- Here is my 2014 makeup inventory... some crazy numbers but they are slowly going down. Since recording this video, I've decluttered my eye makeup collection and my fragrance collection (including all the miniatures and samples, which weren't shown in this video)... those videos will be posted soon! I will keep at it this weekend and hope to declutter a bunch of other categories. While I'm still not close to my ideal numbers whatsoever, I hope to get there one day. I never thought of actually counting all my makeup products. The process must have been a huge eye opener for you. We don't realize how much we have until we count it. Definitely do decluttering videos :)

Pinksofoxy's lifestyle always inspires me - she's such a minimalist. I list all my makeup products in an excel sheet - puts the craze into perspective.
agreed!! she is so inspiring! i listed my nail polishes in excel and swatched them all too... it definitely brings some perspective lol. :)

Good luck with your quest. It's hard to decluttering and face how much we spend on our makeup collection. Gotta admit, it's hard to decluttering when all the awesome holiday palettes are coming out. I always worry that I get rid of so much, only to rebuy...that will be the challenge....not to be tempted once you reach your number. I give you lots of credit with this task. Good luck..blog sales are always great.....people love to purchase products from blog sales...that may help you reach your ideal number and recoup some of the monies spent on product...Happy Thanksgiving.....I'm exhausted...so much cooking and cleaning...now enjoying a piece of pie and watching my beautiful friend! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
thanks so much, maria! holiday palettes and sets are definitely a weakness of mine but i've been doing well this year so i'm hopeful that i'll be able to continue with my no buy. a blog sale is such a great idea - i've had a bunch of comments suggesting that i do one and i think i may go ahead with it. i think having a blog sale will motivate me to pick out more products to let go of. :) hope you had a lovely thanksgiving... ours was very low key but still nice. i can't believe it's back to work tomorrow already! where does the time go? xx
petitepearstyle I think a blog sale is a great idea! Over time too, we start to know you and used products that can be sanitized would be perfectly "buyable" from someone like you!
You're doing great! The inventory concept is so scary to me! I don't think I could bring myself to set number limits just yet, but I'm considering doing that for my closet. With regards to makeup, I've just told myself that I'm not allowed to surpass my storage system that I have now. My nail polish isn't included in that system, but I feel those are easier to toss.
Our collections are pretty similar. I literally hoard (for a lack of a better word) lip products, eye shadow products and nail polish too. I took filled a box with makeup I don't want in my collection any more.
I want to take it one step at a time and give my self cheat incentives to make the process little more rewarding (aka, VIB sale purchases). I don't know.. it's hard. lol I get a lot of pr samples too, but I'm a lot less attached to those.

Awe that was sweet of your husband. This was probably one of my favourite videos, such a great concept to go through and realize what you have. I know I go to the store and eye products only to get home and already own something similar. I'm excited to see the decluttering! Oh yes...these are definitely eye openers haha. I just did one a couple months ago, & I've also been doing project pans this entire year. I'm just starting on my 4th project pan (alllll makeup too) for 2014 this coming week. Project pans will *really* help you reach your goals :)

don't be so hard on yourself, I have found that things do tend to build up a little at a time. I bet that you didn't even realize how much you have. I think if you had a blog sale that would help get over the guilt. :-) big hugs to you!
i had no clue how much i had, especially blushes! i literally thought i had maybe 20 or 30 and seeing/counting them all up was shocking. a blog sale is a great idea... i am leaning in that direction. thanks and big hugs back!!! :)

I love these types of videos. I know you can do it. I'm on a makeup declutter journey myself. Because of videos like these I was able to realize in time my own personal problems with my makeup. Now I'm going to be keeping the makeup that I truly love and use on a regular basis, and use up the others. Good luck on your journey. And try to not be so overwhelmed. Ive gotten that way sometimes and had to take a break, which makes my journey to my ideal makeup a little further down the road.
thank you so much! it's incredible how the products just build up and build up... to the point that you don't even know what you have anymore. i was surprised when i pulled out some products because i literally forgot i even had them! i think a break would be helpful at times. when i did my eye makeup declutter (video will be posted soon), i was on such a high that i wanted to keep going but i made myself wait so i wouldn't burn out. i'm trying to do one big decluttering project each week and so far, that's been working well. :)

