Something is way off with the defense. They fired Wilkes and replaced him with Sorensen and Staley to help with the defense. Well it looks like that experiment is failing as the defense actually looks worse than last season. Particularly on 3rd down and the running defense, which used to be the strength of this team. They chose not to emphasize retooling the O-line and instead went with the D line and receiving.....ooops.
One knock about @DavidLambardi is he just can't put blame on Kyle. This game is just Kyle being Kyle. How many times has his team blown leads. Commanding leads at that. Even defending Ronnie Bell is crazy. He dropped every target. He put him over the other two options they had? Who? Purdy was great. JJ was great. The O-Line was pretty good. The play calling and stratagy was not. I could go own, but I won't.
@@shannonpeacock3509but he put Ronnie on that field and any fan who seen Ronnie all last year wasn’t in the least bit shocked that he had all them drops because he showed us all last year no way in hell he should’ve gotten snaps over cowing and conley
Why is ronnie bell still on this team let alone the NFL, dude drops 2 catches and kyle brings him in again in the most crucial moment of the game instead of swapping out for time tested and reliable vet conley or 4th round cowing who looked hot in the preseason... cant be any worse than Butterfingers 7th round bell. And who wouldve guessed, a third perfect and easy pass was dropped. Also clown Aiyuk should publicly apologize for robbing the niners and acting like a piece of trash and give his salary to JJ who is vastly underpaid unlik overpaid robber aiyuk. Jake moody can go 8/8 like in the jets game but once theres an ounce of pressure he crumbles. All mental game for him, he needs to take a zen or relaxation class. Mckivitz is useless as usual and caused that fumble from Brock getting his arm hit and Brendel is a liability ranked 34th center. Wtf not even 32 so trash. Special teams... dont even need to say anything with the fake punt and giving up 50 yard run at the end... And sorensen looking like wilks 2.0... maybe even worse. All this money and talent spent on defense but still so trash. Where is 34 mil bosa at and hargrave the robber instead of gravedigger?
I agreed with everything you said. It's so damm disappointing that it seems that the team play well enough to win only be screwed by some jack ass players that couldn't do their job. Clowns like Ronnie Bell need to go. McKivitz needs to be replaced. When you let a guy run by you with absolutely no contact, you suck, period. The special team giving up a surprise 1st down is inexcusable. The defense IS looking worst than Wilk from last year. How is it that every time they throw a long pass, the 49ers always manage to get pass interference call? This just show we don't have players with the confident to guard anybody in the backfield and with the speed need to keep up with them. And Jake Moody, why on Earth do you always aim your kick on the left side of the post? As a kicker, shouldn't you be aiming your kick on the right side of the post but to the left? In the first game, he had similar kick that hit the left post but luckily bounce in. Again, why on Earth do you aim at the left post instead of the right? I don't fcking get it! These clown need to get their shyt together.
No. We're not "zooming out" on Ronnie Bell. He was terrible last year, he is terrible this year. It's time to stop with all the inclusive bullshit talk about "team loss" and "all around x y z." It's time for accountability. With all the money going around, there NEEDS to be accountability.
What does that mean exactly? What do you mean? How do you hold players accountable? Bench them? You can't suspend them for bad play. For anyone saying moody is trash yeah you want to imagine life without him? And I'm not even a niner fan
@@pimpinisanoncontactsport2096 benching would be too simple. I’m of the mind that there should be clauses in these super big contracts that account for absolutely abysmal play. But at the very least, I don’t think pundits or fans should dance around the most obvious and egregious offenders by constantly trying to “put things in perspective.” Of course, we should put all things in perspective, but that has become just an excuse. If any of us did something at work, like we saw from Bell today, it would be our heads. I get I’m not changing anything and nothing is likely to change, but let’s at least call it for what it is.
I think that Lombardi tries so hard to not call out individual players when they have it coming. He refused to call out Bell for dropping that crucial pass , don’t understand why he does that. He blamed the defense for him dropping that pass.
It shouldn't come down to one catch, the defence was poor, unable to get a stop, the Rams just ran through the defence like a knife through butter, big play after big play. Bell made an error and should be dropped but the game should not have come down to that one drop, it should have already been in the bag
a missed field goal and Bell dropping that pass is what went wrong besides that defensive coverage was horrible and safeties are getting torched on deep balls.
