I use an old milk crate to keep my big buddy up. Really helps keep the ice from melting under you. Especially if you get the fan...

You need a thermal stove fan for that Buddy heater. It makes a huge difference in air circulation.
Your setup was elite for a solo mission. That 450 is the perfect amount of space.

Dude,for ice camping, you need a little fan to blow the warm air to the floor. The heat goes straight up from the heater, but a small 12 v fan will circulate the warm air down to your feet. The floor mats keep the ice from melting and the heat in.
Ice camping is fun,but if you're cold 🥶 it's a drag..

@@MinnDakOutdoors computer fans are usually 12 volt... find one that is 2 wire, red/black, red is positive just like in a car or boat... Case fans move a LOT of air and are fairly quiet. A 120 volt house fan fan on the power pack would work but it will eat battery! Thy are NOT low energy use.

Me and my buddy are gunna be doing some ice camping Jan 1 for the first time as well.. we will be using a sunflower heater. My question is how much does the ice melt overnight with a heater going? We currently have 4.5-5 inches of ice on the lake we wanna fish but will likely be more then that by Jan 1
If possible i would wait till the ice is 6+ in thick. Also be careful if you use a sunflower heater. Those can be dangerous. I would suggest using a big buddy heater because they have a built in CO2 detector in it

Ive used bells but lately Ive been putting my rods in the holders and loosening the drags when I sleep. The fish wont pull the rod in the lake and the drag wakes me up.
