I still absolutely love this engine so much and wish they wouldn't scrap it, though I guess I get why they would. (At least from what I have heard as to why they may do that)
It's really unlikely that will happen. Ishin is only using Unreal to backport the Y5-YK1 engine, the other games announced seem to be purely Dragon Engine titles.
There's nothing the Dragon Engine can do that Unreal 5 can't. And a lot UE 5 can do much better. The only reason RGG Studio would persist with an in-house engine at this point is if Sega preferred to make a single large investment in an inferior option upfront just so they don't have to pay licensing fees to Epic Games. Which at this point doesn't scale well with super high budget games. In essence, the aforementioned large investment has only gotten larger and licensing fees have become smaller and smaller as a portion of the total budget.
but it isn't fluid, in certain aspects. So if you value jokes over the gameplay, hell its the best engine in any game ever. If you want good fights, you'll still get them, but now your fist will bounce off a blocks and other stuff like that
Yeah, Dragon Engine can made some fights feel like dumb slap fights and the amount of weird things that can happen to you or get you stuck on can be frustrating. But on the other hand, it's really funny.
Well even if they switch that doesn't mean they'll do away with physichs. Ishin didn't have them because it's basically a straight port to unreal. No changes to the environment, physichs, etc.
@@JosephJoeseph yeah it felt like the old PS3 games in both the good and bad ways but I didn't mind tbh, if they bring the dragon physics back for the other titles I'll be content, they seem competent
@@EntermateStar Well the bad ways might partially just be the remake's fault. Fans of the original really hate it because the rebalancing of the styles made brawler worthless, the trooper cards mess with the game's balancing even if you disable them and almost all the bosses have constant superarmor making comboing them impossible. It's also supposedly more grindy. I played neither, there's supposedly an unofficial english patch coming out for the original and I'm waiting on that (thanks Yakuza community for preserving these fantastic games RGG doesn't give a shit about preserving) so I can't personally comment but almost every original Ishin fan I encountered said the combat was completely ruined, so woohoo

As someone who's playing all Yakuza games on Steam include JE and LJ(Beside KF,Still collect some money for that),I can confirmed DE can be both blessed but also cursed at the same times. Can't believe from engine that got complaint about making games with worst combat like 6 come for a long way and become engine that create game with best combat like Lost Judgment. And I can confirmed messing around in Dragon Engine games,Especially,Lost Judgment was extremely fun lmao. If you got pc that can handle it or know some good tweaks,Ofc.
Tiger is for Power and Single Target damage. I use it to take out a single enemy quickly and for big damage with charge attacks. The hidden art also increases your damage after landing a charged finishing blow. Dragon's Crushing Fist is Lost Judgment's Tiger Drop and it's pretty good since you can also use it on Mortal Attacks. I mainly use it for the launcher it has on I think its first finishing blow for aerial combos. The charged attacks in EX boost (when holding down Triangle on DualShock), deal a lot of damage and are actually pretty good at dealing with multiple enemies. The EX finisher for landing 4 Triangle attacks and when an enemy has Agony (from say, Snake) are also hard hitters. Snake is for enemies with weapons (can disarm or do EX actions) and defense/crowd control. Snake is the only style that can block from all directions (iirc), letting you parry enemies (including bosses) even if they're behind you or have a weapon (there are a few exceptions). So, if an enemy is about to attack from behind, you can swap to Snake to parry and get free hits in. The parry is also good at setting up a Flux Fissure from Tiger or making an enemy bounce off a wall for Boxer's EX action. Snake's charged finishers also inflict Agony, which makes it harder for enemies and bosses to dodge so it's good for evasive enemies and setting up Boxer's EX action for Agony. It also makes grabbing bosses easier since even if they break free from it, you can grab them again and it'll last long enough to do an EX action. The hidden art for Snake makes you immune to knockdown on a successful parry. The quickstep attack can also apply stun if used a couple times which opens up Tiger's EX action too. Crane is great for dealing with multiple enemies and being able to launch them into the air by having the most options for it (1st finishing blow, 4th, Crane Counter, and pressing Triangle during the jump). The finishing blow EX during EX Boost and the jump EX action is good for a single enemy or multiple. Wall Jump EX action is also great for multiple enemies. Even if Crane isn't used at all, I still recommend swapping to it to activate its hidden art since it increases your attack speed (which can apply to all styles with the upgrade) and isn't difficult to activate either since the timing for dodging is forgiving. Boxer I find benefits the most from other styles and supports them well too. It's kind of a mix between Snake and Tiger with the counters/evasive options it has alongside the quick attack speed. The hidden art increases your EX gauge charge on a successful dodge or counter-attack iirc. The lack of EX actions specific to Boxer (being 2 I think) and the reliance on other styles to set them up makes Boxer to me more of a support/utility style. The uppercut is a great launching tool and EX Boost Triangle attacks and normal strings are good for sustained damage.
