- Lapsi and Suhari is like a sandwich made of roti and a milky, sweet, creamy filling on the inside. It's used as an offering in Hindu prayers to Mother Durga and it's so yummy as well.
This recipe will make exactly 10 pairs of Lapsi and Suhari.
For the Suhari, you'll need:
2 cups flour
2 tablespoon ghee
1 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups ghee
For the Lapsi, you'll need:
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups whole milk
1 cup evaporated milk
1 tablespoon ginger
1 teaspoon of cardamom (elychee)
5-6 cloves
2 tablespoon ghee
1 Siliment or West Indian Bay leaf
1 cup of water

I used your recipe and it was great. Only thing I did differently was use some ghee and stick a pair together and press them out together to get the perfect pair/size. I fried them together which cut the frying time down as well.
Love

This is exactly how we make it for Durga puja in Fiji :)
Awesome! It's seems that Fijians and West Indians are very similar!
Yes, we are! Fiji has natives and Fijian Indians. :) We call it Lapsi Poori there. I have a narvratri vlog that shows my mom making the lapsi :)
just making it today for holi in Fiji
proud to be Fijian🌊

Awesome!!!I enjoy watching you cook doll, love the sweets stuff for Diwali, i can only make parsad ....
Try this come out perfectly well.
Very interesting. Being an Indian I have never heard about this dish!!!! May be it is a typical North Indian dish. I am also amazed by the number of spices which you used- again, may be unique to West Indian cuisine. In India, spices are restricted only to savory items not much for sweets. Elachi is the only spice used for Indian sweets and of course vannila essence for western desserts like cakes, puddings etc. Raw ginger powder is used only for certain sweets in Kerala. Nutmeg, saffron are sometimes used. Very rarely cloves but never cinnamon or bay leaves.
Wow, really? I guess this is predominantly a West Indian tradition. Yes, I know...I love how the Elychee and cloves taste in savory dishes. I'm glad you told me this, i'm learning a lot about Indian culture and my roots through you. Thanks again :)
I'm not 100% sure but in Trinidad bhojpuri (Ancient bhojpuri) souharee means food offered to God. And the sohari- puris were one of the most famous offerings along with lapsi to goddesses and priests in Trinidad. The puris were served to priests on Calathea lutea leaves as a plate and very quickly, the leaf was called sohari-patti or "leaves associated to sohari-puris" by the bhojpuri speakers. The lapsi is a traditional eastern Indian pudding which is used as an offering in the Bengali Durga puja and in bhojpuri and awadhi goddess worship. The flavourings are personal preference and also tradition. Cloves, elychee and cinnamon are The most used while cilliment leaves and vanilla are indigenous to trini culture.
+Trini- Indian Kitchen edible camphor, ginger, nutmeg and tulsi leaves are also sometimes used in trini offerings but it's mostly personal taste.
Both puri and lapsi ( similar to halwa) are North Indian dishes.
+outragedlyrics that's interesting! I do believe that North Indian lapsi is made with cracked wheat while the bhojpuri one (maybe East Indian) that is made in Trinidad is made with flour. The same way the Bengali one is made for their Durga puja. And the sohari is a sweet version of puri. Puri is known all over India.
This is probably my favourite prayers sweets! We usually don't put ginger in the Lapsi. You made the sohari the same way I make it though! 😄😄🕉
Me too, my favourite!! I like the ginger taste lol☺
+Taste of Trini actually when we make for maa Durga, we throw in some neem leaves as well but not too much to make it bitter. Just like 3 leaves because traditionally, mother Durga likes her offerings with neem leaves but that's just my tradition. Not mandatory. I never really tried the Lapsi with ginger but next prayers, I'll add some in there! We also make some sindur with cornstarch and food colouring so that we can still eat them with the sindur on them.
Great! Thank you.
You're welcome
very nice
thanks for that recipe the best one ever
thank you for sharing
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
I love lapsi, but we never put ginger just milk sugar flour and gloves. I will try your recipe next time. I enjoy watching your videos my maternal grandfather lived in Trinidad as a child and I was always curious about your Country.
I love it as well! Well the ginger is optional, some people don't like the taste. Awww that's nice☺ Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed looking at your lapsi and Suhari but how do you know when the suhari is cooked?
Always enjoy your cooking blessings
The sohari is a very very thin roti so it takes seconds in the pot. When u put it in and u see small bubbles then turn quickly for another few seconds. When it's done put in paper towel and cover properly to remain soft
Thanks!
Thank u....going to try it!
No problem! Enjoy!
+Taste of Trini ☺
i am glad i discovered u on youtube i finally could make all kinds of sweet for divali now thanks again
For Durga puja we also put saffron and cloves_ the flowers clove along with the sindoor.
Hi I used your recipe for lapsi and sohari. It turned out to be delicious. Thanks for sharing

Stephanie Samaroo What do you mean?
well ppl use all diffrent kind of mesuring cup so i wan to no which one i shuld use to make it come out good cuz im goin to try ur resipe
Stephanie Samaroo Oh ok, you should be fine. Just use a regular 1-cup measuring cup
normally I would parched the flour for the lapsee mixture otherwise nice video...thanks for sharing.
That's how my mom does it and it cooks quick. I like to do it like this and cook it low and slow.
girl you can cook reel good yummy.
Thank for watching!
Very lovely girl
👍👍🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷 🇬🇧
You don't have to put sugar to knead the dough u could just put little ghee n water ok.the.lapsi.already have sugar ok i find d lapsi came out little brown it supposed to come out white ok..otherwise everything was good!!
😳
It's all ok but too many ghee has been used in everything. This can result in high cholesterol level then cardiac arrest. We agree this is Prasad for our Goddess but at same we should be health conscious because at the end it is not the deity who is eating but it's us.....so u understand. ...
It's not made for you it's made for god so she made it with love and the best way she can and it's call Prasad you don't have to eat a whole hoetoetoe just a lil bit for the pleasure of your tongue and sense you don't eat ah belly full. If it have 500 calories and you take 1 bit you not going to dead but greedy people don't know how to control themself .

Didn't know sindur is edible... I do my prayers South Indian style, and we don't put sindur on food offerings
Maulin Agrawal This is West Indian style. I guess everyone does it differently
Taste of Trini Is sindur edible, though?
nah i doubt it. sindur is put to the offering, but the rest is without sindoor. I think.
Sindur isn't edible.so alot of it isn't applied.just a small amount like a match stick head is applied.and wen u eat break that part off and dont eat that piece.thats put to the puris that offered to devi matas.not Di baba.
@@renumahadeo4507 Dee Baba is not worshiped in Kanchipuram. There are 3 major temples there, one for Shiva, one for Kamakshi, and one for Vishnu. The only use of sindur as far as I’ve seen is on coconuts.
pls seek Jesus, so your soul will live...
minima007 r u god? Do u know your commandments??? Thou shalt not judge.
Thank you
