Hey Erica, one thing I noticed that you said UA-cam doesn't zoom in to notch. But in fact, it does zoom in. Go to display I settings. There is an option of app display in full screen under notch section. Here you can select whether to open in normal or full screen mode.
I love my OnePlus 6. I got the white with rose gold. Everyone keeps complaining about the speaker but I had a HTC, the first dual front facing phone, and this speaker isn't bad. I love everything about this phone.
I think 720p at 480 fps is the best slow motion decision this year. 960 fps for .2 seconds is no fun. The many moments you want to catch at 960 fps are so quick and spontaneous that if you miss it, you may not be able to make it happen again.
Lockonese You still get 1080 at 240fps. You're acting like 720 is your only option. That 720 at 480 fps for 1 minute is better than shoddy 720 at 960 fps for .2 secs. Good luck even capturing what you wanted to in that .2 secs. Like I said, One Plus made the best slowmo decision this year.

I bought the midnight black 128 GB model and I love it. I upgraded from the 3 so the included OnePlus switch software ported all of my data including setting my old preferred alarm. This phone is so buttery smooth I use it as a wingman.
The extra ram is used to precache data. Hence why more ram is better for Android than CPU performance. You can grab a SD 600 and give it 8gb of ram and it will feel like an iPhone x because of how Android uses precaching

Bought an oneplus 6 and decided to ditch my s6 egde. Although the phone is super fast, the drawbacks when compared to my 3 years old phone are a bit too much. pros: 1.super fast 2.stock android experience compared to samsung is AMAZING 3. Headphone jack 4. Feels premium af 5. Amazing battery life (8-9hrs SOT) and lasts 1.5 days with moderate usage 6. oxygen OS is simple and fun to use cons: 1. the 1080p display sucks. The color calibration is horrible. Oneplus needs to add qhd display (as an option) like samsung. ( I had an option to view 1440p videos on my old samsung back in 2015. The pictures will look blurry/distorted if pictures are not calibrated for such a big screen. What is the point on having an edge to edge display then? Therefore op6 is NOT a flagship killer IMO in respect to display. 2. Add a stereo speaker. A headphone jack can be added on the top maybe or not at all. The market is getting involved in producing wireless headphones due to changing trend, it is high time we shift to Bluetooth headphones. A stereo speaker is A MUST. 3. Camera (Pro mode needs more option) things I don't care about: 1.water resistant and wireless charging. Should you buy this phone?: Yes, if you are not into perfect display colors and asymmetrical display. This phone is easily a dailydriver but consuming media can be disappointing at times given that the screen is big enough for Netflix.
Well, but a higher resolution screen will come with drawbacks. Lower battery life, lower overall performance (even though not necessarily noticeable in every situation). Using a FullHD (1080p) screen on a phone in 2018 isn't as bad as it actually sounds (and the OP6 is a bit higher res than FullHD - 2280x1080px). People should remember, that most computer displays are FullHD as well - just WAAY bigger. I mean, it's pixel density is still about 4 times bigger (around 400ppi for the OP6, around 100ppi for a 24" FullHD display). And at least from my personal experience, 400ppi is enough. I can't see any individual pixels (or the "staircase effect") on my OP3 (around 400ppi, too). Unless you're doing VR, the benefits compared to the downsides are basicly neglectable (IMO).
First of all, 1080p has a lot of advantages and I wouldn't believe you if you told me that you can actually see a big difference between fhd and qhd on such a small screen. I also haven't had any color or resolution problems, and I used to have a Note8, which is btw a lot better than your s6 Edge, so the difference should be more noticeable in my case, but it isn't. Still a flagship killer imo. Headphone jack: you might not need it, but most people out there really appreciate having this, especially since Bluetooth headphones are so expensive. It is very nice of them to include it, and I don't see how that could possibly make a good argument against the OnePlus 6. Stereospeakers: i like them as well, and it's ok if you really want them. I've tested the iPhone X and the S9+, and both have stereospeakers, so I know how nice they are. But it doesn't bother me that much. It's nice if they're there, but the speaker on the OnePlus 6 is acceptable, and I can very well live with it. But again, that's very personal. I think the pro mode offers some good features. Not every possible feature, but a couple of good ones. I don't think that's a good enough reason to miss a Galaxy S6 Edge at all. I also don't care about wireless charging or an IP- certification. It's nice when it's there, but I don't need it.
