    Correction 1:00 the roman symbol should be V not I of course. To err is human! Which is good as someone recently commented saying that Jazzduets was AI! I can assure you no.

      Hi! I think there's another little mistake in the note of bar 13 in 3rd reharm: the Em7b5 should be Bb7 sub, not C7

    • @JazzDuets
      @JazzDuets  6 років тому +4

      The E-7b5 is substituting for the C7 as it commonly does.
      The step by step tutorial goes in to this in detail.

    • @Pseudify
      @Pseudify 9 місяців тому +1

      @@Johncowk. I don’t know if this is what you are asking but here’s some of my own crude analysis. I think a major aspect that makes this line so emotional is first of all that high vocal F which runs throughout that chord change and then leads naturally to the F11. That F is the major 7 of the G flat, the major third of the D flat and the major 6 of the A flat terminating in the root of the F11.
      And some technical notes, that G flat major 7 appears to be (?) a tritone sub of the preceding C dominant (although tritone subs are most often just dominant chords themselves). And then from, there you essentially just have an ascending line of 5ths (descending 4ths) to the D flat and A flat. The chord progression itself is not too unusual. But the context of the key signature in which it is happening might be unusual. I think the big attraction here is that vocal F and how it fits within the structure of those chords which creates some interesting dissonances and resolutions.
      I’m not an expert at theory so would be interested to hear other thoughts and corrections on my analysis.

    Great video. I never know which.way I will play Amazing. Grace. .I need to start writing them down. Do the work ..see.how many.tritomes..sevondary.dominant. Here is one way I might do. F to b7.chord Eb I G then Bb.chord to G7b9.( walk up from G to Ab base a octave lower. ..btw the G7b9 is very easy to make its the Ab dim7..
    Just.a.bunch of minor 3rds. (Ab B D F). Breaking this down G7b9 is made by playing a G7 then raise the G to Ab.. (Ab B D F)..Thats A start ..we.options to go to Sec. Dominants. The.Eb above can be made as. a beautiful chord...F9 #5.. (A C# Eb G) Its played.on the How...then a good chord is a.choice between the. 4 chord Bb or G min 7...I wasn't planning to write this much..spent all.day putting shingles on my house. Needed a break. Oh the vocals were excellent.
    (Ab B D F)

    You say 9th or 2nd based on whether the 7th is added, not what octave it's in - our system is tertian harmony and a 9th is an extension from root, 3rd 5th 7th and then 9th... Not trying to be difficult, I just find all of this so interesting.
