I do not know art, but I know what I like. I sometimes like the colors the artist chose. Sometimes, it is the style the subject is portrayed in. I sometimes see a painting, and I believe I see what the artist saw, and why they chose to capture it. Then sometimes, I see a portrait of a beautiful woman, and I imagine the love, appreciation, and talent it took to capture that onto a canvas, and to make it immortal. Keep painting for us. It beautifies the world, even for those who chose not to notice.
WOW! Amazing. When the grand daughter said we can ask the subject in person, I was gobsmacked. And there she was. Again, amazing. What a brilliant segment and living piece of history!
As I looked at the painting I noticed the young lady and thought " she looks like the subject...the nose, the jawline " and to then hear and see it was her Grandmother I thought amazing ! What a lovely Grandmother indeed ...great episode segment !
a first they talk to the antique its self, a slightly aged piece, but without price, very touching. The only time I've felt truly teary-eyed. poignant, and moving.
@T. de Goeij know what you basically said was shes still a ripe fresh piece of fruit?? But in fact shes covered in mould well passed her sell by date and ready for the bin... the old lady knows her best days are behind her and passes the only thing she can.. itl be you one day
@T. de Goeij because you said still is ?? Your still implying shes a looker? And then even tried to grab the amen, isnt she ?? Know is the answer to be honest. Difference between me and you, is i dont sprinkle everything in glitter and put amen on the end
I have a friend who is 104 and as sharp as a tack. Five years ago she was still weaving every afternoon, watering her garden and going out for coffee with her friends. 💖
I'd pay 10k pounds for the painting. She has what I call understated beauty and the artist captured that. The subject and the painting are both marvelous.
This has got to be one of my absolute top 5 favorite segments, ever, on Antiques Roadshow, anywhere in the world. I am elated I got to view this piece. The picture is breathtakingly beautiful. The gentleman host expertly and brilliantly gifted the mature lady with a lovely memory. She looked so overjoyed.
She was a stunningly beautiful young Lady!! Absolutely wonderful to see both the painting and subject together: and so beautifully interviewed!! Made my day. 👍
2:00 mom's left arm is a spot-on match to her mom's arm in the painting: long, slender, lithe. unintentionally graceful. a remarkable resemblance which echoes the image behind her and pulls us through time. one of my favorite roadshow moments :)
Excellent comment! Thank you for posting it!! ...that minute mark perfectly captures the painting and the daughter's arm... well done to the producer calling that camera shot...
Wow, stunning young model. We all suffer from the ravages of time, but she has endured majestically and it is lovely to see such an alert and focused centurion.
Many of the art experts on The Antiques Roadshow are so charming and affable. I love watching Fake or Fortune in which Philip Mould sleuths the authenticity of works of art. The sentimental value of this painting far exceeds the appraised value and it was so kind and gracious of Philip to acknowledge and honour the subject of the painting.
It made me laugh when the last said I can’t remember if it was a 21st or wedding present . I can’t remember what happened last week , let alone 80 years ago . My mum is sadly beginning to show all the signs of dementia , she doesn’t register seeing me a mere five mins ago , so I appreciate this lady’s good fortune at having a keen mind with a wit to match . A gift , to have three generations of the same family , all fully able to enjoy the experience . A delightful moment in Tv .
As a painter it brought tears! Ive painted for a long time and i am 45. I have people sending me pictures of their portraits i did 30 years ago!! Painting is a beautiful gift !!
@@louisericketts6738 lol arent we funny as women?? We dont see our beauty when we're young until years later. Recently saw a high school photo of mine. I was gobsmacked lol
@@louisericketts6738 rotfl. At least you have a picture to prove it (wink wink) if anyone doubts you. You'll be nostalgic for it in another 10 years lol😭
The BEST valuation I have seen, a genuine, caring host who just emulates the importance of this piece!. A truly remarkable painting which is the true definition of priceless.
"Yellow Girl" is an absolutely wonderful portrait. Thanks to this charming family for sharing it with us. I hope there are plans for putting it on exhibit, possibly in London, because it adds a lot to our appreciation of British art and artists, and of the lovely young woman, now a healthy 103, who sat for it.
This could be my favorite Antique roadshow video so far! A beautiful historical portrait & the ability to meet & hear from the subject of the portrait & find that she is as lovely a character as she is a beauty even though the potrait itself is 90 years old!!! I love her sense of humor about her long arms which are quite lovely & elegant looking in the portrait.
If she couldn’t remember whether the portrait was a gift for her 21st birthday or wedding, then she surely got some amazing gifts on both occasions! It’s a stunning portrait and she’s a remarkable lady, speaking clearly and with wit and humour in her 100s.
Amazing! My great grandmother lived to be 103. I miss her. I think I might have been her only great grandchild (out of about 30 great grandchildren) to go visit her in the nursing home on a regular basis. Toward the end of her life, I was the only person she recognized. We had a very special bond. I always admired her. It takes a lot of grit to raise 12 children during the depression into the early part of WW2.
A most glorious portrait of a very beautiful lady - Painted by a wonderful artist - Capturing and revealing an intensity of presence within Matilda - It is beautiful and one of the finest portraits I have ever seen 🙏
The British Antiques Roadshow has all the class, depth and feeling which is at a level that the US version fails to reach. The stories behind the pieces are what makes this show so watchable.
What a Beautiful Woman she was and now her Beauty shines through her soul..God Bless you Ma’am you are Wonderful..and thanks to the Gentlemen who gave her this heartwarming touch to make her feel so special!! This is the kind of stuff i want to see and hear..just awesome 👏🏼
She was a great beauty. Lovely painting, capturing a youthful woman in her prime, just astonishing. Love the family generation here. Thanks so very much.
Usually, paintings, however beautiful they may be, always have a certain detachment when the subject is a person from long ago. This wonderful lady closes that partition and literally brings the painting to life and reminds us, that however old a painting may be, that person was as real as we are today. Amazing!
wowowowowowowowowow love this video, sometime I feel very down, and Im 48..... and feel tired about my life and how many things had happen in 48 years but... now.. after watching this video, makes me feel much better, longevity is in my genes, my grandparents die in their 90's, my Dad 75 alive and well my Mom 70 alive and well, so I better shape up and be positive because if GOD allows I still have a looong way to go... like this beautiful lady 103! God Bless her
It looks like there's more writing under the name of the artist. The painting is truly stunning though. I loved the lady it was of and hearing her story. It's nice to be able to see history and still hear about it from the person it's of. Kinda like the scene of the lady in Titanic. (The movie) draws you in. You feel like a little kid, laying on the floor looking up and listening to a story from your grandma. Loved this!