@@RaffaelLopez-z9k that was a sympathy win for you guys cause the NFL was feeling bad for ya'll. rams going 0 and 3 not a good look but to rally and beat the niners saves face for the league and a trash team right now. bah hahaha.

Being outscored 27-10 over last 3 QTRs to a completely depleted roster who was winless and in last place is the ultimate embarrassment for this franchise. Purdy and JJ-be proud of your two A+ accomplishments!
Here is exactly what is going wrong Lets compare some things. For this season (idgaf about their past) Bosa salary and production vs TJ Watt salary and production BA salary and production vs other top 10 WR salary and production (same with deebo compared to other 25m guy) CMC salary and production (literally 0 just sitting on the bench) vs the next top 5 salary and production Trent salary and production vs the next top 5 tackles Kittle salary and production vs the other top 5 TE's From where im sitting, there are about 4 people actually producing up to their salary, Brock, Fred, Jennings, Juice. EVERY other star is far underperforming their pay, its ludicrous, and instead of fans holding the players accountable, half the fans and youtubers are making excuses and coping. One of the highest paid teams in the league, with several of the highest paid or at least top 5 paid at their position ALL underperforming their peers resulting in the same record as the freaking panthers and giants. There you go, that's what's going wrong. We are paying premiums for Lamborghinis and they are performing like civics. This team looks sub .500
@@brandondeakins564 actually I know from a former player what is going on and this is directly from him. Kyle has lost the locker room and respect from the players starting last year because of the way he conducted himself after the Superbowl and the way he conducts himself in general never taking any accountability. The 49ers have a locker room division. This is 100% from a former player who happens to be my neighbor. No, I'm not going to reveal his name
No, it is not. We are already 0-2 in the NFC, and with the way this team is INCAPABLE of staying healthy, we have about the lowest chance in the past three years.
On the flip side, maybe this puts all the needed focus on the defense/ST issues to really address vs a glossing over these problems if it had been a win. It’s early enough to figure it out. Purdy and Jennings tho.
If the 49ers manage to win 10 games with their mediocre defense and lackluster special teams, that will be an overachievement. A depleted Rams offense dropped 27 points on the 49ers. That's not a good look. Especially knowing that the 49ers will face much better offenses in most of their remaining games. A 3-4 game losing streak wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.
Defensive adjustments are needed as soon as possible. Safety coverages get me wanting to jump into my TV. I'm simply a fan and A Faithful, but if I can see that the coverage doesn't match that offensive formation...we have a problem. Bell...I believe every Faithful have thought, and said it all by now.
@@kevincg101 no. I knew this team would suck after the Superbowl loss last year. Kyle is the problem. Until that gets fixed , nothing is going to change
Ronnie Bell dropped all three passes thrown to him, and I get it that we were missing 3 starters, but that is unacceptable. The ball bounced off his chestcevery time.
Got a headache and we all know the issues but Jennings Purdy Puni were all outstanding. I still believe we can win and thrive but some deep soul searching will need to happen.
Or maybe missing all of training camp puts you behind the 8 ball as has been proven through past experiences where players held out if he's still like this halfway in to the season then its cause for concern
Bell needs to be CUT or put on PS, Cowing needs to take his place and get plays next week asap. Yiadom needs to be bench and replaced with Green/Luter/Ya-sin who ever is best. Campbell should be replaced with Dee if he is better or another LB. Maybe Bosa and Ward played hurt but no excuses as they both make alot of money. Nick Sorenson needs to get better as DC or he should be replaced by someone else better before the season goes down hill because you need to be good and even better, great on D because you need a great defense to win a championship so no chance of a SB run if the D continues to fail.
If the defense plays like this next weekend . The calls for Sorenson's job will just get louder and louder. We couldn't stop LA at all. Special teams had a hand in this as well . AIYUK playing like shit. Trent Williams needing IV's and shit. Hopefully kittles returns soon. Deebo needs a big game when he comes back. I could see Sorenson's defense messing up next week as well. Doesn't look good at all right now. Alot of questions needs to be answered before our next game.
It literally hits him right in the hands there's no excuse for that drop as long as he catches that ball all the other crap doesn't matter we still need to get the issues cleaned up but we could've won today's game
What went wrong is that Alaric Jackson dominated Nick Bosa and Kyren Williams beat Fred Warner. Both 49ers super star defensive players got beat by the Rams....stop making a excuses and give credit to Stafford, Alaric Jackson and Kyren Williams.
