I'm ordering one as soon as my RMA clears from bigscreen vr and my refund hits my account. I should've went with my gut feeling about the bigscreen. Yes its tiny but everything else is horrible. The glare is unbearable and honestly my G2 looked better with a bigger sweet spot. Stay away from bigscreen, with the pimax crystal light on the market, the bigscreen is now going to slowly die.
A lot of folks here, like myself, have a G2 and with Microsoft support ending soon, they'll be looking for replacement/upgrade options. Can you do a video comparing both (including pros/cons/any issues with Pimax Light etc) so that we can be better informed? It's looking likely this Light model would be the 'go-to' for us, just need some more of a comparison. We also have the option of preventing that Windows update and keeping the use of the G2 (e.g. group policy edit).
This is your upgrade. Better display,better lenses, better, same audio, good comfort...but I will do this video for you.

I believe this is the ONLY G2 replacement there is. Everything else feels like I'm spending too much money for almost the same thing.
People who don't have a G2 don't understand how good and underrated it is.
I've got mine on order - tired of the compression that happens in sim racing with the Quest 3. I can't see the road in the distance and when driving 120 mph on a dirt road, that's very important! Can't wait - and hopefully I don't have to wait much longer. It's been a month since my order so hopefully it comes on the earlier side at six weeks. 🤞

Great video. I like the fact that you pointed that VR with such a good visual quality can give us that great relax moments. I think that games like MFS or Euro/American Track Simulator are not just a games, they are experiences, especially in VR.

I had a preorder and have been invited by Pimax to finalize the order. What's made me hesitate is the fact that the Crystal Light lacks quality pass-through, meaning that it's incompatible with programs like Color Panel and SimXR that allow one to see his flight Sim controllers in the VR headset. It leaves me in a quandary about Crystal Light vs. Quest 3. If it had hi-res color pass-through cameras, the Crystal Light would be the clear choice . . . but it does not.
@@adrenalinejunkie3828 I know, I know, darn it. But the faceplate, by itself, wouldn't be enough because the available apps require Virtual Desktop, as well. My best current solution is to buy the Quest 3 now and upgrade to a Crystal Light if Pimax ever gives it hi-res color pass-through and incorporates something like Virtual Desktop's chroma filters. What's held me back from VR for 3 years is that it didn't allow easy interaction with controllers. Now that it's possible, I'm denied it in the first affordable ultra-high-res headset. Feels like the developers are out to get me.

I notice when you move your head it’s blurry, is this just on UA-cam or do you see that in the VR headset? I’m new to VR and looking where to invest. Currently I’m on Xbox x. So would need to go PC
It's just in the recording. It's not what you see in the headset.