Having the s6 edge as well. Was deciding on this or the zenfone 5z. Shouldnt compare about screen pixel density since s6 edge was a beast and flagship 2015 (?) and the difference in price point.
I find it strange that this phone has a Notch and a Chin. It would have been better to have a thin even bezel at both ends, Samsung-style. As it stands, the addition of the Notch just seems a little 'Apple try hard'.
I think the notch the way they did it is easier than making really small bezels, but I know what you mean. But you gotta give them credit because the OP6 has a very small chin, especially when you compare it with most other flagships with notches.
I know what you mean. Samsung - even with small bezels - could make them even smaller, and you have to wonder why they have bottom bezel at all since it doesn't do anything (the microphone is underneath). I guess it's just to make it look even. As for the iPhone X, I agree that the notch is way more prominent and deeper than it needs to be. Hopefully the iPhoine XI (or whatever they call it) will fix this. I still have a bit of a hangup with phones that have both a notch and a bezel though, it just looks uneven to me :-)
The chin is for connecting the screen to the internals, Apple has figured out a way to curve the screen to connect it, one of the main reasons the X is a thousand dollars
Fabulous review, Erica! Very thorough, with far more USEFUL detail, and none of the cartoonish video effects and silly mugging-for-the-camera we get on so many review videos by your male colleagues.
There are really two ways you can frame the notch - it can either be a waste of space covering valuable screen real estate, or it can be a necessary evil to push larger screens on smaller chassis. As an owner of the Nexus 6P, I thought that phone was perfect (sans battery issues on old batteries), and top and bottom chins/bezels were perfect since it allowed for stereo sound. It was a perfect example of function over form, which I greatly appreciate. After using the OnePlus 6, I know look at the Nexus 6P just seems antiquated. The OnePlus isn't perfect - I think the corners are too rounded and I lose too much space there. Erica alluded to this issue when she mentioned asymmetrical corners when hiding the notch. I can't stand when functionality is sacrificed for design/form, but my OnePlus can display larger pictures than my Nexus despite being smaller, so the functionality is there, despite the design tradeoff. And after some time with the OP6, I'm not fretting the potential usable space covered by the rounded corners and notch since the OP6 can display more content overall. I'd actually prefer to make the notch sacrifice if it means more overall content on screen. This is actually ironic since the N6P has a higher resolution display...
I used to dislike the notch at first, but now I get it. The concept of the notch should be the same manner as software keys used to be. The notch it to have the speaker grill and the front-facing camera, along the status bar on the sides of it with notification icons (time, etc)
I think a notch is fine as long as you're aware that you really shouldn't believe the display size measurements when the phone is in landscape and you're watching a video. I was initially very against it, but as long as notches aren't significantly larger than the top bezels of phones that don't have notches (like Galaxy S9), I think there's no harm. That being said, I would rather manufacturers find ways to shrink top bezels rather than try to build around notches.
Jim Jam jerryrigeverything just reviewed a phone like oppo find X, but better. It has the pop up camera but it's built a bit better (in my opinion). No notch
I´ve been using the oneplus 6 for about a month now, every day Im more impressed. The strenghts of this phone are its performance and user experience, it just makes everything so much easier an smoother. It basically comes down to this: if you want to buy a phone that is smooth, fast and never lags and has a good battery-charging speed get this phone. The display is also really impressive, the design is spot on. But if you want to buy a phone because of its camera, dont get this phone. The camera surpasses all my expectations, but im not a big photo fan. For everything else, this phone gets an A-A+, for the camera it gets a B+, keep that in mind.
Many thanks! Wouldn't buy a phone these days without one of your fantastic detailed reviews. every problem i have found with my past phones have been issues you had already flagged up! keep up the great work!
I want to say thank you for including the color accuracy for this phone... as a digital artist with a laptop that has cursed Intel blue hues, having a phone with the right colors is very important to me until I get a laptop with proper display. The warm white doesn't bother me too much, however the red is something to think about... thank you so much Erica!!