Im just wondering what Brandon Staley is doing. All this talk about Sorenson which is valid but I remember staley having the #1 defense and its clearly not working here
Special teams are so bad it's hard to believe. Blocked punt last week. Fake punt this week and that horrid coverage on the last punt return which basically ended the game
Why didn't they hire an established DC. I get that they like to hire from within but there are so many good DCs they could've tried to bring it. I think even Stayley would be better probably
Because the nfl doesn’t allow for a fair competition when hiring assistant coaches. Most of the established coaches were hired while the 49ers were still playing for a Super Bowl last year. Teams should have to wait until the season is over before being allowed to hire coaches IMO.
replace Bell NOW give others the playing minutes ..Ayuk should return his bonus same with Bosa who has yet to unleash his beast mode consistently before the big payout..Greenlaw's absence is being felt ....the new DC should be on suicide watch after this game
Even Donte Whitner said Nick Sorensen is the problem he doesn’t know how to utilize talented players can’t believe they gave this bum the keys to the defense he look like a old drunk
Jauan has been clutch since he's been with us. He's just not been in the top 2 options on Kyles passing playbook, but when they really needed a big play. Just about every time he has delivered! So glad that he finally had his moment!! JJ is the man!!!

Your initial commentary was totally right. Bad defense - really horrendous special special team. Also having butter-fingers dropping passes I can catch. Why is the guy on the field. Shanahan either takes real action or moves on.
Very exciting to see BP and JJ do so well! 🙂 "not playing with maximum effort" sounds like "restricted output" which in a former job of mine was grounds for dismissal. come on, Brandon and Trent, wakey - wakey...
JJ has been a player with skill and effort since day one. He always makes the critical catch when needed. He was one of the few players that showed up for last year’s Super Bowl. It was great to witness his coming out party and putting together a performance equal only to the GOAT Jerry rice. O line is struggling so far to protect Brock effectively and he has to run for his life for most of the game.
Not asking Ronnie bell to make that catch? Dumbest excuse. He’s on the team and was put in the game. Ball hit him perfectly in the hands. A hs kid can make that catch.
Ronnie Bell is collecting a check, he needs to produce when called upon. Otherwise, he should never complain or pout when he doesn't get the chance again. This is how the 'fringe' guys stay in the league and continue to find work.
Is it possible that the Rams just did the work , and figured things out, alongside the 49ers (mostly) screwin' the pooch? Can't wait for the niners to "figure it out"! Thanks for the accurate and honest assessments!
You right brother,we got all this coaching staff on the D-fence side and we playing like Pee-wee league, brother we got nothing but big names on D-fence including the free agents we got for the D, MAYBE NEED YEAR WE GET BILL BELICHICK,I DON'T THINK SHANAHAN GOT IT NO MORE,
Kruger has talked about Bell having multiple drops during training camp. He also had a history of critical game drops during his time in Michigan. Time to move-on and cut him.
This was no fluke....the Rams UDFA players made key plays to beat the 49ers overrated all pro team. Guys like Alaric Jackson dominating Nick Bosa, Jordan Whittington making key blocks to open up holes for Kyren Wlliams and Xavier Smith making a clutch punt return on his first game.
Looks like they still need a D-coordinator, the former Seattle ST-coach looks more like a saboteur, send over by Carroll. This version of the extreme wide 9, doesn't work anymore, since last year, ever after Ryans left. But most annoying is also the offensive side, why do you leave Purdy with an empty backfield so often, especially on 3rd or 4th down. You take away the threat of the run as well as the threat of a draw or a screen pass against heavy pressure. And why do you run from the I-formation and not using the FB as blocker, instead running him to the opposite side while trying to open the gap with a tiny WR? And yes, the fake punt - it seems to me, they run a fake punt once a season, for years, it became a tradition. Anyway, if they stay reluctant to beefing up the O-line next year, Purdy shouldn't bother to go for a contract with SF, but leave for a team willing to invest into his protection.
Niner fan since 72. The silver lining is Purdy played very very well. This bodes good for the future.....if we can fix the Defense and Special Teams...LOL.
