"Life is better when you drink out of these receptacles" pretty much sums up tiki I think (especially when said receptacles are full of rums, citrus and fruity things) Great pairs and great fun all around - thanks so much for a much needed distraction. Slainte!
Ah, Tiki... such a fascinating rabbit hole to crawl down for the adventurous connoisseur of fine carribean cane spirits. It all goes back to 2 **very** inventive entrepeneurs creating a faux-carribean/polynesian experience for American tourists from the 1930s onward. And the meticulous work of one Jeff "Beach Bum" Berry bringing those recipes back from obsolescence for us to re-create and enjoy. Wish you'd presented the team with the original Zombie containing, among a lot of other stuff, Pernod, grapefruit juice, and cinnamon syrup. But I guess there's always room for a 2nd round. BTW if memory serves Dr Funk was actually Charles Darwin's personal physician at some time. Cheers! 🥂
@@MrDman21 Yes, it isn't unheard of. But it sounds like whoever made this used way too much of it. haha! I haven't had one yet but a friend is making some later this month. I'll render my verdict when I have some experience.
These are the Tryers that my American ear best understands. This time, however, their accents were getting very Irish by the end. That was a fun one to watch.
Whenever I see an episode of TRY with Dermot and Paddy sitting together I feel like I'm in the presence of royal greatness, like Batman and Superman level greatness.
I waited to the end and no Dermott. I was robbed. More beach/tiki cocktails: Blue Hawaii, Sex on the Beach, Flaming Hurricane, Ocean Water, Rum Runner,Blue Lagoon, Mai Tai,, Sea Breeze,
A good Mai Tai is so tasty. Spent an evening at Trader Vic’s drinking them on a business trip. I had a stack of the souvenir glasses for a while. You got one with every Mai Tai at least at the Vegas Trader Vic’s.
I just had a mai tai in Kauai last week… I’m still thinking about it 😂♥️ and the amazing pineapple garnish. If only they didn’t do the agriculture checks at the airport.. I’d a brought home a suitcase of em 😂😂😂
I recently found a bar in Seattle that is very heavily tiki-inspired. It's a place called Inside Passage, and it has a lot of really fun drinks and food. Besides, who can say no to a "Pacific Northwest Underwater Cocktail Experience" with a giant Kraken named Kiki, with her arms stretched out over the room?
The theme glassware made this so fun to watch. I had a favorite Tiki bar back in the day. A few coworkers and I would go for lunch and share a Scorpion Bowl. Maybe for a Tiki part two you can add that to the list. Deadly and delicious. 😂😂
"In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room! The Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room!" That was my favorite show at Disneyland! I loved the singing birbs! Plus it was a great way to cool down on a hot day!😊
All of those drinks sound pretty good but those cups were awesome. Also, Grainne looked like she was having way more fun then the previous spicy video with the Insanity hot sauces.
This video makes me very happy. I love Tiki drinks, I've been learning to make them for the last six months. Went to my first Tiki Bar a couple months ago. Didn't order a Zombie, I got a Rum Runner instead (from the Stowaway Tiki Bar in Tustin, California) and bought the drunken surfing monkey mug that it comes in. I have to say The Hurricane is my go to Tiki cocktail after a long day. 4 oz. of dark Jamaican Rum, 2 oz. of fresh squeezed lemon juice, 2 oz. of passionfruit syrup, poured over crushed ice in a large glass and stir. I've tried the Mai Tai in Beachbum Berry's "Grog Log", as well as The Castaway, and The Blue Hawaii. I'm slowly working my way through all the recipes in the book. There are enough Tiki Drinks to try, and their variations, that "Irish People Try Tiki Cocktails" could be a regular feature for this channel.
My longtime favourite Tiki drink is a Scorpion. Imagine all six of you seated around a table with a large shallow bowl filled with the Scorpion in the center. There's a live gardenia floating in the middle of it perfuming the air and six ultra-long straws poking out of the bowl for each of you to partake. Many delightfully drunken dinners at the old Trader Vic's where the food was equally brilliant.
Long Island ice tea is my favorite as well, but man they will sneak up on you, because you don't taste the alcohol, and it has a lot of different alcohol in it 👍🍀
Some of us live a tiki lifestyle. Come to America and do a tiki tour. Lots of tiki bars in a central location like Los Angeles or San Francisco. I loved this video!
You guys forgot the biggest tiki drink out there: the Painkiller. Different levels for different amounts of alcohol and one will definitely be your night.
"Dr. Funk" can be made more 'pleasant' with a little less absinthe, more rum, and grenadine. For Tiki cocktails, you forgot the little umbrellas and maybe bamboo style mugs. The green mugs were my fave. Dermott luied about being 'natural" by the end of the shoot!! grrrhhh
In my 20s I used to go to a local tiki bar. I had to be carried out once and on another occasion somehow didn’t get tossed out despite the group of us knocking over a table. Good times.
This entire video is reminding me of the "Somoan Joes" scene in "Lock, Stock, and two smoking barrels." "You want a pint, go to a pub" "I thought we were at a pub" "Your at a *Samoan* Pub"
As a bartender, it's so weird that I've only ever heard of a Bahama Mama (and make). Zombie is a maybe but the other two...nope. That being said I'm glad Pina Coladas & Daiquiris were skipped. Thought Rum Runner, Miami Vice (aka Pain in the Ass), and Mai Tais would make an appearance though. Just for a first video. Looking forward to more tropically/tiki drinks in the future. Fun fun! Hey Paddy, I've been told I make the best LIT ever 😊
Ah I was waiting for the Rum Runner to come out. It was literally invented in a tiki bar in Holiday Isle in Islamorada in the Florida Keys. My favorite cocktail, but I live an hour from Islamorada so I'm biased. 😂 I hope y'all do a round two at some point and try the rum runner out. We have a saying here, "one is not enough and two is too many" they are dangerously delicious like a nice fruity slushie on a hot day that then causes you to wake up not remembering what happened or how you got where you are. 😂 So yummy! 👍🌞
I love the macaw glasses!!! I would try all of these, but I've had a Bahama mamma before. I definitely want to try the Dr. Funk tho.....been waiting a long time to try absinthe!! 🍹🍹🍹🍹
Minneapolis had a place called Psycho Suzi's that I've been to a few times, I even did a Halloween party there. But they closed down a little while ago.
Taran has to be the most chill Tryer I've ever watched. Kudos for keeping an even keel.

