Thanks for review. This is a compliance car and it shows in terms of range and 44 kW CHAdeMO plug. Storage space under hood? If like my e-Golf, I bet there is a lot of unused space near motor. Way too expensive and should have at least 200 miles of range and 100+ kW charging speed.
Yep, gimped by Toyota so that they can point to the poor sales and claim that nobody wants pure EVs. Certainly nobody in their right mind would pay anything close to that money for a car with that poor a spec in this day and age. 150 miles? CHAdeMo? Hasn't even Nissan dumped that for the Aryia in Europe?
Great review. The most honest E.V. Review channel out there. It is so refreshing to know I'm not the only one that does not believe £50000 is a normal amount to spend on a car. The likes of Lexus need to look over there shoulder at Neo, Xpang. They are coming for them and cheaper.
Yes. It'll hopefully help to force the charging companies to keep the Chademo connector on their units, for all of us who'll only ever be able to afford a 4th hand Leaf!?
For me Lexus design an EV and sadly decided they do not want people to buy it. First point -The price (Tesla 3 is a more premium car and its cheaper plus + infrastructure) still cheaper Second point - Charging point and charging speed (very disappointing) Corsa E can charge 100kw However I absolutely love its design. Maybe next gen will be better. Great honest opinion as always. Thanks
I love Lexus, such a nice place to be or was? I had a 200h and l loved it so did the wife. Time to change (2016) and i wanted an EV. So tesla right ? could not get an M3 back then so i got a BMW E330 as lexus did not do PHEV's . Nice car and i think about the time you and I both had guest spots on James's channel. We ( the wife and I) have always wanted to go back to lexus ever since, in the interim we now have a tesla M3. This video has now put me off going back to lexus they seem to be dropping in standards. Nice video ryan keep it up we miss you here on youtube
A very good review. Can you use the flappy paddles to coast? 3.5 miles per kilowatt hour when pootling about is reasonable in a luxury vehicle like this.
As you know you also have regen on yourbreak pedal, on this car you have more range than you have in the display, and for the range you have to charge before and after if you shall tell the real range. Toyota and Lexus have allways been too conservativen but this can be ok if you know about it. Thanks for the riewue.
Thanks for the fair and honest review, Ryan. Absolutely agreeing with you that Lexus have built a fine first example of a full EV. Let's see what they do next.
11:20 from my experience with a Toyota hybrid that was electric at slower speeds, the grabby brake effect was reduced by a technique of slowing right down to below crawling speed before rolling up to a stop. I would have preferred if creep (constant minimum level of accelerator even when not press accelerator) would cut out when brake is applied though: after a decade, the electric motor torque (to simulate creep) seemed to weaken which helped too I suspected, and which can be simulated by braking in neutral gear (which was also useful from time to time to give non-regen brakes some exercise to clear the brake pads of built-up rust). The grabby brakes caused chassis bounce which helped the car behind to recognize they need to stop too. Though the newer ev Lexus are working on may have suspension flattening feature (at least in the concept) so maybe they could have fancier brake lights to show stops to other cars instead
I don't love the out side. The interior looks ok but the track pad must be right pain to use while driving. I don't like the drive mode nobs at! Sorry this really isn't for me especially at this price point. Is urban a car makers code for poor range?
Went to see the IONIQ 5 and yes very good for a Hyundai and the spec. Good range plus the same features. Top ultimate range puts it just under the Lexus, but the build quality does not even get into the same ballpark as Lexus. I'm worried about how that car would last and reliability. The interior of the IONIQ 5 looks really cheap and nasty.
It's a good question but surprisingly, there is an answer. I test drove the UX300e, then went straight to the Hyundai shop and sat in an Ioniq5 (without driving it). Both are really nice cars that could make the owner happy. The Ioniq5 looks better from the outside, has a lot more room in the back, more range and a slightly bigger boot. The interior on the Lexus feels a lot nicer than the Hyundai - the display Ioniq5 felt like a cheap rental car in comparison. And at the moment there are really good leasing deals on the UX300e. the Takumi pack was the same price as the 58Kwh Ultimate Ioniq5. The Lexus was in stock, the Hyundai wasn't, so I ordered the Lexus. If the Hyundai was in stock and the boot size difference was more emphatic, maybe I'd have ordered that instead.
A great review Ryan, but at high 50's and mid 40's for the cheapest car, it's very steep! For that price (or less) you can get the Ioniq 5, that's way superior!
Too much Prius in the rear lights. Wheel arches - what’s going on there? Way strange lines there for Lexus. Big grille makes a Lexus statement, if you like that, but EVs don’t need big grilles, so it was an opportunity for Lexus to start a new direction. Interesting driver controls yet it retains a sort of gear selector. Don’t agree on the driving mode being a twisty knob. Chademo and 50 kw - no way! Range is insufficient for the cost.
Hi Ryan, from one embarrassing Dad to another 😀 Not a bad car but I think Lexus could do better, let's hope the concept you mentioned becomes a reality. 👍🏻
These will be a rare sight on the road. Curious what Toyota's serious attempt at an EV will bring in the coming years. I fear a bit for ChaDeMo in Europe. They will no longer be required with new chargers in France .
Lexus is the Blackberry of automobiles. Desperately overdesigned with a ridiculous amount of buttons. But I bet the software is rock-solid. Still, a nice review. Did I miss the range part?
£45,000 to £50000! Really!. This looks like a car that Toyota may have designed 5 years ago and then said 'nay BEV's are no good lets keep on with the Hydrogen' LOL Good review though Ryan

Chademo? Seriously?
Yes. It'll hopefully help to force the charging companies to keep the Chademo connector on their units, for all of us who'll only ever be able to afford a 4th hand Leaf!?
Great review. How is the Lexus selling in the UK? Norway sells a couple hundred a month.
Nice review, nice car.

No Google Maps? Wow! How does one navigate?
Why would anyone want to buy this rather than the Ioniq 5?

Nice to see you back at it. The car itself does nothing for me.

So lexus gives us realistic battery capacity but unrealistic driving range... that makes sense?

I think I spoke about range in the driving part. 150 miles for me but no sustained 70mph driving so would be less at speed but more around the town.
The new Nissan uses ccs
I would say Lexus are "embarrassing pensioner " class judging by who I see driving them. As for the car, designed to fail.
£45,000 to £50000! Really!. This looks like a car that Toyota may have designed 5 years ago and then said 'nay BEV's are no good lets keep on with the Hydrogen' LOL Good review though Ryan
For that money you could get the upcoming Ioniq 5 or KIA EV6 which are so much more interesting and better looking.
not going to sell many of those, way too expensive, old fashioned and over designed, poor charging speeds and range. Whats it got going for it?
It was fun to drive 😬
Don’t like it.
Very poor attempt