Take a look at the defensive line during some of the big plays. There’s more than a few where players did not play the entire play. Ran out of gas and stood around. This happened after the first quarter and a half. Just like last weeks play versus the Vikings. Then during the rest of the game special teams is an ugly issue as if no one really knows how to coach special teams. There is no quality control for receivers or blocking and tackling. The offensive line is only effective for seven to eight plays before penalties
I want to add an analytical point from this game that frustrates me about Shanahan: Mason’s last 2 runs of the game were for 9yds, then 4yds (for a first down) with 4:57 to go and we are up 7pts on the rams 46 yd line. We get a holding penalty, then it’s PASS PASS PASS, purdy running short of the first down. Moody misses FG. Rams score to tie. Next series is 5 passes with Purdy scrambling like a mad man or being forced to run. Punt, huge return by rams handing them the game on a silver platter. My point: Mason was running the ball solidly, and we needed to take time of possession and bleed out the clock more. Why does Shanahan call so many pass plays in these situations? This isn’t the first time he’s done this. I love the guy, but sometimes he leaves me scratching my head and cursing at the tv 😂
Honestly, people were excited about Huf coming back but I was scared. He's great but considering how long its been since he played, I cant see why we would expect him to play any better than BA and Trent who only missed training camp. I need to see the tape but I wouldn't be surprised if that contributed a bit. However, Huf having rust isnt as bad as defensive schematic issues. Drawing board defense, we need to get back to it. Bad.
To be fair to the 9ers week 1 rams were missing both starting tackles and hutch was parked in the backfield. Week 2 mcclendon got abused at LT. Noteboom is not a starter hes a very capable backup but this week Alaric was back from suspension and looked as expected... significantly better. Limmer has been great the only weakness was at LG with bruss making his 1st start. Former 3rd round well graded pick didn't live up to that billing but played well in preseason. It wasn't the same oline the rams had weeks 1 and 2.
Same exact issues as always when they have to (or choose to) to play off script. Unit pass protection (55% pressure rates), crucial penalties, zero pass rush, can't cover on 3rd downs, unspecial teams, outcoached, etc.
The niners were doing welll in the first half then by the second half the niners defense and special teams collapsed and rams won by a field goal attempt smdh. To many mistakes and penalties cost them today against the rams. It sucks and the niners are now in last place of the nfc west but I just hope that the niners start winning games again. 1-2 sucks but some other teams have the same record so it's not all bad. Once kittle and all the avengers are back by week 7 or so I do believe that the niners will be dominant again but for now it will be a tough few weeks for them. I'm glad it's still early in the season and I just hope that the niners fix these major issues. I really hope the niners bounce back next sunday against the patriots if not then the niners need to make serious changes. Good reporting david and take care.
To be honest I was looking for Cowing to get a start for this game and be used as an gadget player similar to what KC is doing with Worthy. I question Kyle coaching style at times for he under use rookie players with talent.
Ya david, this is the nfl. There is no excuse for that situational dropped ball. Purdy was throwing dimes all game. To say that wasnt on ronnie is to give blame to purdy. I know ubsaid def and special teams and i agree those phases have blame but u cant overshadow or hide that bad of an nfl drop. To me, u drop something like that and i think ronnie needs to be on the first bus to cfl. There's NO WAY that missed catch should NOT be critiqued and it positions him WELL down in the depth chart. That missed catch puts cowing on the field...that missed catch is inexcusable...and frankly im pissed about that missed catch. Purdy played so good to overcome two phases not playing well. On a game to game basis david, that missed catch is the difference between. W and an L period.
If you are on the team, you are expected to perform regardless of your depth status. We didn’t hire you to fail. If we did a poor job evaluating, coaching and then putting you in good situations, that’s on us. If you didn’t respond to the coaching well then that’s on you and it’s time to go. If the coaches refuse to replace you, our coaches are failing the entire team. If you are reporting this why aren’t you asking those questions, it’s at the point where being “reasonable” just won’t cut it. Your move David.
While I disagree with giving Bell a “break” on the dropped pass (it’s the NFL, put up or shut up) y’all can’t be serious about backlash on Lombardi’s take on this. He’s basically saying the drop was bad, but what lost the game for us was poor defense and horrendous special teams. Period. Should have never came to needing the one catch, but it did, and Bell dropped it. I also agree with most everyone that Bell shouldn’t have been brought up… I wanted to see Conley or Cowing over him. I don’t think Bell is HIM. But quit bashing Lombardi when you clearly didn’t understand his full analysis of things.
