result the skimmer level. The method of operation is to watch the neck of the skimmer and make slight adjustments until you reach the right density of skimmate, usually a dark fairly dense sludge. The density of skimmate does vary with the bio-load in the aquarium, if the bio-load is low, which it should be in an aquarium of the size you should be running a skimmer like this on, then a dark black to brown fluid is sufficient.

    I noticed a couple days ago that my zebra danio was struggling to swim and had a curve in its body. A few days before I had also noticed a swollen belly in the same fish but now it has gone but these symptoms made me think it was dropsy but when I looked at some picture the body is bent towards the side - not up and down like most of the fish. Does anyone know what it is or what I should do, the fish is now in a separate tank to my others.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 років тому

      Emma, looking at the fish from the surface downwards dropsy would also have you seeing scales that are protruding perpendicular to its' body, noted that you did not see that. Isolating the fish is the best thing to do, if it feeds and otherwise acts normally with not external signs of infection hopefully the issue resolves itself while watching to see if there are other symptoms that develop.

      Thank you! Is it connected to the tank (sump?) below it? Is there somewhere to learn more about that set-up?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  6 років тому +1

      Yes, in fact the sump is part of the tank below the reef on top of it, two tanks, one sump. Both therefore share the same large skimmer and benefit from the greater total overall water volume.

      What size is the lower tank? I'd love to duplicate a set-up like this, using the lower as a refugium, frag, and possibly seahorse tank. Is there a video or blog post/article where the specs of this tank/set-up can be found? Thank you so much for answering all my questions!

    • @fluval
      @fluval  6 років тому +1

      Unfortunately we do not have a specific video on the details of these two reef tanks. Both tanks are 125 US gallon tanks, the bottom sacrifices about 20% of its volume for a sump, so actual tank volume for tank livestock in that one is about 100 US gallons. Interesting idea to use the bottom as a refugium, thank you for sharing, it would work nicely to grow macro algaes and a number of other things as well. Take note we have one SP 6 return pump that we plumbed a T & valve into the output line, hence it would be possible to turn the flow down for the bottom aquarium.

      Hi David, for a 29 gallon tank we recommend our PS1 protein skimmer: fluvalaquatics.com/us/shop/product/ps1-protein-skimmer-up-to-45-us-gal-170-l

      Yes, the aquarium shown at the end of the video is the Evo 13.5! 👍

    My water level/bubble level within the skimmer doesn't look like anyone else's online. Nothing really is coming into the collection cup. Does it have to be broken in ?Its been less than an hour lol ( but assuming this video wasn't edited, and others, the bubbles are far below the cup no matter how much I turn the valve one way or another

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 років тому

      It is likely because your water level is not at the half way or slightly higher mark on your intake grill. Verify and bring it up a little.

    • @ouronoble7232
      @ouronoble7232 7 років тому

      It is in an Evo 13.5, my understanding is its supposed to fit in as is/should all be the right level

      Fluval Aquatics how do you get it to stop making your water cloudy ? Cause mine makes bubbles go in the tank is that normal for a new skimmer?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  Рік тому

      We don't recommend using the PS2 with the Evo 5, as the skimmer will take up a large portion of the water volume in the aquarium.

      It just reassured what I already knew, and was nice for the company to show you first hand. as far as recommended water level, starting with air inlet wide open, ect ect. A lot of this stuff I research myself, or learn from mistake. its just good to get backing from the people making/selling to you.

    fluval flex 57l can use?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  6 років тому

      Keith, the cut out in the canopy is for the purpose of installing the PS2, a specific skimmer body retention bracket is supplied with the PS2 for when it is installed within the Flex 15.

    Fluval never seem to solve many problems with their ( innovative) products, in fact they along with this presenter causes more than they solve, also this presenter never gives you options that actually work, it’s seems all geared up for you to constantly be paying out money never ending to Fluval for in some cases products that don’t work in the beginning.
    Canister filter media is a typical issue, they don’t even seem to know how to set the media up properly to get a full cycle, and what they propose you use is their products that are useless in ever trying to achieve you as a customers aquarium goals, ie long term success.
