- Old surf movies I made of Fort Point and Ocean Beach, near San Fransisco, CA with an 8mm camera. First 3 min of Fort Point and Ocean Beach in 1975. At 3:20 film on me and Jeff Chamberlain being arrested by MPs in 1972 when it was illegal to surf there (but uncrowded). We were cited with "trespassing on military property for purposes unlawful." howdy .was surfing Laguna back then .I love the ending .perfect . .actually surfed there once mid eighties .brought back single fin memories
I love the way guys surfed in those days. Black wetsuits and white boards. I lived down in Santa Cruz and the Westside Crew surfed just like thse guys. I drove to San Francisco from time to time. Linda Mar was usually empty and so was Ocean Beach. So empty it was spooky and you didn't want to go out (you never knew what else might be swimming around out there....)
right ON! Must have been such an amazing time to be a surfer.

Classic how guys surfed in those days - Reno Abellera style on 7'2" single fins. Love it.

This video is so cool, since it keeps what I loved then so much- my clear white rounded-pin single-fin- & leaves behind what I hated- typical 70's music. They were both separated from life until recently, when I got my white NP RD single-fin back, minus the music. Excellent song choice. Thx.

anybody out there ever ride "the roach"? it was the old seaplane ramp just east of the road down to Ft Point. it only broke twice in the ten years I was a regular around there.....
+Randy Bogardus I've heard guys around Kelly's talk about the Roach when I was a regular there in the late 1970's. Jim Lerer (who I still surf with on occasion), his brother Joe, Arnie Wong and the Freitas brothers as well. I always wondered about it. You're the first person I've heard mention it in YEARS...maybe decades.
And thanks for this I’m gonna start sleuthing to see when it breaks
James Dean....I only saw it break once in ten year.....it has to be a HUGE swell coming straight in “the gate”.....
....and likely only if the seaplane ramp didn’t get taken out when Chrissy was redeveloped....
I checked google maps and also asked a FPG homie and it’s there still and breaks :::))) (fort point gang they tattoo it on themselves along with the fort they are loyal to that spot). They don’t often paddle out because of th e influx of kooks now in the city but when they do they pretty much mob it and shut down the lineup to whoever they know, not ebery swell but when Kelly’s is messed up

Been surfing ocean beach since the 80's, now I surf Pescadero.....never surfed the bridge tho......you still catching waves?
