This is the reason why Philippine Choirs have succeeded so well in garnering top notch titles in international competitions over and over again. Apart from the traditional chorale pieces, Filipino composers and choirs alike do it a step further by exploring new ways into which human voices may be used, blended, and presented. And by depicting a story that is uniquely Filipino in its choreographed presentation, the result is a perfect mix of vocal prowess where all the elements of voice projection are so beautifully blended and harmonized. It is both arresting and soothing to the human ears. Congratulations to the U.S.T. Philippine winners! You've done your country proud. :)

To those who don't understand the art of chorale music, this song is not for you to listen to. This song is an *avant* - *garde* repertoire, which means to say it is new, unusual and unconventional. It is created purposefully by people who have deep, profound knowledge in music and created purposefully for people who have the same knowledge also. So if you're just always listening to RnB, Pop, Rap, Soul, or other genres, and never(or seldom) to classical genres such as Avant-Garde, Baroque, Chamber music, Choral, Medieval, Renaissance, Romantic, Modern Composition, etc. you would say you don't like it. They sang it primarily for the *judges* and not for others because they have the say if they'll win the competition. As a choir member and assistant conductor (with all humility), i think this was a very great performance and they deserve to win the name " *Choir* *of* *the* *World* ". Well, we create music not to impress people, but to *express* ourselves. :)
Avant garde...seems to be "an unpleasant assault" on the ears... Sorry, not for me...peace😁... The ultimate purpose of music is to please and entertain. Well, your "expression" is unsavory to my senses, thus we will never ever agree...again, peace... To each his own!
I'm no expert in singing, I don't even understand the words they're singing but the sounds they create is so exotic and unique and beautiful to my senses. It makes me wonder at the possibilities of the sound that humans can produce. The human voice is a versatile material that can be manipulated in many ways. Sometimes, the message is beyond the sound we hear.
This song is for Magbabaya (the supreme deity of Bukidnon, Philippines, basically "God" as what other religions refer to) who created the first eight elements of the mortal realm: bronze, gold, coins, rock, clouds, rain, iron, and water. The lyrics, "Magbabaya, tan-won mo'ng kahimtang ni'ng imong kalibutan... gibilin mo intawon sa kamot sa tampalasan" roughly translates to, "Oh supreme deity, look at the state of your world.. you have left it in the hands of the wicked and destructive." It's a song lamenting the destruction of the Earth, a plea for divine intervention.
Bravo!!! This performance is really so unusual and so unique. This is my first time to ever witness this rare song/talent. Great job to this UST Philippines Choir, the writer/s, composer/s, artists, choreographers, the conductor and all others who have contributed in making this unique/great piece a big success. I'm glad I found this video. Thanks for posting.

it's a prayer song. they are calling the native God "MAGBABAYA" which mean God. If i'm not wrong, magbabaya is a Manobo God.
I thought this song was Earth's retaliation to men's cruel act towards nature, as stated in the description.
Magbabaya... A calling for God's protection over the world from tampalasan which means abuse.
