just gotta eat sleep breathe getting weight out of the car. Its literally everything to us. Instead of trying to take 100 lbs out of one place, we shoot for 10lbs out of 10 places...until you get into a car like my gto...and then its 2 lbs in 50 places lol. It can get pretty crazy, but the easiest way is to literally take the car 1000% apart, like all the way down to bare metal...and then set little goals...like 2-5 lbs per day while you are working on other stuff. Use aluminum instead of steel, chromoly instead of mild steel, thickness is a big thing also. Round tubing instead of square or angle, with small tabs welded to the tubing for mounting stuff. Its a time consuming obsession, but its cheaper than hp...until you get into stuff like my gto...then you start replacing chromoly with titanium, aluminum with carbon fiber etc lol

thank you for the kind words. Me and limpy go back 20 years.. so it didnt surprise me that he would have no quams asking the hard questions lol. In his defense, before the interview he asked me if there was anything i didnt want him to ask or talk about....and per usual, i told him aint nothing sacred with me. Limpy is someone that has been sooooo influencial in my life and street racing all over the world, and he has been a no bullshit kind of guy since i met him. ...how could i tell that man not to talk about something or not to ask me something lol. I knew he wasnt going to hold back, and he def didnt lol. Thankfully i know that as long as i answer open and honestly, than how can anyone judge me for it
Straight up brother, it was as frank a conversation, as frank (or Justin Shearer), and Limpy could be. Keep on keeping on doing you and Jackie, and let karma smack the "Weapers" upside the head due to leaky fuel cells, and leaky lips. Not making light of another man's misfortune, but damned tired of the lies, and him setting out internet fodder of a ladder over your head attempting to climb the rungs over your head and kicking downward like that will pull him upwards or something in the make believe TV world. Paying attention to all the details of a car build will keep a person from crashing into the guardrail on pass 2, unless of course someone was too busy paying attention to another man's life and misfortunes or missteps, and attempting to make hay, that he missed such a fine really important detail that Big Daddy Karma comes knocking, to knock sense into him immediately. And still glad he wasn't hurt, and only his ego and front end were bruised. Now back to the chassis setup need session, gotta love it! Sry, had to click pause right after you loaded up the driver cockpit with barbell weights, equal to your driver weight all distributed out perfectly, then 2 mins later, you saying "we have never had to put weight into the car....lol. This is a great vid guys! People really need to watch this and listen to what you are saying when you are talking about setting the car up! Cannot wait to see your tech vids with the info you are gonna share! When you said if the car is still going left, you could take some bite out. Have you ever taken bite out of one side only to where the instant center points are in a different location?
i wish i could say that i havent done that lol....But tbh the day that i got hit on the street in my og white car, i still had two different intersect points lol. That car had some weird stuff going on with it, and by proxy i had to do some weird shit to make it work and go straight. Since then, ive learned more about chassis/suspension leverage and if i ever run into that type of situation again, im confident i could fix it without using two different intersect points. But i can promise ya, if nothing else was working id do it and not even thing twice about it lol... especially on a car with improperly installed chassis 4 link brackets, and or a weak anti roll bar.....and especially a car with any/all of those problems but with no wheelie bar to help tune some bite out of one side. Always remember that this shit aint voodoo magic, and nobody was born knowing any of this shit. The only ways to truly learn how to fix your own car, is to fail. But you cant just try shit and move on, you have to actually try shit you think will work and then document everything and then change it again to maybe a different way that you think wont work. Document everything...i use a small notebook with square grid graph paper so i can plot things out by hand....it helps you learn alot more than a fancy computer program that spits out a number and doesnt tell you why lol
before a bunch of people go out and swing bars under one side of their cars lol....let me say, those kinds of "fixes" are merely bandaids to a bigger problem, that might help you make it thru the weekend or the race you are at....but fixing the bigger problem will net you more gains than forcing a car to do something it wasnt meant to be doing. Alot can be learned about a car by first checking to see if the housing is square in the chassis. I really need to do a video on this cause i see alot of cars that could really benefit by just making sure the rear end is square in the chassis before they start their setup process. Alot of guys are setting them up correctly, but starting with a soup sandwich lol . Before you ever even hook up the shocks... put the car on the jacks and square the rear housing to the chassis, and zero it to the chassis bar. Once you get it square, you should get the same reading on the chassis 4 link brackets as you have on the housing brackets in reference to the ground. I use the cheap 5 or 6 inch digital protractor on amazon (says digital protractor on it, has a screen with a blue back light and two grey buttons one red on off button) I will have jackie find the link and ill post it, i think its around 35-40 bucks. I use those for initial setup and stuff around the shop, but i use the nicer one from tim mcamis upon final adjustments....ugh...i really need to do a video on this. There are a few videos floating around out there showing how to do this, but they are mostly for full tube chassis cars built on a jig and some of the practices dont translate over to the run of the mill small tire stock suspension car
Hey I always love to listen about someone explaining chassis and suspension and even if I know what they are talking about I listen still because sometimes you can learn how to do something more efficiently than you have been doing it and get new ideas going in your head because you think about it a different way but definitely film as much as possible it's great and you are being heard more now than ever and inspiring people and teaching people and making friends keep up the great work guys

It’s awesome to actually hear someone talking about the technical side of the car…. 👍🏼
The Crow is a Great Looking Hot Rod. Your Attention to detail is great to see,and i can appreciate that you take the time to explain what your working on and the cause and effects the parts and changes to the car have. Young people working on their own cars can learn a lot from you,and some of us old schoolers. Keep it going,Good Luck.
These types of videos is are a huge reason why us motor heads watch your channel. For those that don't like it there is plenty of other places to go watch cars run. You do you and us real motor heads will keep coming back for more. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge.
I cant comprehend how you guys make these cars so light. My damn Miata is 2530
Without me in it. A Miata… 😂 us drifters don’t know what we’re doing with weight. Even pro cars with all carbon bodies end up in the 28-3200 range.
Tube Chassis the real suspect. There was a part in the show where Chief and Shawn literally lifted the bare chassis off of a open trailer.
Regardless of weight, the LS Miata puts in work!!! Cant wait to see the vette sideways!!!
@@ishaanmann1073 my corvette is lighter than my gto lol. Its 2712 on the starting line. 100% all factory chassis, suspension, brakes, all factory body panels, mild steel cage, factory glass, iron sbc, and it even has power windows lol
just gotta eat sleep breathe getting weight out of the car.
@@justinshearer3016 Its crazy how light that corvette is! I would say fiberglass body but I'm sure thats only good for a few hundred 100-200lbs. Insane!

Love the crow, much respect bro, I was lucky and got to see you race it in Idaho a couple years ago 🤘
John Who's wing is bigger yours or chiefs ?😆
i wish i could say that i havent done that lol....But tbh the day that i got hit on the street in my og white car, i still had two different intersect points lol.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Justin!
Daaam even when you text this stuff the knowledge is flowing
