Liestaler Fasnacht is strongly influenced by Basler Fasnacht, albeit with a lot of local color. It begins with a large street parade on Sunday before "Morgestraich" of Basler Fasnacht. It's the second-largest Fasnacht in north-western Switzerland after Fasnacht in Basel. A concerts of "Guggenmusik" bands the night before shortens the waiting time until Chienbäse.
