So true! I get why he's a libero in Padova. His 1st balls are INSANE. A good 1st ball is the key to execute a good play. I get so amazed every time I see him receive a heavy serve or attack. His ball control and placements are exceptional not only on attacks. His passes are so controlled and accurate. His sets are good too. He's a crazily good all-around player, exceptional in every aspect. I am sooo looking forward to how much more he can improve.

It was in Padova that he improved his receiving skill, floor defenses and strength. The made up OH of Kioene padova before he came, the likes of Bottolo, Leopky are all stronger and more experienced than he is, the team lacked the floor and reception defenses, the skills Ran are good about... the reason he was chosen. That's the explanation of coach Cuttini
He's pretty average as an OH at top level. Do you think teams hire players and underuse them on purpose? Lol. Japan doesn't have many strong hitters, so a runt like ran can be a starter.

Ran? its not showing in this video but if you watch the whole match of Japan with Ran in it you will know that he is very far away from having problem with receiving. Instead, having a good receive is one of the best skill that he constantly show on the court to the point he is good enough to be a libero. Well for blocking area he is improving tho especially in WCH this year he keep gettin at least 1 block point almost at every match.

Ran Takahashi you played really well, jumping high, slapping really hard and the team played really well both offensively and defensively.
He's also a monster in floor defense, and super super underutilized in Padova. Hopefully they'll give him more playing time next season.
