Just discovered your channel Marlena -- what a great find for Christmas. Love your style. My wife Kim, who was in a renaissance festival group called the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) says for any fragile patterns you have -- you should trace them onto muslin fabric and put all the instructions (seam allowances) -- so you won't be afraid it will fall apart. Absolutely fanatical about patterns in this era, my aunt who was a true seamstress and tailor here in America sewed for clients with this type of pattern! She was creative and adjusted patterns to flatter her clients! She also made her own patterns! Thank you for sharing your work!
Beautiful dress! You might just need to do a full bust adjustment using the next size down to get the shoulders not to be falling off. Also do your mock up in a similar weight fabric to the one you plan to use for the finished garment. Loved watching your process! Thank you for sharing. ❤
I absolutely love this fabric. The dress is stunning on you! You look so elegant! I really hope that you had a lot of fun wearing it, it is awesome- some dresses are finicky with fitting when you need to make adjustments.
There isn't enough cup volume. That's why there are dents where the strap and cup area meet. I made a full comment elsewhere if you want to know why the cups are spilling over.

That fabric is choice was absolutely perfect for this dress! It came out so beautifully! ❤ For the pattern, you should definitely copy it onto a more sturdy paper before it tears more!

@@Marlenasewing I use something called tracing violence - its like sew in interfacing. Super sturdy but thin and flexible, pin it as much as you like and it doesn't tear. Just don't iron it.... Ask me how I know... You can also use it for fitting and adjusting because you can sew it. Neat stuff
I’m glad I stayed till the end 😅 but also, watching you try get out of that dress revived memories of me feeling trapped inside some of my own dresses 😂 believe me, in a hot climate when you’re sweating and can’t wait to get out of a fulsome dress, not being able to easily slip out of it is stressful!

If you are uncomfortable with the neckline maybe a gauzy, chiffony scarf or shawl of some sort could deal with that. I definitely agree with you on the skirt, though. It really works well.

That’s such a lovely fabric. It’s interesting that generally when you have a one-way design on the fabric it looks wrong if the wrong and tacky if you don’t cut all pattern pieces in the same direction. But the design is so unusual and graphic it looks intentional doing it on the skirt. It gives some liveliness to the look of the skirt., like bees moving around a hive. IDK if that was intentional or a happy accident. Either way, it works.
Oh, I love the idea of busy bees flying around my skirt!🤩 to be honest, I was so focused on minimising fabric usage that I completely forgot about the pattern😆🙈🙈 I'm lucky that the pattern was sort of forgiving!
I think you missed accounting for the seam allowance around the neckline when you determined it was too high. That said, it kinda gave 18th century vibes the way it turned out, which is still quite nice even if it wasn't the plan. All in all, LOVE IT!
I probably missed a marble or two when making that mockup😆😅 IDK how it happened. 🙈Uuuu, I like the idea of it being 2020s, doing 1950s, doing 1800s😅 thank you so much for your comment!🙏❤️
Very cute! Try taking apart your mock-up and using that for your pattern. You may also want to twaek your white ballance in editing, it looks destractingly orange. Your auto-focus also doesn't work well, so you may want to use manual focus with a F stop of 4.5 to 7, depending on how much you are moving, instead. 4.5 if you are static, 7 if you are moving a lot.
No pressure but i would love to have a summer dress like this, i know you are working an your vitch capsule but if you can work on putting up the pattern pretty please do ❤❤

@@Marlenasewing a bit of advice... fly don't drive... unless you enjoy taking your time... otherwise you'll spend a ton of time driving through texas just to get to where you want to be...
At 8:18 you can see that there is not enough volume in the cup for all the breast tissue. Its causing spillage. At 8::20 you can see the cup/strap area fold in on itself, folds in fabric like that mean there is not enough capacity and especially width inside the garment for your body. Your original mock up fit much better. Look up the meaning of "a busted can of biscuits"

Thank you so much! 💝 my camera ate the clip about the pleats 😅😭 but basically, instead of being pleated next to each other, one has to make a pleat on the left side of a side seam and then make another pleat over it from the right side of the pleat. Your dress looks beautiful! I’ve had similar problems in the past where the mock-up seemed to fit and then the final garment didn’t. 😢 I learned I had to start using mock up fabric of the same weight and same stretch (or no stretch) as the fashion fabric. You did a great job. Happy holidays. 🎉🎄

I absolutely love the fabric. You could let the bodice out a little and add a little lace across the top of the bust to make it more modest without making it look frumpy. Lots of potential to make it work. I know you are probably frustrated with it at the moment, but give a couple of weeks and take your time when altering it. Love, love, love 50's designs - I'm a mid-century gal.

Thank you so much! 💝 my camera ate the clip about the pleats 😅😭 but basically, instead of being pleated next to each other, one has to make a pleat on the left side of a side seam and then make another pleat over it from the right side of the pleat. Your dress looks beautiful! I’ve had similar problems in the past where the mock-up seemed to fit and then the final garment didn’t. 😢 I learned I had to start using mock up fabric of the same weight and same stretch (or no stretch) as the fashion fabric. You did a great job. Happy holidays. 🎉🎄

I absolutely love the fabric. You could let the bodice out a little and add a little lace across the top of the bust to make it more modest without making it look frumpy. Lots of potential to make it work. I know you are probably frustrated with it at the moment, but give a couple of weeks and take your time when altering it. Love, love, love 50's designs - I'm a mid-century gal.
