Virtue Streams nah he should have gapped the rings and he expected too much out of gen 3 small block. Could have made pretty close to the power he had safely
if they gapped rings and had oil pressure and checked pushrod length they would have been fine. you forget the sloppy mechanics guys be building haphazardly and still get decent reliability.

Know what? I know *nothing* about engines, but this channel rocks. Oh man! the cam gasket hit the sprocket rocker and the doobie rim fell into the rim bowl head, and the faucet cam brocket burned out the bore cam. Love it! It's all Chinese to me, but awesome!
Dad said as soon as you pulled the first head - your timing chain broke. All that damage is the result. A broken timing chain caused the pistons to smash into the the valves that were no longer closing, and the pushrods were driven through the lifters.
So shocked.... you knew this would happen when you chose to ignore ring gap. I heard you say it a few videos ago. I wish i got to blow stuff up for fun
The salvage yards must like you guys! I wish I had your engine budget. If you put that turbo back on, you will probably get a little less than 200,000 out of the new engine. The way you guys drive, about 199,998 miles less!! What fun.

The cast pistons and the stock connecting rods are the weak spots on LS engines. Lean out once under boost and there will not be a second time. Even worse is all that shrapnel is all through the turbo now.
Yukons only have 5.3s Denali is the only trim that has the L92 6.2. And the denali for some reason wasn't rated at 403 like the escalade and the trucks that have them it's rated at like 380 I believe. I had an 08 Vortec Max Silverado with the L76 6.0 which comes with the L92 heads already and it was rated at 370 but for what it was at the time it was quick and plenty of fun. Only other chassis to share that motor was the Pontiac g8 gt only difference that I know of was Holden/Pontiac used an LS style intake manifold where the trucks came with the Vortec intake.
@@Dustin-ee5oh that was only for 07, they bumped up equal both at 403hp for 08 but the truck version lacked DOD until 2010 for some reason if I recall it had it but wasn't active in programming.. GM always does wierd crap with thier motors.
Dustin2493 - Would you have to do a DOD delete if you made this swap in a corvette? I've heard it's a popular modification for the G8 due to potential lifter issues
Yup, that is what happened based on the damage & interference evidence of piston & valve. Ring end gap could have contributed, but it was primarily the timing chain.
In their scenario, the lack of oil causes a piston to seize and the shock breaks the timing chain and then the dominos fall for the subsequent carnage.
@@djmips yup exactly. Pretty sure halfway down the third run a piston was dropped and exploded below, therefore being ground up and sent though out the motor by the pump till it died not even moments later.... Honestly surprised it ran to this point but he did keep turning it over and running it.
@@djmips Most likely, good timing chains don't normally break unless there is some major resistance like a piston seizure and/or low oil pressure. Or if they are near the mileage where they fail, i would have hoped they replaced the timing chain if it was "getting up there"
I think the camshaft seized in the block because of the lack of oil pressure and then the chain snapped because something had to give. They couldn’t even beat the cam out with a dead blow! Then the pistons smashed into the open valves and met their demise. And the rest is collateral damage.
They break things is what he means. lol As cool as it would be for them to do that, I think they have enough projects going right now. Even if they did take your uncle's Camaro, it'd probably just sit in a corner somewhere until they (eventually) get Leroy, Neighbor, Ruby, and Cooper's CTS in as stable a shape as they can.
I've intentionally blown engines up and never had that much carnage! Surprised everything stayed inside the block & pan, and not a trail of parts on the track...
Yeah there was quite a bit of blowby the pass before it blew. Just wonder how many were cracked after that pass before the last pass. It held together quite well considering.
I bet the trans is screwed too, sounded like it downshifted or something on that last pass scattering the engine lol I guess we will see! Looks like you can at least salvage the........... valvesprings? lol
The ring lands aren't the things that touch, it's the ring ends. On a boosted motor, you need a bigger gap at the ring ends. With the higher pressures and temperatures that come with boosted motors, the metal in the rings grows more, and you need to leave room for that ring growth or the ends will touch. On this stock motor, the ring ends didn't have room when they grew, so they touched, pushing the whole ring against the cylinder wall instead. When this happens, it creates an interference fit between the rings and the cylinder wall, and puts extreme pressure on the ring land areas of the pistons. This in turn cracks the ring lands, and in extreme cases like yours, breaks the piston right in half.
@@noidontthinksolol Did they modify the spark curve? increase the pulse-width/flow rate of the fuel injectors? If not that's why they ended up with with an oil pan full of chunks. That engine was doomed before the first time it fired up.

it would have gone another 200k. exceed limits of strechability is possible with anthing
Virtue Streams nah he should have gapped the rings and he expected too much out of gen 3 small block. Could have made pretty close to the power he had safely
No shit but the whole reason for the build was to show what a 200k mile engine could do
if they gapped rings and had oil pressure and checked pushrod length they would have been fine. you forget the sloppy mechanics guys be building haphazardly and still get decent reliability.
Junkyard 6.0 Block is all you need, 408 eagle stroker kit, Good to Go... should be more Eagles that the rest of the drive train will handle ;-)
not if you dont gap the rings....