When 6 of the 8 incompletions are DROPPED passes, that makes a difference too. Purdy would have had a QBR in the 140's or 150 if just 3 of those drops were converted to catches.
David I love your channel and think you are the best 49ers coverage guy, however I can’t disagree with you more on Ronnie Bell. The guy is a professional and should have made that easy catch. Had he done so, game would’ve been over. I don’t understand how this guy was on the field over Conley. I’m pretty sure Conley is 100x better than him and can make clutch catches has he did in the SB. With all that said, Bell needs to go cus he’s not worth a roster spot
This team will be alright. It's just going to take a bit to hit their stride this year, at least on offense and defense.Special teams just seems the same every year
Ronnie Bell is a professional. Idgaf who else is on the field. A ball hits a WR in the hands, he needs to catch it! He needs to get cut. Plenty of egregious holding by the Rams OL that wasn't called, but the 49ers still should have won. If they were ready for a fake punt and still blew it, that's even worse!
Get rid of the kicker sadly however it's the Niners fault they never focus on getting very good kickers been a long long time. Other teams spend the money for 60 yards or better kickers the Niners don't and they need to stop it and get a very good kicker, simple little things like that will go a long away and also players that can "catch " the ball .
Dropped catches, half of them should have been taken. The D is the issue. 1st game against the Jets we changed when it was required. Last 2 weeks adjustments haven't occurred and the D looks lost. Pass rush is a real worry. O-Line yesterday made life dangerous for Purdy. Yet he had a game which proves he's legit. No more questioning Brock's ability he's special.
I was practically begging for the 49ers to trade Aiyuk instead of capitulating to his demands, and now they are stuck paying a tier 3 WR tier 2 money. Shame on both John and Kyle! Not only that, they've set a very bad precedent. I am not going to go as far as saying their chances of getting deep into the post season now is non existent, but I'd be willing to say that their chances have diminished greatly over the last 12 months! The window is closing, and both Kyle and John are to blame, IMO. Kyle is a brilliant OC, but he's unable to properly evaluate talent, and that weakness has finally caught up to his roster.
Bell should be cut, plain and simple. Perhaps too Special Teams coach. The lack of any kind of adjustment for deep coverage, even an insurance policy by keeping somebody back, lies on Nick Sorensen.
Let's get the heart of it. No disrespect to Jennings, but we need to talk about lack of defense. No pass rush. No coverage in the secondary...the "improved" secondary according to most of the UA-camr experts. But make no mistake, the real problem is at the top.
I actually think that niners offense looked better being infused with youth rather than bogged down by our veteran stars. Brock doesn’t need any of them perhaps. In basketball terms, he’s capable of creating his own shot. And let’s be honest, Kyle’s reluctance to move on from Deebo & Aiyuk has possibly curtailed Jennings development. Are we sure Kyle knows who his best players are? I know you say he knows better than anyone else, but is it possible he’s stuck in the past - his judgment diluted as a result… a little too many Cabo vacays wit’ the boys - blurring the lines between friendship and being a coach. Also, the manner in which BA’s season is unfolding, the way the 49ers went about his contract negotiation was not a masterclass. You sign him much earlier, even at the same price they eventually signed him, & atleast you get a BA who is ready for the season. That may have been the only way to justify all that money spent. So far, it looks like the niners made that deal on their heels, opting into flushing a lot of money down the toilet. Additionally, maybe Kyle firing Wilks was a little too reactive… a way to quickly siphon blame & responsibility from the sputtering offense we got late in the superbowl. Because you could have had a decent DC in his 2nd year with Wilks, rather than people still learning the basics. Then again maybe it’s not the DCs at all, it’s just an old tired scheme filled with players who are no longer hungry. But maybe this post won’t age well, they’ll win the superbowl, and I’ll eat my crow - I’d love that.
You’re a bad analyst. You gloss over all of the shortcomings with favorable statistics. Attitude, determination, and hussle don’t show always show up on stats, but it sure shows on the scoreboard.
Purdy was good.
Jennings clearly distinguished himself as Niners WR1.