@@mixedrealityTV Have you tried VTOL VR ? It is a very low poly combat flight simulator, but the gameplay is awesome. Else perhaps any of low poly "VR classics" games could be interesting : Beat Saber, Superhot, etc. I think the 120 Hz refresh rate is as important as resolution, especially for people having motion sickness issue.
So dark scenes look great, but how about bright scenes? Does this get brighter than say Quest 3?
This can become very bright. Yes, for sure Quest 3 levels.
It is truly incredible that a small company from China, that started with a Kickstarter campaign, is now nailing PC VR ....while Meta did not, despite spending over 90 Billions on VR.
Wtf are you blabbling about? Quest platform is easily the best bang for the buck device in general ever and people actually like it. It is easily the best standalone vr but I still will buy pcvr headset when both serve different purposes
I don't think Meta marketed any of its headsets as PCVR. Though they do a great job at it. I have the Q2 and the Q3. I tried the pimax Crystal, and returned it after a week, because I found that despite the lower resolution. The Q3 was higher quality in every other aspect and experience. I couldn't accept paying 1700$ for the crystal having so many issues with it, and having to spend 10-20 mins trying to connect it and being recognized by my PC, every time!. Only to have tracking issues with the controllers. Now the crystal light, I think might be the better option, though I might recommend people forego the controller option and buy higher quality 3rd party controllers. Though that also means you might need lighthouses. Which both add to the nicer price for the Crystal Light.
@@toututu2993 My point is about PC VR.... Do you even fathom what 90 Billions can accomplish ? Meta should own absolutely everything even remotely connected to VR. But it let PC VR market down. Before Carmack left the company he noted "he was sick to his stomach to see so much money spent"
@@gomini3707 PCVR was never Meta's intended audience...even to this day they are more for the social aspect of VR.
@@lolzlolz69 I beg to differ. For many years, PC VR was in Meta's focus. That's why they bought Oculus for 3Billions to start with.
New sub here - I thought I had done that a while ago and just noticed I wasn't! I have been watching your videos for a while and I have to say thank you for spending so much time going over this headset. I purchased mine back on June 20th after watching you and VooDooDE get so excited about it. I bought a Quest 3 to replace my old Oculus Rift S last fall and have been loving it, but since then I also took up sim racing and it's just not holding up there. The compression and thus the long-distance views are really muddy, and it actually bothers my eyes trying to focus on a dirt track that is all pixelated and blurry. I did worry about the comfort of the Pimax Crystal Light as it just looks insanely bulky and cumbersome. But you have put those concerns to rest, and I can't wait to put on my new Crystal Light. Hopefully sooner than later - I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!

Why do you do the Tokyo experience flight rather than just taking off from Tokyo? All those markers would really annoy me!
I only wish they got rid of the "ultrawide" form factor... There is no way this headset needs the same width as the 8kx. I'm reluctant to increase my head inertia too much over the G2.

I'm currently running a Q3 with 'SimXR' and it is a game changer for flight simmers. For my next headset, Obviously better clarity would be good, but am happy to wait to see who can get MR working right (including PIMAX).

Yes, but even with your card you could enjoy this. Just bring down resolution a bit.
it's probably not the gpu that's the problem, it's the processor, look at the chart.

@@MPSB12 Even if you had the most powerful processor, it wouldn't mean that it would have to be enough as it is with GPU. If you want to buy Pimax, buy it and you will be able to check for yourself whether it is worth investing in a GPU. I think it will be better than on g2, even if you don't use the full potential of pimax, you will buy the gpu when the opportunity arises. I wouldn't rush into the RTX 5xxx either and wait to see if there will be any problems with it, and it will last for 6 months +.

I'm flying on a PA28 Cadet, and I bought a PA28 161 from Just For Flight who is a study aircraft with more or less the same specification than my real plane.
The speed to rotate is the same, the speed during the initial climb is the same, and the speed for the down wind is the same I put my engine at 2000RPM and the speed is 80kt with 1 flaps like the real one.
The only difference is for the landing the speed is too high than the real aircraft.
It's hard to get a stall with the PA28 on MFS2020.
But when you do engine failure exercices, the way is the same than real life. And the behaviour of the PA28 from Just For Flight is nearest that the one I'm piloting in real life.
And because I always used FSX, X-plane and MSFS2020 like reality, I was able to pilote the plane more easier than some one who didn't use simulation.
Now I'm preparing my navigation and I test it in the simulator. My airport on MFS2020 is accurate at 95% of the real one.

If you follows the real rules, it will be faster to understand the process. Regarding to me I have a plane on MSFS2020 with more or less the same characteristics than the one I fly with. It's important to do trainings
Glad pimax have seen sense and made the right moves with the crystal. As a result I will probably be getting one this year. My one suggestion for pimax would be to just increase the dimming zones. If they could get dimming zones into the thousands instead of hundreds, no real need for OLED and the module switch
Unfortunately dimming zones are fixed and they cannot easily get more. Next headset will get more.
I would like to know if it is possible, in one way or another, to use the Pimax Crystal Light with Shadow PC? Is it technically possible given that the headset is wired? Or is it necessary to use a local PC for the connection part and Shadow for the processing power?
It's not possible as far as I know.
Thank you for the review and feedback. I have the Varjo Aero, but it has been disappointing with the red shift and terrible binocular overlap. My Crystal Light should be shipping any day.

