I just read about the changes of this revival and yet it wasn't greatly received yet it's amazing how much joy the people have for it. I enjoy the show as we get Someone in a Tree which is has the best of all Sondheim's melodies in one song
IMO the venue of Studio 54 was really the issue as it was small, cramped, small stage and small orchestra. We were seated at cabaret tables. This may have been enjoyable for some, but having seen PO done in large venues with large orchestras (London, NYC, Philadelphia and Boston) was more appealing. Again, this is my opinion only.
It's neat seeing Alvin doing "Chrysanthemum Tea" again, now that he is old enough to be the Shougun's mother's age. This is truly HIS song.