Aiyuk is a disgusting waste of money and roster space
Cowing had a unbelievable preseason but he plays Bell over him
And Conley is much more reliable and clutch than Ronnie Bust (I know he's a 7th rounder but he's even a bust for a 7th round)

Kyle never puts the best players on the field Bell over Cowing is laughable
He’s not playing on the field and dropping balls or committing penalties or blowing coverages.
There still must be a better receiver on the team than Ronnie Bell. Clearly all teams need depth, but especially the injury prone 49ers.

Everyone is making excuses for him. If this were a real sports market, the media would hang daddy's boy & ronnie can't answer the bell out to dry.
The 49ers need to have one of these guys on the team every year. Remember Dante Pettis they could be clones
Because Kyle can be stubbornly stupid sometimes
@@ightimmaheadout290 honestly, I though Bell was on the practice squad at the beginning of the season.
I think that Lombardi tries so hard to not call out individual players when they have it coming. He refused to call out Bell for dropping that crucial pass , don’t understand why he does that. He blamed the defense for him dropping that pass.
Yes. What do the players always say? “Next man up.” No excuses, catch the damn ball.
It shouldn't come down to one catch, the defence was poor, unable to get a stop, the Rams just ran through the defence like a knife through butter, big play after big play.

Here is exactly what is going wrong
Lets compare some things.
For this season (idgaf about their past)
Bosa salary and production vs TJ Watt salary and production
BA salary and production vs other top 10 WR salary and production (same with deebo compared to other 25m guy)
CMC salary and production (literally 0 just sitting on the bench) vs the next top 5 salary and production
Trent salary and production vs the next top 5 tackles
Kittle salary and production vs the other top 5 TE's
From where im sitting, there are about 4 people actually producing up to their salary, Brock, Fred, Jennings, Juice.
Great points, but I would dissagree that Juice is living up to his contract. According to PFF, his level of play is falling off a cliff.
@@brandondeakins564 actually I know from a former player what is going on and this is directly from him. Purdy and Jennings tho.
If the 49ers manage to win 10 games with their mediocre defense and lackluster special teams, that will be an overachievement. A depleted Rams offense dropped 27 points on the 49ers.
Nick Sorensen is finding out there's more to being a DC than just game planning for an offense.
I love how players who hold out for millions, then play bad then blame a cramp of some other excuse.

Your initial commentary was totally right. Bad defense - really horrendous special special team. Also having butter-fingers dropping passes I can catch. Why is the guy on the field. Shanahan either takes real action or moves on.
Because Stafford is clutch and has a rocket arm and Tutu Atwell has 4.2 speed while the overrated 49ers defense is the slowest in the NFL.
Special team smh
Very exciting to see BP and JJ do so well! 🙂
"not playing with maximum effort" sounds like "restricted output" which in a former job of mine was grounds for dismissal. come on, Brandon and Trent, wakey - wakey...
Defensive line and LBs were really bad down the stretch..just allowed Stafford to carve them up like a turkey
Not asking Ronnie bell to make that catch? Dumbest excuse. He’s on the team and was put in the game. Ball hit him perfectly in the hands. A hs kid can make that catch.
TWO! Bell missed two passes which hit him in the hands.
Thanks for the accurate and

Watch the all-22 and see how Alaric Jackson dominated Nick Bosa.
I said it during preseason. Don't pay BA. JENNINGS is a great WR that just needed the targets. I can't wait for Persall to get into the rotation .
We have New England,Arizona and Seattle and then KC. Our season starts now!! We have to get going now!!!!!!!!!
This was a hard loss to watch. Purdy/Jennings was exciting to watch....but defense squashed that.
Leading by 14 n still loss😢
Team is so disjointed, they can’t turn this around anytime soon .500 season, you heard it here first
No you aren't the first. Many.people have predicted that long before you.
What went wrong is that Shanahan can't finish games
He’s most dangerous when he has a double digit lead 😑
Purdy and Jennings balled out.... over priced Divas -> Bosa and Aiyuk..Bell -> cut him
Dropped catches, half of them should have been taken.
I just saw the chief's get away with pass interference in the end zone! Guess we watched different games or the chief's have a different set of rules
Listen to Grant Cohen then 🤡
Yeah he’s a homer and never takes ownership 😂
