my recruiter told me the same about me taking adderall for two years. Halfway through basic I went up for a flight physical and since I was in tricare they could see all my records. Went to medhold to start out processing the next day and eventually got an ELS. Luckily the RE code they gave me lets me enlist in the Army so I’ll probably attempt that once I graduate with my Associates next semester.

Approaching 4 years on my army enlistment. My waivers have made this hell. I’ve done all the same stuff you have nick. Everything. Community service, dozens of letters of recommendation, completely quit drinking, got the stamp of approval from the colonel but now my waivers are getting sent to the DOD and Department of the Army. I’ve been fighting for this for almost 4 years. I’m terrified they will deny me. I got two DWI’s over the course of a 6 year period. Which is why I quit drinking because I don’t want to give them a reason to deny me. I haven’t been denied yet but every time we seem to make headway and cross a new milestone, I get another wall thrown up in front of me. I just reached out to my local congressman today. This is my last and only shot to change my life. I have nothing else. I want this more than my next breathe. there’s nothing I won’t do. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks nick.

I will have to sign a waiver and ultimately become this new version of myself, hardest thing ever ti believe in myself. At first it was doubt and low self esteem. Im not a completely different person yet, but i know when it does happen, this signature i put on their paper for however many years i go in, i will be thankful to the heavens for having a second chance at a better me and a better life. I got a service wide medical DQ from the Navy because of something I had as a kid. I almost made it through MEPS but during the physical at the end of the day, my heart rate was up a little because I was stoked. Got clearance from my doctor and a cardiologist including some tests the Navy wanted and still got shut down... I could understand the Navy didn’t wanna take me but then they said nobody else could either so that was like a punch in the gut from Mike Tyson.

In 1979, getting the criminal record waiver was easier, I had one simply assualt , two public intox and two traffic violations that were waived. My ASVAB scores were high, but with the waivers I could only get in on an open contract. The waivers kept me out of crytology mos. Had the cyrto tests and interviews in boot camp, then told no way when the waivers came back up. In '79 you could still get a three year active duty contract, so that's what I did. Twenty years and six months later I retired as a CWO3.

When I was in 6th grade I got my first Felony as a minor. Selling home made suppressors which I leaned how to do while I was Germany for a year with family. I made about $20,000 doing that and the only reason
I got caught was because my bag got searched entering my school building and I kept all my money on me. I couldn’t leave it in my room cause my room was always searched due to how I was. Police came to visit me after school and I had my money taken away from me because the police and investigators believed it was drug money. So I got desperate and started producing more suppressors by the dozens. I probably had around 40 packed in my room at one time( if you’re wondering how my parents never caught on I that I was making and selling illegal suppressors I told them that they where not real suppressors they where for airsoft and paintball. A few weeks later one of my contacts catches a case and I get brought down with him. Guy robbed a 7/11 with a 9 inch suppressor. I get sentenced 9 months in Juvy with 2 years probation end up only doing 5 months and I was allowed back into the same school district when I got out. 4 years go by I’m doing the same shit only that I started using a different signature to lower my chances of it coming back to me and getting sent to big boy prison. I started expanding and got involved with the hells angels from selling them government issued IR lasers and Nods and all that good stuff I had some connections. Eventually I got caught up in a shit show again when there was an undercover agent disguised as a hells angel when one the hells angels connects brought in a shipment of 40mm HV and LV NATO, PKMs and SVDs While I was inspecting the shipment I knew that I was fucked. I didn’t know they where dealing with explosives and I knew exactly what those grenades rounds where and how impossible they would be to get. Something was up. Turns out they where stolen from a special operations training base in Virginia or Cali. And of corse they where being tracked. 20 or so minutes later Federal agents are in the building as I’m walking around with a box of explosives in my hand. I get sentenced with Conspiracy to Traffic Weapons, importing, exporting, illegal possession and Transfer of firearm to another person with the knowledge that it will be used to commit a violent crime or drug trafficking. Literally had to look up my charges real quick because I couldn’t remember. Ended up testifying and telling my truth without snitching because I’d be an idiot to. My “friends” not gonna say any names only said my involvement was with the selling of government issued NVGs and lasers and got a 25 year sentence down to a 10 year sentence from mainly my age being a factor and for giving them my contacts information. Everyone one else got 25 to life and the one other dude who brought in the 40mm grenades and fire arms is still in A brig for life. Just got my I got my GED and now have my own business, a son,my own business and a big ass track record

Most definitely the story that needs telling. As a former recruiter, your minimum ASVAB score would have to have been over 50 (upper mental group). The test is like asking what’s your weight? There is no real way to “prepare”. Just do your best! Remember this - it takes most candidates 2 trips to MEPS before they clear medical. They say that Hard work = great rewards! They weren’t kidding. The military is God’s way of saying “Ask and you will receive”.

