It's a "Quasi-moon" It is not a true moon because it doesn’t orbit Earth directly, but its orbit is influenced by Earth’s gravity. It's also not gonna stay forever (but nether is the moon sooo 🤷♀️) Edit: if your talking about Kamo’oalewa btw (most well known quasi-moon) it's actually 49,629 times smaller then our moon 🤓☝️ Edit 2: Even if your are talking about the Biggest quasi-moon (3753 Cruithne) it's STILL 695 times smaller then our moon 🤓☝️ (I don't know what I'm doing with my life I'm sorry 😥)
@@coloniadelsarcasmoesteril123 not really, Venus is actually bigger than Mars, who has 2 moons, the real reason is that, thanks to their positions in the Solar System they barely have any close small object to capture into their orbits, and as they are too close to the Sun, any hypothetical moon would have a very unstable orbit, probably ending up leaving the planet or colliding with it.
Another reason that Mercury and Venus don’t have moons is maybe because Mercury might have been Venus’s moon but because of the sun’s gravity pulled Mercury away from Venus and went into orbit around the sun 🌕🌞🌑🌎🪐
Earth has two moons currently. Technically. One is extremely small and will eventually leave orbit. We trapped it for a certain durational time. So small. You can't see it with your naked eye.
your book is probably outdated, i found a book in my house that was from 1998, it says Jupiter has 16 moons, Saturn has 18, Uranus has 5 and Neptune has 4 lol
the earth really has two moons. just one is very small. just to small to build its self into a orb shape. this is based on the fact it does orbit the earth, but in truth it is a rock that got caught by the earth, and believed one day millions of years from now will leave us.
It’s temporary and isn’t usually considered a real moon as they only stay for a little while until going back to orbit the sun. And ones that orbit the sun that their trails appear to orbit earth are called quasi-moons
While interesting, what I find most fascinating is that, by far, the biggest moon in relation to its planet, as well as the only planetary moon that is solitary is The Moon, Earth's Moon*. It gives The Moon a more prominent presence and symbolic meaning, juxtaposed to The Sun in many works/cultures even though The Moon is NOTHING, compared to The Sun. It is about 1.2% Earth's mass and 1/4 the size. In fact, even though Earth 1300 times smaller than Jupiter, The Moon is the 5th biggest moon in the entire Solar System, after Ganymede (J), Titan (S), Callisto (J), and Io (J), from biggest to smallest (initial of orbited planet in parenthesis). All this is probably due to The Moon's particular formation, hypothesized from a large collision between primordial Earth and Theia. *Yes, back when Pluto was a planet Charon had this honor, being half the size and 1/8 the mass, which cause Pluto and it to be tidally locked.... but since Pluto got demoted, Earth is special again.😀
