    A couple of years ago we had two leopard geckos: Reptar and Peach. Now I realize that we were feeding them so wrong. We just left a bowl of mealworms and let crickets hopping around. Now that I watched your videos I found out how to take care of a gecko.

      I use to be scared of crickets, when we would fish I couldn't bate my hook with crickets but anything else was fine, but I decided to pick one up, I was the same way with mantises I always wanted one but was scared I wouldnt want to handle it if I got one and it wouldn't have good care due to my fear of it, then I held it and there really cool, My advice is, just grab one and hold it, you'll get over it in seconds!!
      Good luck!

    Can't believe you can handle bugs! They gross me out so badly, if one was crawling on me, not a metalwork but a cricket, I would get up and scream and keep wiping my arms or wherever they landed and run to take a shower! The Pangaea looks o.k., and feeding a small bug with tongs when the bug is dead isn't bad, but that's why I will never keep reptiles! I have 6 guinea pigs though and I love yours, lol!

  • @Rainxiety

    Good video! Maybe get some LEDs (like the White Python ones) to light the vivs for filming, I have an LED light and it works great! Also, I haven't heard of mealworms biting! I know the morio worms do - those things bite the feeding tongs! - but mealworms have never been a problem for me. Have you ever been bitten?

    • @JTBReptiles
      @JTBReptiles 8 років тому

      +rainbow kirby Morio isn't a family, it's a species. Morio worms are zophobas morio and mealworms are tenebrio molitor, I presume they share a family but apart from looking very similar it doesn't mean because one bites that the other will necessarily do the same.

    • @JTBReptiles
      @JTBReptiles 8 років тому

      +rainbow kirby I didn't think she did have LEDs, I thought she was against the idea for some reason or other (not sure why or whether I have that wrong!) but I think they'd be a good idea to at least pop on for filming purposes.

    • @AllAnimalsHere
      @AllAnimalsHere 8 років тому

      I've heard that you should crush mealworm's heads(ouch) before feeding so that they can't bite your gecko...I don't do it as of right now, but you could do it to be safe

    • @AllAnimalsHere
      @AllAnimalsHere 8 років тому

      +JTB Reptiles LEDs are needed during the day if your geckos live somewhere dark, her vivs have 3 walls covered so she uses LEDs during the day(I think...)

    • @JTBReptiles
      @JTBReptiles 8 років тому

      +All Animals Here I think that about crushing the heads is just from another ridiculous myth - that mealworms can bit out of your animal's stomach. It was a very bad myth that is not as commonly heard anymore, but crushing the heads was the remedy people gave.
      I'm just so surprised to hear her say mealworms can't be left near them because they bite, when I've been feeding mealworms for three years and never seen one try to bite once.
      Perhaps she does have LEDs then :P Just don't know why she doesn't put them in for filming, I'm sure it would make a big difference!

      What's the setup like? Temperatures?

    • @JTBReptiles
      @JTBReptiles 8 років тому +2

      Just try raising the temp up about half a degree. Wait a few days and do the same. After doing this four times (it worked for me last year, ending my leo's 4 month fast) you could try and up the amount of time that your gecko receives light. Maybe 20 minutes more everyday could be beneficial.
      Ensure you monitor the weight regularly - a sudden drop would indicate illness and a trip to an exotic bet would be immediate required action. If the weight drops slowly, or not at all (mine barely lost a gram), then it is most likely a natural fast.
      Hope this helps :)

    I'm getting a gecko in a few days and I'm still not sure if I should use paper towels or Eco Earth. Which is more expensive? Also if they poo in one corner, how do you clean it without replacing it? Or should I get a carpet? I watched your video on this but I till cannot decide. This is my first gecko so I'm not sure what I should do...

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 8 років тому

      Reptile carpet needs to be replaced after a few washes since it holds bacteria. Eco earth only needs to be replaced every six months. I'd go with Eco earth, since insects can get underneath both reptile carpet and paper towel, and their claws and teeth get stuck on reptile carpet. Your gecko will also be able to dig in Eco earth

      yeah look on gumtree, freeads, preloved - theres usually local breeders on there, or geckos that need rehoming. As for supplies you can check amazon, ebay, swellreptiles, onlinereptileshop, etc.

    +Leopard Gecko
    I was recently planning to go to pet owners to get a gecko but after seeing your Dear Petco video I decided I wanted to go somewhere else to get it.
    Where do you recommend I go to get one?

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 8 років тому +1

      Well not all pet stores are that bad. As long as your petstore seems to take care of their animals properly, they're fine

    • @MsteryWoman
      @MsteryWoman 5 років тому

      @@fionashepley478 I disagree... Most chain pet stores get their reptiles from very poorly run breeding mills. So even if they are doing okay at the pet store, the pet store is buying and and supporting the terrible conditions of the breeding mill.

      +Fiona Shepley trust me she's fine. I know a lot of breeders and they all say the same thing. " pinkies are a good source of calcium for the geckos" plus pet shops say the same

    • @Dan-ty7cb
      @Dan-ty7cb 8 років тому

      +Keeley Brown Pinkies are a ball of butter, they're mostly just fat. They're completely useless and unhealthy for leopard geckos. There's no point whatsoever. If you want to fatten your leopard gecko, do it with something healthy.

    at my petsmart they don't have 100% calcium, all of the brands they have have D3 in them. is this gonna be a huge problem for my leopard gecko or will it be ok?

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 8 років тому

      Yeah, it's hard to find pure calcium. If you use calcium with d3, use vitamins without d3

    I have 2 questions, I hope they haven't been asked already, but do you find that you like Pangea better then Repashy now? An when you are feed bugs to crested geckos what are you supposed to dust them with? I saw your leopard gecko vid on it but for crested geckos do you just have to dust calcium?
    Thanks!

    So I have a 3-4 month gecko and she pees and poops a lot when I'm holding her. Is this normal? Or is there a way to get her "potty trained"? My sister has a gecko also and she is a little younger but she has never once done this to anyone who has held her. So if anyone could help that would be great!

      Feeding fruits and veggies to crickets is completely fine, it's totally different from feeding it to your Leo.

    • @KeturahMarie
      @KeturahMarie 7 років тому

      LardonTakesOver Yes she meant like whatever calcium or vitamins are being distributed into the insects that she feeds the geckos. Not directly. Just like when moms breastfeed their babies.
