Listening to this wonderful masterpiece in 2024! So underrated, but will never get old for the admirers of beautifully and perfectly crafted music. Such a joy to listen and move with it!
This song always reminds me of sitting on the steps of my high school while listening to the Circus album on my Walkman with headphones on, wallowing in my dream locking out the rest of the world.... miss those innocent times.
Push me shove me ship of fools and the circus my favourites. I have a tattoo on my arm with the lyrics putting back the pieces of a broken dream from the circus
I would urge anybody who has not already got it to get Erasure's new album 'The Neon' it is amazing and sounds very very 80's. You will not be disappointed I promise you.
This song was just so different to anything else in the charts at that time. It really stood out amongst the happy pop, and so began my obsession :-)))
@@Hirnlego999 That's true, Vince was *the* founder (if we had to pick one) and original driving force behind Depeche Mode. He was the only one who really took the band seriously at first, and he was the one who brought everyone together. And he wrote nearly all of their songs at the time, too. He was also the one who called up Alison Moyet to form Yazoo, and wrote their first song "Only You". And he auditioned about 40 singers, choosing Andy Bell, to form Erasure. How many people have put together and founded *three* highly successful, noteworthy bands, as well as played a critical role in their success as a member? Probably not that many.
They used to Laugh at me back i 1987 when I said? "Father worked in industry Now the work has moved on And the factory's gone See them sell your history Where once you were strong And you used to belong There was once a future For a working man There was once a lifetime For a skilful hand yesterday"
OMG im sure this was the pebble mill at one studio!! crap if im right then im too old to know this but these guys were my total fantasy in my youth and i love them still xx
Actually, Vince didn't like the DX7 very much. Among digital synths, he preferred the Casio CZ-101, which was even cheaper and, in his and my opinions, easier to use and sounded better. He also made extensive use of the Sequential Circuits Prophet VS on some of Erasure's albums, along with the PPG Wave 2.2, Roland D-550 (rack-mounted D-50), and Waldorf Microwave XT (rack-mounted Microwave). Of course, the vast majority of his synths are vintage analogue. In the case of this video, he probably just brought it as a prop to mime on, since nearly everything on TV was mimed and lip-synced back then. Not to denigrate the DX7, which was high quality yet affordable, but it was perhaps a little too popular, making a lot of records sound similar, and few artists really mastered how to use it. Vince knew and liked analogue synths the best, and while they're all unique, they more or less work similarly to each other, while the DX7 required musicians to learn a whole new way of generating sound that perhaps wasn't quite as direct and intuitive for them. I guess Vince didn't consider it worth his time to really learn FM synthesis just to make the most out of one synth, when he had plenty of others in his arsenal to choose from.
