As a white kid growing up in a mostly black area, I wasn’t into Elvis at first but my black friends dragged me to see his movies. What sold me was when I first saw a video of him performing in that gold suit ! Then I immediately recognized that this has got to be the coolest man I’ve ever seen with that self confidence. My black friends also got me into Brenda Lee too. At their house , the records played were Ray Charles, Mary Wells, Bobby Bland , Sam Cooke, Dinah Washington, Brook Benton and Elvis, Brenda Lee and Joey Dee and the Starlighters !

I used to mock Elvis at school in the 80's. As I only knew the fat parody Elvis. Then a substitute hippie teacher, filling in as our music teacher was ill. And she opened my mind, and when I scratched the surface, I grew to realise what a Muppet I previously was. 😂🥃

Elvis grew up surrounded by black folks and black culture and The South. It was fated for Sam Phillips and Elvis to meet.

Black people who knew him personally both in entertainment and everyday people, said nothing but positive loving things about him, calling him a white man with a black soul. A quote from a black woman named Magnolia Smith who was just 19 when Elvis met and befriended her in 1974 and hired her and put her through college, "He was my friend, we were quite close. Many black people think Elvis was racist, but I knew him better than that. He treated me like a father would a daughter". Most black people today believe the lies spread because they have been raised to look down on whites as bad people because of the past instead of educating themselves to learn about the real Elvis. They go with narratives instead of facts.

Little Richard: "Elvis Presley has done more for us black people than any politician in this world."! james brown: "I wasn't just a fan of Elvis, we were brothers too"! James Brown was the last person to touch Elvis before the coffin was closed. That was his wish.

What people don’t understand is way back then, Elvis opened the door for black artists. There was much more racism back then. Elvis helped the black artist break through. It took a white man to do this. That’s just the way it was back then.

----------------- When an artist covers a song, they record it AFTER the original artist already had their own hit with it. That's what cover means
Stealing? No, he paid royalties to all the songs he covered, not just R&B.
Rock vs Blues.... Another fallacy is that Rock & Roll is identical to R&B. Set aside the term rock, because it's been used in blues, Country, and no one knew how to classify it when Elvis came along.
Listen to Elvis' 1954-55 Sun Studio recordings (not the live ones) and then compare side by side with the original Blues versions of those songs, and you will see the general differnce between Rock & Roll vs Blues
I should also mention, unlike the Austin Butler Elvis movie, Elvis had a ton of influences, which were there right from the start at Sun (Country, Traditional European Hymns, Bluegrass, Appalachin Music, Classical, Opera, etc etc. All you need to see is Elvis' lifetime catalog of music and it like a shopping list of genres & artists, so blues were only a fraction of it. Certainly not to say blues weren't important though.
Until the new millenium, bios always included mentions of his deep Country Music roots, and his singlehandledly mixing Country with Blues and came up with his own unique blend, called rockabilly.
Bill Hailey is another example of a multi genre influence and blending music styles, yet Bill is nearly never mentioned anymore. His song, Rock ARound the Clock was the first #1 Rock song, and Billboard Music started the rock era with that song.

To the creator this video, I enjoyed it. However, the first time James Brown (The Godfather of Soul, Soul Brother #1) is mentioned, a still image of Jim Brown (civil rights activist and American football legend) is shown. They are not the same person.

More people need to be like Elvis Presley. He treated every one equally. No matter what you're skin color was. We are all equal in the eyes of God. It would be nice if everyone would get a long in this world. 💞🕯️🫂😊🙏
