    Great video. As a newbie to archery and barebow, it's fantastic to be able to watch top quality barebow archers in action as so many videos online reference Olympic recurve setup. To see how these guys setup, aim, release - it's fun to watch but really educational too. Thanks for posting.

    Being a loner when I started archery, I could not get the sight block low enough to hit the 20m, so I gave up on sights, the best thing I did, I have a 68" barebow recurve, with Shibuya plunger and rest, My shooting is getting better and better, just ordered some new arrows so waiting in anticipation, I also love the flatbow, off the shelf shooting, so pleased with a flatbow I tried my hand at making one, so 4 bows later and I am going back to lighten the limbs, they all are too strong for regular shooting, and being 59, I am not getting any fitter, also being disabled with a lower spine problem, I find I can do archery no problem, it is walking for the arrows that kills me, I joined a club St Neots Bowmen, a great club full of friendly people, they have improved my shooting no end, and sorted out my problems with shooting bless you all :) Bare Bow Rules :) makes you a better shooter :)

    Many thanks for hosting & posting. Barebow is my passion - I started that way almost 50 years ago, then left the sport for 40 years. Since I still had my old equipment (Herter Sitka Perfection 72" and Easton aluminum shafts, leather shooting glove), when I took it up again I defaulted to the same equipment and style. String walking, shooting tab, carbon arrows, metal risers with doodads on them all seem kind of alien, but the principal hasn't changed much. I know I'm not as accurate as the wheelie-bow archers in my club, but I get pure pleasure out of being pretty darn close without any mechanical help!

    I enjoyed this as much as the footage of last year’s event. Well done and thank you Lancaster Archery!!!
    It was also very encouraging to see the support and interest the barebow round generated with the crowd and online. It gives me great hope that this could be expanded to other barebow rounds such as wood riser recurve and wood riser longbow rounds shooting off the shelf.
    I am not one of the haters or critics of the existing round and whether or not it can legitimately be called barebow. There are reasonable arguments for and against. Those guys up there in the barebow classic are amazing shots and amazing to watch.. I’ve watched 2017 and 2018 many times.
    Simply put, you have hit on a not yet fully tapped interest is shooting bows without sights and I see no reason you can’t garner more viewers, fans and customers as you explore other barebow rounds. You will never please everybody and there is a point where you should stop trying to as it will only negatively impact on your great tournament. However I think there is certainly room and interest for classic barebow at the Lancaster Barebow Classic.
    Particularly I would love to see a straight laid or string follow longbow/flatbow round with aluminum arrows rather than wood. On the line I want to see the best archer not the best arrow smith. My fascination with arrow smithing can be enjoyed elsewhere.

    Just started shooting last October, great video of the finals guys! Production values 4.6 stars, we can always improve.
    In any case, an excellent mix of camera angles, commentary and slo-mo replays w/commentary, I learned a lot. One thing on string walking, 3/4-1 inch crawl was mentioned at 20yds but bow poundage the archer was shooting was not mentioned, critical to the gap solution.

  • @johnlaccohee-joslin4477
    @johnlaccohee-joslin4477 6 років тому +3

    The action of moving fingers up and the string is called xstring walking, it changes the angle of the arrow release upwards or dowards depending on which way you go.
    Regretably it also effects the speed at which the arrow leaves the bow so also the lenght of the shot very marginally.
    In fact the most effective use of this is on a bare bow of original style i.e. straight wood bow where the arrow rests on the first nuckle of the bow hand.
    Sting walking is usually down under the string and means that the arrow is not supported at the string other by it knock fitting to the string, therefore the arrow is usually on the left of the bow not the right as in histrical methods, in fact shooting from the left is mainly for speed shooting and horseback shooting.
    The string hand also uses all three fingers on the draw theat are kept together.

I haven't seen that yet. I'd also like to see more than four matches on the final stage, but I don't know if that's possible with the tournaments time constraints. What a sensational difference:
    1. The guy with the base-

    attention to himself
    about "when he started
    in archery" and all that
    dribble, as if anybody
    cares;
    2. Second Announcer:
    "Let's watch these
    archers shoot"! PERIOD.
    I "stumbled" upon this competition by mere accident, and I really don't know why.

    • @Stephanthesearcher
      @Stephanthesearcher 5 років тому

      you can forbid weights but the only thing that will happen is that the industry will creates barebow risers that are botom heavy without additional weights.
      the way it is now ppl can use the normal olympic recurces, those are designed with long stabelizers in mind and need the barebow weights to find a balance again.
      so banning weights will change NOTHING performance wise , only force the ppl to buy new risers.

    If this is barebow archery, what's the name for the kind of archery using bows that aren't centershot and don't have riser sections, arrow shelves or arrow rests? I would have thought bows like the English Longbow and Asiatic composite bows would have been barebows, or at least "traditional bows", but apparently "traditional bows" refers to bows that aren't takedown but are still centershot, have risers, arrow shelves and arrow rests. People use the word "traditional" fairly loosely, but these "traditional bows" weren't invented until the 20th century.

    So there’s a open division for men and women and a women division as well? Is there a mens division?

    In the 1980s I shot tournament archery. I would be interested in getting back in it. What are the rules for different classes. Do you still need a PSAA card to compete?

      You will need a PSAA card to compete in PSAA state or regional championships only. You could still come to a regional shoot and shoot as a guest if you didn't have a card, but could always sign up for a card at the regional shoot

    I noticed that they all used three-finger-under drawing, while I've always used split finger, and I usually only use 2 fingers. Is there some fundamental way that going 3 under helps aim? Is the "string walking" that I saw that big a deal for accuracy? Answers please.

      Isaiah Hansen With three fingers under the arrow you can get the arrow closer to your eye for aiming down the shaft of the arrow. Also, it allows string walking which allows you to change the pitch of the arrow so you can hold the arrow point dead on where you want it to hit the target.

      Lancaster Archery Supply Thanks for the quick reply. I will probably still aim using split finger, and I'm trying to learn the Mongolian style of drawing with the thumb. Good luck to everyone in their archery journeys!!

      I like it cuz it is stronger and distributes the pull for less hurting fingers.

      NFAA Barebow and Bowhunter classes are dying here in the States. Rob at LAS has made a great move going with WA Barebow rules. More than twice as many BB archers then last year.