I love this! I think I could definitely use an inventory list. I'm a bit afraid of doing it but I also know it could help me. I have started using things up and trying to re-discover old favorites but it's definitely a journey :)
thank you!! it was definitely scary to do the inventory. i did not want to know how many lippies i had in my collection! i have to say it is quite helpful though and the sheer numbers alone make me want to declutter. i've started rediscovering some old favourites too... and i've been able to declutter some old products that i'm not crazy about anymore... it's a great feeling. :)
Such a great idea! Since me and my boyfriend moved I have been trying to organize and declutter but I haven't started with the makeup I think taking an inventory is such a great idea!
makeup was pretty much one of the last things on my list... i knew it would be the most difficult. the inventory really opened my eyes (literally)!! :)
I feel like when we watch all these beauty gurus buy and review all the new collections we get caught up in the hype of these products and end up buying them knowing that we might not use them . We just buy because it's pretty or has nice packaging . I would love to buy all the new stuff but thank god I don't .. I would be broke . Plus it helps I can do eye make up lol
i totally agree... after a year of doing my low-buy, i can say i'm not really tempted to try new products anymore. i don't even feel the urge to watch reviews of new products! things were much simpler when i had a handful of products that i loved and i would only buy a replacement product when i finished one.
I'm glad that I saw this video of yours and applaud your courage in doing so. I have been decluttering my makeup collection as well, I started decluttering when I moved countries, the weight of my makeup/skincare box was incredibly heavy that I feel so ashamed of it. So good luck with your quest! And I'm going to go through my stash again to see what I can give away.

I just watched your 2020 inventory and then went back to this one. The difference is pretty amazing. I can’t wait to see your inventory for 2021. I have also been downsizing everything for the past few years. Everything is in a much better place numbers wise but I think that I really need to set myself ideal numbers of each category and then work to hit those numbers. Even though I have maybe one third or less of what ai used to have I still don’t use a large amount of what I have. Plus I am older and my tastes have changed a lot from when I started buying too many cosmetics!
Oh my gosh! I've been meaning to go back to watch this. It's so excessive!! Your comments resonate with me so much. My tastes have changed as well and I'm still working on my tendency to hoard things... but I think it's getting easier to both recognize when it's happening and also finding ways to overcome it. :)
@@AuthenblissityMain I came across a photo that I had taken of all of the blushes that I owned at about the same time that you posted this video and it is really, really excessive. I had them all open to compare colors. I think that I was beginning my decluttering journey..and the blushes covered about half of the bathroom floor. Maybe more than half. I probably had 200 of them or so. Now I look at the MUCH smaller amount that I have and think that it's too much. I have to try to remember how far I have come along.
Wow, it must of been hard work to do this video. I can imagine all then time and efforts put into this, well done! Can't wait to see the decluttering process, I think you're inspiring a lot of us to do the same! I went true my makeup yesturday and alredy feel better. Personnaly for me, I should do this video about decluttering my clothes because I feel way to many and I also don't like to keep things that I don't use anymore. It's so much more simple when we only have itemps that we use often!

it took a surprisingly long time to do the inventory!! i thought maybe an hour or two and i'd be done... but 4 hours later, i was still doing it. i didn't even put things back properly at the end because i was too tired! it's so true that it's much more simple to have items that we use and love, whether it be clothing, shoes, makeup, etc.!

