    Thanks!! He's awesome! I hope to be as good as him some day! I've only been playing for 2 years. But I strive to be the best I can be. I'm in a local Symphony.

      Which also means he was likely one of those who denied women to even participate in auditions.
      Not in my hall of fame. You asked for it, so here is a bit more of the truth.
      Speaking of this, this orchestra is notoriously known for being the last great one to accept women. I would nnot blame if those dislikes came from women. That was shameful.
      In the USA, Jane Little was in service at the Atlanta orchestra for 71 years. She started when she was only 16, ironically here because all men were away fighting the crazy Nazis... She is definitely in my hall of fame.

    Wow, I finally knew his name! I have video recordings of Berlin Phil and whenever I look at the bass section, he's always so ethusiatic! He's like the Santa Claus (no pun intended) of the orchestra! :D

    Why is it that you almost never see black haired bows like the one he's using?

    • @陈铎-e1m
      @陈铎-e1m 5 років тому +3

      because the black hair has more grip on the string, but it also decreases the clearness of the notes, most solo musician do not need that strong grip but a more clear sound. However, in the orchestral settings you will see the black hair more often.

    His lesson of knowing the period of the music is a lesson that ALL instrumentalists can learn from. This video is great for double bassists but I believe a violinist who is still honing their craft would be well served to watch this as well. Fantastic stuff!
