    One time, I didn't bring anything. I went to a secondhand store and bought clothes. Washed them. Before I left, I donated them to another secondhand store. Got the tax receipt and wrote it off on my taxes.

    • @llukem
      @llukem 16 днів тому +2

      I’ve actually done this before, but just for toiletries. It’s actually not, and if you think about it, it’s actually oxymoronic to think shipping is the inconvenient option. When you’re travelling with lots of luggage, you have to worry about removing things from all of them for security, repacking them, carrying them all with you or picking them up at baggage claim, etc. It’s a whole new stressor on your travel experience. Instead, you can ship your stuff ahead of time and not worry about it at all during your travels. From the minute you get to the aeroport to the moment you arrive at the destination, you have no bags to worry about, no small places to try and fit your bags, no security to clear, and no removing your conditioner because it was an ounce too large. Ship your stuff to your hotel or place you’re staying and you don’t even have to worry about driving it there yourself. Everything will arrive right at the place for you, without having to do anything except drop it off.

    If control is an issue, why are you less concerned when the airline handles it? They lose tons of luggage every day. You might want to toss a GPS tracker in anything traveling with or without you.

      All shipping carriers have a tracking number, he could have tracked it to see if it made it and when it will arrive. He could have called the hotel and confirmed if it arrived if he was really hesitant. All of this could have been done before flying out and it would have been less stressful day.

      In Las Vegas this is normal. We deal with conventions and events daily so receiving luggage or bulk items like golf clubs especially are a very normal thing. You'd ship it to the hotel attn: BellHop department.
      All luggage is kept in a videotaped secure area. If you cancel your trip we'd happily send it wherever in the world you require. If you don’t feel like taking your stuff home the hotel can ship it for you
      If you plan on staying at a budget hotel. They would still offer some type of service, just call 1st.

    When my niece visits me she mails her stuff like a week in advance in a box and jumps on the plane with just a backpack. Then when she’s leaving we stop by the post office on our way to the airport to have it shipped back to her home. It’s still a lot cheaper. I would be on edge shipping it to a hotel or unfamiliar places. Although, the airline has lost my luggage a couple of times. Luckily it’s been on my way home and not to my trip.

    Why paying for fees or shipping when you can have the airline CC and check your bag for free?

    • @ajs11201
      @ajs11201 Місяць тому +12

      Exactly. If you travel even a couple times a year, that airline CC may be a worthwhile investment. Sure, you pay the CC's annual fee, but if that saves you from shipping four boxes, you've made that back.

    • @NextNate03

      That is the whole point of the news story.

    • @ajs11201
      @ajs11201 Місяць тому +4

      @@NextNate03 We understand that. The point that we're making in response to the news story is that there are ways for travelers to avoid that fee, one those ways being getting the airline's credit card. While those credit cards have annual fees, one would think that a journalist likely travels enough to justify the credit card fee because of all the perks that go along with it.

    • @Lillyabdlmtf
      @Lillyabdlmtf Місяць тому +1

      @@NextNate03 they're saying if you sign-up for a credit card with the airline you get a free checked bag. Depending on the card sometimes your travel companions get free checked bags as well. Another perk may be you get 3 free bags and you only have to pay for the 4th if for example you have a family of 4.

Also, do you reuse the box and if so that means you need to get to a shipping location before you leave, while on vacation. Plus the rates that you quoted for the airlines, were they the ones that you pay at the airport or what you pay BEFORE & while online, which are often cheaper? So much left out of this report!

    I’ve used a service called lugless. They provided support from pickup from your to to drop off at the hotel. Their prices are a little cheaper than using the major shipping companies, but you get the added service of guarantees of them taking of your stuff. One thing you need to emphasize is that your stuff has to be sent ahead of time so that it is there when you arrive at your destination. So if you’re one that tends to pack late you’ll need to adjust your behavior. This type of service is well suited for the cruise industry.

    As a journalist who often travels to foreign countries just to report on news matter for a couple of hours and fly out afterwards, I need to travel light. I often buy clothing items, such as dress shirts, dress pants, belts, etc. from Primark and Zara, and return those items to the store 6 to 48 hours later, sometimes returning those same items in another country. When I return them, I have my original receipt and the price tags are still attached to those clothing items.

    Some things not considered is travel time. A lot of people don’t have the extra 3-5 days for transit. Also, the ending destination has to be considered. Depending on where you’re sending it could get lost once it’s delivered. Finally what happens if your package arrives too early or too late?
