I saw Richiardi perform this illusion live at The Bottom Line Club, an intimate setting in Greenwich Village, New York in the late 1970s, along with a number of other fabulous magicians. My girlfriend and I were seated at the front row of the stage. The trick was executed with such precision that although the "blood" spurted toward us, it landed a couple of feet in front of us, so we weren't drenched with "stuff" like we might have at a show of the comic Gallagher with his Sledgeomatic. At the end of the illusion, Richiardi invited the audience up to inspect the results. Being an amateur magician, when I spent a little too much time examining the buzzsaw "wound," Richardi's assistant gently smiled and asked me not to hold up the line too long. We shook Richiardi's hand and thanked him for a wonderful show. I'll never forget the amazing illusions presented that night, especially Richiardi's.

I saw him perform this in NYC in the 1960's. He was on stage with other greats such as John Mullholland and Roy Benson. Anyone else at that show?

yes, I too saw this on SHOWTIME when I was a wee lad in '79 and it traumatized me as well. I am sure this takes amazing skill, talent, whatever... but I can't get past how evil and horrible it is. yikes.
