The GOAT is back. I saw this tape yesterday and thought it was one of the ones you'd covered already, but I could definitely tell there were palette issues with the HUD, electric shield not working which you had in the last one, among most of what you've covered, but I didn't realize how many of the small things I missed as I watch along. Honestly the blue top was better staying lol. I HATE that thing, and have never known how to control it properly. Having to go off screen and come back for it to load again is annoying an unnecessary, so they should've kept the top on the ground after jumping off IMO
Yeah, I sort-of did cover it, since I made videos on two of the magazines that took screenshots from this particular tape. I had no idea that the tape itself would drop only weeks later! But yeah, seeing the whole thing in motion reveals some more details about this build. I agree with you about the top. Having it stay around after jumping off would've been nice. You'll see why they changed it if you try flying into ceiling spikes in the prototype though.
Fun fact: Sonic not going into his jump animation when jumping off the hook is how it works in Sonic 2 as well (with Mystic Cave's vines and Wing Fortress' handlebars). Amusingly he _is_ in his jump state internally, they just forgot to change the animation.
The amount of new screenshots and a newly discovered VHS tape makes me think that soon a new Sonic 3 prototype will surface, built later after the 1103 one. Seems like in these prototypes, green HUD and Tails' missing tails in the special stages are the main thing to see. ;)
It's amazing that Sonic 3 has so many mysteries behind its development, I thought all of the mysteries behind Sonic 3's development were solved by now.
It’s because his videos are simply straight to the point just like old school UA-cam. There’s no padding or unnecessary commentary to reach the 10 minute mark for maximum ad revenue like most people do these days.
I notice the score resets in some of levels in this vhs footage, so it could be possible that save feature still not implemented yet so it take u level select like 1103 build
4:32 The Multiplayer Level Order was finalized by that point, but was still in it's prototype phase because the HUD was there like you said. In the 1103 Prototype, Desert Palace and Chrome Gadget's positions were swapped.
@Zecolarii they havent been released tho (i dont count 1120 and EEPROM protos, cos they are just the final builds, and we're looking for pre-final builds. i cant count hoaxes either cos theyre from the community)
I seem to have realized something, where did that icecap zone build without the snowflake effects come from?? Where are the 1103 huds too?? we should do a sonic 3 timeline! Some screenshots have different builds, even before this vhs like that screenshot of the icecap zone without the snowflake effect :v
@@SilverSonic1992 in the sales promotion build, there are snowflakes during the mini boss in the footage, while in that unknown ice cap screenshot where Eggman is who had the old huds! there are no snowflakes falling in the 2nd act of the boss, I have a theory that it could be an earlier build but after 1103

It could be from this exact prototype or one that is similar.

That's only true of the crane hooks in Act 2, which are a separate object.