Hi Sebastian. I noticed you had both OpenXR and SteamVR running (the small yellow FPS counter and FPSVR (SteamVR only) running). To get better performance, there must be a way to not have to use SteamVR in MSFS with the Crystal Light. MSFS performs better in OpenXR only.

Yes you can turn it off. There is Pimax XR that you can use instead, no problem.

If you had to rank it relatively to quest 3 in flight simulator, what is the ranking?

Yes, this looks a lot better. But I also love the Quest 3.
Ok, it is a fantastic headset, but please don't tell people it has better lenses or bigger FOV than the original Crystal because that is simply not true. They are the same lenses, Pimax said it. The only reason you could be getting a better picture is because you exchanged the lenses many times and these unit is brand new. Moreover, I think that this headset deserves a talk about the facial interface and focal distance, because there are many users who have a bad experience with this so wide facial and also as soon as you go more far from the lenses, you get better image also.

binocular overlap is not mention enough and as you say it is so important. I love my pico4 because of it, do you think crystal light's binocular overlap is much worst than the pico's?
Hi! Pico 4 user here. I tested the Pimax Crystal Light at the Pimax roadshow a few days ago, and the binocular overlap on the Crystal Light is a bit worse then the Pico 4. Not as bad as the Meta Quest 3 though. The clarity and resolution are awesome, so it's an upgrade for sure. But unfortunately you will need to get used to the visible black bars in the middle.
It's not much worse than Pico 4. But it's much clearer. It's a winner!

Based on the FPS that is showing there should be a lot of juddering since it's not synced to the refresh rate. Try getting an fps that is half the refresh and lock it there (eg 45fps at 90hz)
Yes you are right.
you can always turn on smoothing and not necessarily half refreshment. Pimax has a choice of 1/2 and 1/3, so 40/120, I have another Pimax model, but I have the impression that it works a little better than before.
@@666Azmodan666 yeah but if you hate motion reprojection like me, due to the artifacts, thats not an option. I've tried the MR of oculus, G2, Pico 4 and Aero and they all suck imo. I much prefer 45fps locked

I have experienced this product and this VR is the worst trash VR product after Apple Vision Pro.

Sadly its Bradley also hated the Crystal because of the distortion sweetspot. The Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro don't have that problem. But at least this channel mentioned it in the review. Most channels don't.

Every high end VR simmer now has a 4090..... so probably not amazing performance. Even 4090 is still not enough
I do believe you will have a very good experience with the 3080 TI. Just scale down the settings SOMEWHAT, and you'll be just fine I think 🙂
@@jamiesalmonsculpture8599 Yes, the 4090 is enough. Been using the 4090 and the Pimax Crystal for 10 months now, and using half refresh rate I never dip below 45 fps on ultra/high settings, regardless of where in the world.
It all depends on the games you play. Some games have better optimization. There is a video out by pimax showing an RTX3060 working, but you will have to adjust the settings.
I got lucky to find someone willing to take my RTX3090 card and $900 cash for their 4090 card. They said the card was overkill for what they were using it for. I was going to hold out until the 5090 card dropped before I upgraded, but I figured for $900 out of pocket, I would get it. I got the 4090 card just for the Pimax Crystal Light headset...☺️👍
You do not _need_ a more powerful GPU to run these high resolution headsets. No matter what GPU you currently have, just run it at whatever rendering resolution it can handle. Even if you didn't change the rendering resolution from what you're running on your current headset, the better lenses and higher resolution panels will give you higher clarity and an overall better display than your current headset without changing the GPU.
Of course, a better GPU will let you drive rendering resolution higher and look even better. But my point is you don't have to. The idea that a high resolution headset could somehow be worse or a waste if you don't also upgrade your GPU is a myth.