Someone should paint a picture of the grand-daughter. She is equally stunning.
There is a strong family resemblance between the grand daughter presenting the painting and the grand mother portrayed in the painting. Quite beautiful.
She is absolutely stunning... Both the painting & her grandmother..they are both gorgeous... Yellow colors is very wired choice but the blush made it all... Well that's is priceless painting
Beautiful painting, imagine being able to remember sitting for the sessions, going through a war and all the different fashions throughout time, quite something.
The yellow girl is absolutely stunning and the painting is beautiful. Hang on to that painting. . .it’s an heirloom, one you should keep in your family.
What a wonderful story And I was stunned twice. Once by the fact that the lovely subject was actually able to be there and give her stories about it in person, but then a double whammy by declaring herself to be 103 years old. So lucid and full of life and I'd have said eighty three tops. Truly wonderful A credit to her and her family And good on the host for making her feel so welcome and honoured. Well done BBC.

And kudos to the host who made her feel very special.

To be that sharp at the age of 103... what a gift!
I don't know. I rather hope I'm completely senile by the age of 60 so that I won't have to look at myself.
at any age you will feel the same in the mind, so i do not think you want that :)
I hope to be 103, but it is a burden. More funerals of loved ones
Stunning!!
My thoughts exactly.

Scott Wheeler great observation thanks for sharing, you're dead right the arms are uncannily similar
I saw that too; and I think the director had a very keen eye because it was perfectly staged that way.
Good catch, I would add, that she herself had her right arm in the same position as in the paint.
