Going today to buy an olp mm2 4 string from a guy around the way . $200 and it comes with a tweed hardshell case. I can't wait to get my hands on it! Always been a big fan of EB and MM stuff just never thought I'd be able to come close to affording them. Bringo!
Sorry about the late, late, late, late response. If you got the "OLP" . I hope it makes you play more and make you happy. Some instruments,...just have that thing about them. I don't know,...but I know. Lol!
Off wikipedia OLP Guitars was a guitar building company that marketed licensed replicas of famous models by other makers. The company's name stands for "Officially Licensed Product". OLP worked with Music Man and other companies. OLP was a subsidiary of Hanser Holdings International The instruments were manufactured in China, with good quality control, and higher quality electronics and hardware sourced from Korea, intending to make desirable instruments available at an affordable price. The licensed OLP versions of the Ernie Ball Music Man four- and five-string basses were quite popular. The OLP MM1FR model is a version of the Music Man Eddie Van Halen model. Versions of Los Angeles luthier Stephen McSwain's artistic guitars [the Tin Top/Machine and Anarchy models] were produced. Also offered were a John Petrucci OLP guitar and an Orange County Choppers model, as well as a Tony Levin Signature MM StingRay model. The disappearance of Hanser Holdings International's OLP guitar line was prior to Music Man's working with Praxis Musical on the "Sterling by Music Man" line, which began in 2009.
merqury5,...I'm right there with you. You are so correct. You're preaching to the choir. Lol! Gotcha on this. I totally understand and know this info is so true. Thanks bruddah. : D
I found one at a pawnshop for $125 , I ended up getting it for $100. I put it on layaway as I look for new cymbals because I play drums as well but I didn't want to pass up that deal. It feels really good in the hands weight wise and the neck, it's all black with a maple neck, I'm thinking of glittering up the pick guard to give it some life in the looks department 😉. I have a P-Bass, Jazz, and PJ and the Stingray was next on the list, I was looking at another Sterling SUB because I had one and sold it like a dummy, the SUBS are going for $300 used no a day's ( i paid $150 for my first one). The OLP is bigger than the SUBS but it feels really good and I can't wait to get it out and play it because all the demos I've heard sound really good and I think they all have the stock pick up as well
I know exactly what you're talking about. I have a Squier Precision that's modified. A bassline mm pickup in bridge position and p bass neck position. Dig this. I have an "IBANEZ" TMB100 bass preamp in it. OMG! I'll make a video soon with that one. The bass is white with an SX 5 string neck due to the original neck was bad.
I mean... I found a 4 string SUB in a store for $400, but I already have a Marcus Miller J Bass! I decided to tape my OLP back together instead of thinking about buying the SUB.
Just picked up an OLP with a h/sh case for $125. Plays like dream. Bought it for an alternate tuning for a few songs but it might get promoted to a main user.
Yes! Now a days, these "COST EFFECTIVE" product are being made better than some "OEM" product. "TECHNOLOGY" It's like a 57' strat up against a "TOM ANDERSON " strat. T. Anderson will blow the 57' strat away. So that "OLP" is the new "HOTNESS!!!" You know what I'm talkin' 'bout! You know!!! Lol!
Just bought a a OLP MM2 5 string for 100 dollars.. needs some TLC but pumped too get it up too playing.. needs a nut and a tuning key.. otherwise great shape!
With those hands you could make a stick and a string sound good. The 2nd hand OLPs are the best value for money I know of. I think OLP was a freak thing coming too close to the original. Not the same but close.
Bro keedy,...I highly appreciate you bruh! Such kind words. I'm just having fun at my old age. Practice make an individual more prepared, that's all. Practice, practice, practice. That's what I say. : D
I bought my OLP MM3 (5 String) for $249 plus tax back in 2002. The input jack broke within 4 months of having it, but despite it having a muddy Low B it remains my only 5 string! Why did they release a Passive Stingray that costs less than a tenth of the Price!? Names sell, but who's buying?
Still,...that's not a bad bass at all. That bass has got to have the settled wood in it now. The tone has got to be a better now. They bought out a passive one to compete. It's all about the money,...bossman.
I ised to have an olp 12 or 13 year ago and somebody stolen my bass and yesterday I bought an olp in reverb web page the same model I used to have and really is a very very good bass
That passive bass is smokin!

Man That OLP is a beast. I think I may try one out.
Sorry about the late, late, late response. If you're still around. Go for if you haven't already. Lol@
WOW, you blew me away! I've got that identical OLP bass and NOW I know she had do! Appreciated the schooling! Happy New Year!
Ah, thanks Sir Russ. Olp's are no sleepers. They do a great job at getting you that "STINGRAY" tone! You can't loose with either one.
The OLP is passive? WOW! It seems to have the bite, punch, and snap of an active bass!!! Very impressive! HMMM....
Oh yeah! That's a shocker! Olp,...sound closer to a stingray.
@@11coopbasscooper55 For real!!!
My OLP is not passive

The Sub has a larger pickguard and the pickup location looks different.

Olp sounds more like a musicman
Kurt Henry,...yup! I think what we are all hearing is the old school sound from the stingray from back in the day. ☺
11coopbass Cooper yes sir alot of people perfer this bass for its sound and price
Hell yeah! Git it!!
Is that Mint Sterling a short scale? It looks like my Sterling by MusicMan Stingray Short Scale.

Been my experience that the tone and grade get cleaner with the price. Simple y'all! Lol!
Olp was cheaper. Sounds more closer to a stingray more than the "STERLING".
OLP HANDS DOWN
I'll take the OLP
JR,...oh snap! JR,...you sound like me, boss! OLP to the max!
Great choice. Olp's are no sleepers. Bassist's should have one in their collection of basses if any. (smiles).
The OLP has a smaller body.
OLP is nice!
Never heard of OLP
Oh ok. They're tight though. Sound closer to a real bass.
Its title means, "Original Licensed Product" from Ernie Ball, I just picked up a OLP MM3 5 string Bass, Love it!! Be safe!!
Hi, is OLP heavy bass?
No,...its not heavy at all. I guess the normal weight of a "COST EFFECTIVE" chinese bass. Lol!.