Picked up the midnight black version and I've barely put it down since it arrived today. It just feels so nice to hold, definitely the most ergonomic phone I've used. Also the specs completely destroy anything I want to use it for so yeah... Happy days, would recommend.
This is the most in-depth review I've seen yet. Hitting that "subscribe" button. Really like this phone: near stock Android, ear phone jack, larger screen, internals PRICE POINT. It does not support my carrier...yep, Verizon.
To make the phone even faster: Go to Settings>About phone> tap Build number option until you are a developer. Next, go to Settings> developer options, set the 3 animation scale settings (5 swipes down) to .5x for even faster transitions while opening apps, swiping, etc.

Shouldnt compare about screen pixel density since s6 edge was a beast and flagship 2015 (?) and the difference in price point.
i dont know how i have missed this kind of review for so long.. amazingly technical yet most comprehensible review.
Interesting. I still would have gone with the Samsung 2 thin bezel option though, I think it just looks better.
Fabulous review, Erica! Very thorough, with far more USEFUL detail, and none of the cartoonish video effects and silly mugging-for-the-camera we get on so many review videos by your male colleagues.
I haven't watched it, just wanted to be among the first to comment. But I know the review is perfect before I even begin to stream it👌👌👌😉😉
This is probably the best video about the OnePlus 6 I have ever seen. Great flow and nice new information. Congrats!
The notch is still NOT okay!
Death to the notch
Disable it, problem solved
This is what i call a proper Review!!! as a photographer ive been searching for a proper review like this!
Subbed :P Great Job!
Cheers from Portugal!
Vivo NEX
Oppo Find X
It looks like a iPhone 10
Mystic18 then you are blind
i am impressed the way you do your reviews they are so detailed AF
That red is actually bloody awful.
Oscar Cooke-Abbott sexy*
Nice pun "bloody awful"
great video! probably the most detailed review ive ever seen on the oneplus 6 or any phone in that matter
Notch Notch Notch ...hate hate hate....
Idiot idiot idiot
The review I was waiting for. Great work!
Many thanks! Wouldn't buy a phone these days without one of your fantastic detailed reviews. every problem i have found with my past phones have been issues you had already flagged up! keep up the great work!
Oh goodness what a tease. Can't wait to see your KeyTwo review as well.
None of the phone nowadays is color accurate but if color is very important optic oled is not for you. Go for samsung
TheKamu666 oh I see! I'll look into it, thank you :)
Picked up the midnight black version and I've barely put it down since it arrived today. It just feels so nice to hold, definitely the most ergonomic phone I've used. Also the specs completely destroy anything I want to use it for so yeah... Happy days, would recommend.
Keep up the good work Erica! This was the most useful in-depth review I have ever seen. Brilliant work :)
This is the most in-depth review I've seen yet. Hitting that "subscribe" button.
Really like this phone: near stock Android, ear phone jack, larger screen, internals PRICE POINT. It does not support my carrier...yep, Verizon.
Objective review. Must have taken ages to put together. Loved it! Thanks
its been a long time i have seen a video of yours and you have evolved so much, also i liked the technical benchmarks of display and stuff
To make the phone even faster: Go to Settings>About phone> tap Build number option until you are a developer. Next, go to Settings> developer options, set the 3 animation scale settings (5 swipes down) to .5x for even faster transitions while opening apps, swiping, etc.
Hey. Just stumbled across this video review, as I'm considering getting this phone. I'm so over Apple and my iPhones.Macs etc and getting shot of my Apples products. Really enjoyed this informative, straight-talking to the point review. Without all the fanfare of 'oh look at me I'm a blogger' annoying behaviours we see all to often. Well done Erica! I really liked the shadow scale / brightness scale with the numbers. I had never seen that before in a cell phone review.
Thank you Erica.. I was looking for how good the screen was and no other review shows it. Your review was really detailed and had all the info I needed for my buying decision. Subscribed.

Best in depth reviews of any smartphones come from Erica. Great job!
this review has been helpful! most reviews only focus on generic stuff like specs, bla bla bla. this one actually measures the screen and display calibration. Thank you! Now I'm starting to use Adaptive Mode for the display calibration.