Cleetus, you were right on a couple a points - the engine was blown, and 3 pistons were broken!! That was a serious detination, well done.
Oh, you're just gonna show that on live television? You thought of the family of the 5.3L seeing that on the nightly news?
People love shock value, even the family...they just wont publically admit it! haha

+1 on this.
James Maxwell yeah it might have the missing piston and rod in it.
It's probably toast.
Know what? I know *nothing* about engines, but this channel rocks. Oh man! the cam gasket hit the sprocket rocker and the doobie rim fell into the rim bowl head, and the faucet cam brocket burned out the bore cam. Love it! It's all Chinese to me, but awesome!
James needs a behind the scenes UA-cam channel
Lots of carnage in the block, but what about block carnage ? All those pistons and rods bouncing around and no holes is amazing.
Dad said as soon as you pulled the first head - your timing chain broke. All that damage is the result. A broken timing chain caused the pistons to smash into the the valves that were no longer closing, and the pushrods were driven through the lifters.
You know it was a very good rip when a piston is just completely gone. LOL
Even better when three are gone!!!
The Pistons couldn't do it for Dale.
This build is probably the most popular. Even more than the Leroy build! Excited to see where it goes from here.
Welcome to Cleetus' boat anchor sales and services. Fresh in stock is this new LS truck block.
Fresh in stock is this new....DERRR.....gently used...
What fun.
An all those metal trash is inside the turbo housing now.
they know, but it'll make for at least three more videos if they act surprised. "the turbo is blown!!1 - getting the new turbo!!1! - intalling/testing/dyno tuning the new turbo!!!1!"
just like they didn't gap the rings and were hoping this engine would blow.
They can put new bearings and seal in the turbo.
@@ShadowOppsRC Bearings in the turbo are fine, it's a hot side impeller that's going to need replaced. If enough large chunks made it through, it may have moved the shaft enough the cold side may have made contact with the housing... No, it's junk.
Chauncey McGuilicutty they do it all for views and get really sweet things gave to them to include in videos. They probably already have a nice shortblock from texas speed because of all the advertising they do for texas speed.

You guys should make the block into a table and give it away
By far the best channel of all time. Destroys engine.... laughs about it and will have a new one in and running in a week pushing more power😂 this channel has been doing so well lately it’s crazy

the bearings are probably toast in the turbo due to the metal going trough it
ya think?
plaugedyeti maybe. They may have used a metal screen turbo oil filter to reduce oil pressure for the ball bearing turbo. I do.
Nah, filter should stop that... now the impellers on the other hand, at bare minimum the hot side, are junk.
What happened to the utv project and where did it go?

@@dirtracer21d ahhh. What that gokart thing?
The cast pistons and the stock connecting rods are the weak spots on LS engines. Lean out once under boost and there will not be a second time. Even worse is all that shrapnel is all through the turbo now.
Try to find a 2007-2013 Denali or an Escalade if you want a 6.2l
@@Dustin-ee5oh Huh? My 2011 Yukon Denali 6.2L is rated at 403 hp.
@@Dustin-ee5oh that was only for 07, they bumped up equal both at 403hp for 08 but the truck version lacked DOD until 2010 for some reason if I recall it had it but wasn't active in programming.. GM always does wierd crap with thier motors.
Ahh well I kinda stopped paying attention to them when I sold mine back in 2010 lol. But yeah they def do some weird shit

RIP to the dale truck. Idk where you are but you are missed 😭
One thing I really like about you guys is the knowledge and chemistry. Are you guys related or childhood friends?
All of that could have started with a broken timing chain.
Do y’all want an 89 camaro it was my uncles who passed would love to see something productive happen with it
KAY SAVAGE did you not just watch this video 😉🤪
Nate Vanderloon I must’ve missed something I skipped a few parts
They break things is what he means. lol
As cool as it would be for them to do that, I think they have enough projects going right now. Even if they did take your uncle's Camaro, it'd probably just sit in a corner somewhere until they (eventually) get Leroy, Neighbor, Ruby, and Cooper's CTS in as stable a shape as they can.
Kay savage I'm a productive guy! I'll send you some go pro of your uncles Camara being polished up then ripping around some epic mountain roads...
KAY SAVAGE are you in Texas?
Amazing that the block has no holes. Hard to believe.
The holes are in these guys heads, no pun intended.
I've intentionally blown engines up and never had that much carnage! Surprised everything stayed inside the block & pan, and not a trail of parts on the track...
Sweet a junkyard video that will be a nice change of pace
The carnage!!!! One of the most satisfying vids yet.
Wonder how many pistons were cracked before the start of the last pass? When she came apart, it was massive destruction.
Cast pistons under forced induction pressure, high mileage, high horsepower. Do the math.
Yeah there was quite a bit of blowby the pass before it blew. Just wonder how many were cracked after that pass before the last pass. It held together quite well considering.
I bet the trans is screwed too, sounded like it downshifted or something on that last pass scattering the engine lol
I guess we will see!
Looks like you can at least salvage the........... valvesprings? lol
Only thing I saw salvageable was the oil pan.
The trans was slipping anyway
JoeDog McKeel lol
Thanks for the teardown. I was really interested to see what happened.
Oh yeah they definitely didnt know that