Any shoot where Gráinne sings is a great shoot
Those cups for the different cocktails are awesome! An entertaining video! ❤😊
Any video with Sean in it is definitely worth watching...love his voice, his facial expressions, his humor and basically just everything about him !!

Yes, definitely need a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th round and more until they've tried every drink in The Grog Log for starters.
Please make this a series. There are just SO many tiki drinks .
Although absinthe and rum? WTF? 🥴

They've gotta do a part 2 at least just for a mai tai. Trader vic's original recipe and the modern version.

They didn't do the Mai Tai?? Arguably the most popular tiki drink.
So pleased you now have straws!
Great tiki drinkware!!
Where is my favorite - the classic Mai Tai?

Especially a Coach from “Cheers” Mai Tai (aka the My Tie)
@@jenzerr8856 I put money on it that you had a tourist recipe mai tai and not the original recipe.
The Glass Straws keep it Environmentally Correct (way to dodge the Inevitable Righteously Indignant plastic-straw backlash)
Paddy and Dermot together ❤️ don't get any better ❤❤
Anything Alcohol and Dermot has a grand ole time 😂
I think that's the jolliest I've ever seen Dermot by the time they got to the Zombie!
I love Paddys enthusiasm 😂❤
Clearly, Dr. Funk was an Embalmer

You should do a video where everyone tries each other's favorite cocktail, and they'll have to guess who it goes with. Might be kinda fun!
This was just too much pure fun to watch!!!!!
You guys make these all so great! Thanks again!

Love this. I used to work in a Waikiki tiki bar in the 70s.
Tiki in Waikiki? Freaky.
I have that exact parrot glass!! My dad brought it to me from Florida
Hello grainne and the rest of the great cast
5:32 - If I wasn't already going to give this a like on general principles, I would ABSOLUTELY be giving it a like for the Parliament reference.

The face Paddy made drinking Dr. Funk… priceless ! 😂😂😂
Love the enthusiasm for the bum cups- 😂- just like a bunch of little kids- hysterical!!!
Totally digging Gráinne’s singing voice.
I love Paddy. He's such a Golden Retriever ❤
As a drinker, I'd love the cups. But as a viewer, I like seeing how the colors of the cocktails come out.
"Why is the rum, always gone?"
The Try Channel took it all! 😂
(Sorry for all the comments...couldn't resist.)
Taran is beautiful as ever. Such a lovely smile.
Justine Stafford would've loved that last cup.
The things Justine would have done...
Hello, Try Channel. Greetings from Bulgaria!
In the 70-80's we made Bahama Mama's in a cooler! enough for everyone!
Taran and her dimples are back 😄
This was very close to my idea for a shoot with weirdly named tropical drinks. My favorite: 'The Green Tailed Dragon of the Maroon Morning'
I like its distant cousin, a "Green Iguana!" 🤤
Gràinne is correct! You guys were short changed on the zombie!
A zombie has FOUR KINDS of rum PLUS apricot brandy.
For us in the U.S.A., those smaller Tiki cups can be bought at Archie McPhee's in Seattle. They have an online store, too.
I absolutely love Bahama Mama. You can get it frozen in a mix at any grocery store. I add more rum to mine to give it a kick.
Anyone notice that the guys aren’t complaining, he’ll, not even mentioning anything about how cold the parrot is?
What ? ! No paper umbrellas ! ? ! 😂😂😂😂
"Be somebody!"
I'm still impressed by those glasses.

2:04 - Grenadine shouldn't taste like cranberry. If it does, it isn't grenadine (pomegranate).
8:26 too. Huh, does Irish Grenadine come in cranberry flavour, not pomegranate?

Tiki is all about being as inauthenticly Hawaiian as possible. It's like the green beer served in a leprechaun-shaped mug on "St. Patty's Day".
You're fun, huh?
@gyptice unabashedly so.

It’s “St. Paddy’s Day” not Patty. Get it right. 🇮🇪