I love love love that you have followed PinkSoFoxys formula. I guess probably because it was the first one I saw. I love to see other opinions on ideals and such. It is all personal and what fits your life.
the makeup inventory is such a great idea and pinksofoxy's video was the first i saw too! ideal numbers are definitely personal... i may never get there but at least i have a target to work towards! :)

I know you filmed this over a month ago (I found your channel through the Finish 6 By Christmas video) but I just want to say - good job! I also did an inventory a while ago and it was QUITE eye opening. But I've been watching all kinds of project pans and declutter videos - it's really helping me get a grip on not buying so much stuff, or not buying things "just to try". I can really relate to a lot of your feelings. But the cool thing is, there exists a community to cheer you on and support you! I'm off to start your declutter series now, I'm sure I'll comment on those videos.

I just bought "makeup storage" so I can put all my makeup in one place and hopefully that'll help me have a better idea of how much there actually is...although I am scared to count up! I also struggle the most with polish and lip products. Even just transferring some stuff to my storage I managed to get rid of some products though, so I'm going to just keep working on it and I will definitely look forward to your decluttering videos as it is super inspiring watching others :)
i was really apprehensive about doing the count!! i'm glad it's over and done and the numbers can only go down from here. that's great that you were able to declutter while transferring your products to your new makeup storage. i am hoping to declutter one more category this weekend but not sure which one yet... i'm always thinking about what products i can let go of! hope you had a great thanksgiving! x

I've totally been there! I looked at my makeup collection and I thought wow.. that's a lot. I've also spent a lot of time feeling guilty about the money I spent but in the end.. I told myself not to feel bad. Like most material things, they made us happy at one point and the money has been spent. All we can do is learn in the future to be more conscientious about our choices.
TL;DR - Don't feel bad! :)

Great video! I'm also a big fan of pinksofoxy's de-clutter videos although I must confess that I'm not very good at abiding by the idea! For example, I just counted my eyeliners (which admittedly I wear every single day but still..) & felt a little bit sick when I lost count at around the 75 mark, eek! I dread to think how many blushes I have because that's my real addiction. Why am I not surprised at your lip collection? :) x
haha yes lippies are my weakness! i was surprised by the number of blushes i have. i knew i had a lot of nail polish, eyeshadow, and lippies but thought i would land at around 30 blushes. yikes!
wow. definitely pick out your ultimate favorites first and enjoy them. as for the rest you should do a project pan =)
maybe give some unopened items as gifts to friends and family.
great idea to pick out my ultimate favorites! i do want to use those first so they don't go to waste. i am doing well with tossing old products but i still have to get used to the idea of putting aside new products to give away. part of me still thinks, "i want to try this..." but maybe i will just pick out 1-2 items and let go of the rest. :)

I don't have that many products, but a lot of my beauty products were weird cheap stuff that I bought for one occasion (e.g. a $1 purple eyeshadow quad). Nail polish is the only thing that I'm okay with getting more of, at this point! I paint my nails every day, and like to use three different colors on my nails each time, so I do use almost every color in my collection. :)
i have a lot of one-off cheap stuff too that i bought spur of the moment or because it was a good deal. i also have a lot from beauty boxes. that's great that you use your nail polish! i am trying to use mine more... since the new year, i've worn 6 of my polishes, which is pretty good for me. i'm probably going to change my polish again today or tomorrow. :)
That's a lot, for most people! Since the new year, I've worn... oh boy, probably about twenty different polishes. On the other hand, I've only ever used up one color of nail polsih completely... Clear topcoat! :D

lol your collection is just like mine in terms or lip products and nail polish. I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed. My other weakness is eyeshadow palettes. Hopefully my low buy is successful this year.

Omg is that the laura mercier artist palette?! I've looked everywhere for that one and it was impossible to find lol For me, I think I've gathered a ton of make up from holiday sets and sub boxes. I feel like that's where a lot of your collection comes from also
yes, it is! i bought it during the sephora sale on impulse and still haven't used it. it's a lovely palette though! oh yes, a ton of my makeup is from holiday sets and subscription boxes!!! those were my weaknesses when i started youtube. :)

i'm glad you noticed this - i wasn't going for realistic, i was going for ideal.
