I wonder if they speak the same way they write.... also since you said that there are multiple... maybe the crystals were a bribe or a form of flattery to win her back... as the way it sounded she didin't want them and she sounded like a strong lady as she knows she doesn't need them to have friends... so he probably did something to hurt her... maybe she found out about the others somehow???
My great grandparents, one of whom I'm named after, wrote love letters to each other when they were 18 and he was away at an Army boot camp. They ended up being married their whole lives and had 9 children together. My great aunt collected all the letters and turned them into a book for her siblings. My grandma gave me a copy of her book because I loved to read the letters ❤ They were a beautiful snippet of history and love.

Like she could only join upper class society or have a better future thru being with him. this took place during the Great Depression so Lester could have been telling her that she could only keep afloat (financially) by marrying him. Hannah didn’t want this though for some unexplained reason. Like perhaps wanting a relationship with no strings attached, but this doesn’t connect to her talking about their strengthening bond with each meeting, their “ecstasy of delight” per say. But it has been months so that bond could have weakened. It may only be a short lasting fiery love. But Lester from the looks of it sounds like a rich playboy, who knows his ways with woman using his words and money. ....this is just a crack headed guess at 2 am so don’t mind me~
Madeleine r. In Poland, after the war, crystal vases and other things made from glass like „crystal plates” etc were a common gift and also pretty much a symbol of status. So that might explain a bit... just thought that may be it because in Poland we call these kind of things the same exact word that means crystals.

I have the letters my mom wrote my dad when they were dating and just after they got married. There's even a letter my mom wrote impersonating me (I was 3 months old). All of them make me tear up a lot everytime. What they had was so pure. And I miss them both a lot.
these things are all valuable and their prices will go up in the future when people don't use papers anymore. I wonder why they are sold online on ebay 🤔. If I were the seller, I wouldn't sell them away.

Because they can still be alive and their privacy could be invaded, if someone had first and last name they could look them up and get records and that would be embarrassing and scary since someone has your information.
