    just to correct one info: SPAD S.VII was powered by V8 engine, not rotary or radial

    I am sorry, but your information os so iced up. Rotary engines were the norm in WWI. By the early 1920’s, radial engines had taken over from rotary.

      True. But it is worth mentioning that those rotary engines are not like those Wankel rotary engines. The outlook is exactly the same as radial engine. The difference is that all the cylinders rotate during operation. I watched some videos about that. Not sure the mechanical details.