As I began reading other stories about how the military helped people turn their lives around I decided to share mine. If this is a little long winded or uninteresting write some negative comments and I'll delete it. I got popped after graduating high school around Dec '71 with 1/2 once of pot w/a few other felonies added on for stacking. Pot was a felony back then and Texas was the worst state to get busted in (2 to life for a joint). I worked next door to the recruiter so as the charges were working their way through the court system they sent me for the Army's AFQT test battery. I scored pretty high so recruiter then went to the court asking if I joined would the court release me. I was offered either fight the charges and go to jail or go away for 3 years in the Army, get an honorable discharge and the charges disappear. I entered basic Jul '72 on my way to artillery and Korea. Recruiters just told me to stay away from anything needing a security clearance.
A few of us were called out of basic one day for an indoctrination about EOD. Taking bombs apart looked like fun so I waived my enlistment option and after basic went to EOD school. Graduated the chemical phase but midway through munitions phase I was bounced out due to problems with a security clearance (go figure). Reassigned to supply school and off to Ft. Lee, Va.
.Later transferred to Ft. Sam Houston. In late '74 after the NCO Academy as an E-4 (my E-6 recruiter was in the same class) I applied for Warrant Officer Rotary Wing Aviation Course. Once I had a class date I reenlisted and spent '75 learning to fly graduating in Jan '76. After my 3-year obligation was finished I left the Army as a CW2. For the next 35 years I flew as a civilian around the lower 48, Alaska, West Africa and Europe flying EMS, SAR, Instruction, fighting fires, offshore and spraying remote rivers in Africa.
In 2013 retired in Portugal and moved to Serbia in '17. Time now is split between riding a Harley (bought new in US in '06 now w/128,000+ miles) or a bicycle around Europe exploring stuff, partying and studying local history. Charges disappeared decades ago and still only a HS Diploma. Sometimes I wonder how life would have gone if I'd refused going into the Army. The Army was very good for me. From busted for pot to flying helicopters as a Warrant Officer to traveling Europe………….it's been a ride.

Fast forward a week later after all has been removed and healed my recruiter sent in the paperwork to his station commander and said I had been denied because of how many tattoos were removed and gave me little scarring. So I told my recruiter I’ll still wait just in case the tattoo policy changes since I still have time and dedication. This was in 2019 now it’s 2021 and got a call from a new recruiter telling me the new tattoo regs and told me there’s now a 95% chance of me getting in the Marine Corps. In 2003 I was slapped with 7 felonies, 3 from one county, 3 from the other, and 1 federal felony. Initial charges were 11 charges all together.. most got dropped due to plea bargaining. My dad and uncles were all military and my uncle suggested I talk to a recruiter. Well, I talked to a recruiter at every single branch... even though I was never in trouble before (and haven't been since...17 years later) they literally laughed in my face.
Fast forward to today, I own my own business as a 1099 IT field engineer. I am also certified to repair TV's by Samsung, Vizio, Philips, I took 2 years off a while ago and shadowed under a 35 year veteran journeyman electrician (basically did that so I can run my own electrical and conduit so I don't have to wait on electrical contractors) and now I mostly do IT work for major food manufacturers, and now, in my spare time, I am learning a lot of the residential construction trade.

They wiped out whole family lines just because 1 person crossed him. After we killed him and his sons, they now have the right to vote and don't have to live in as much fear as they once did. Let me ask you a question. What have you done for the world or a country that even comes close to that kind of change without picking up a rifle?

If u actually wanted to talk to a recruiter I could talk to the Jacksonville recruiter and have her watch your video. I go to Dixon and am enlisting and maybe this could help my GP in some way too.

I got denied from every branch for an arrest that happened when I was 12. Convicted of a gross misdemeanor, but the DoD goes by the initial charge which was a felony. Nobody could get me a waiver (allegedly)

I was told with a misdemeanor possession charge as a minor by the Marine Corps recruiter that i wouldn't be eligible for a security clearance for Recon. Infantry or truck driver was all i could do. That was 2002.

Yeah, that happened to me, but I went in as infantry and moved around and got the job and training I wanted and the security clearance. You just have to keep moving forward.
