I have tried some of these before. They work fairly well in soft materials such as pine. Mine didn’t work so well trying to remove a rusty bolt from a car engine. The pins bent and jammed onto the head of the bolt and ruined the socket. I had to clamp the bolt into a vise and beat the socket with a hammer for several minutes to separate them. Both were damaged beyond further use.

yea you're right I was putting together support beams at lowes and it stripped the attachment and bolt to completely nothing, me and the builder in the back just stopped and looked at eachother like wtf just happened lmao.
I have one of those. It is sometimes useful but not for anything really heavy like automotive bolts. My biggest complaint is it is way too shallow so it won't work on any nuts if too much of the bolt threads are already through. That's why on the commercial they mostly show it only on bolts and already started into soft wood.
I feel like that I would use this with the same mentality as my Leatherman Multi-tool, aka I wouldn't expect it to do the heavy work, especially without drilling a pilot hole first. Additionally, since in many cases proper torque and consistent tightness are important, that I would find more use for this sort of socket in the role of bolt/fastener removal, in a case where there were several fasteners of different sizes to remove. If I ran into a particularly stubborn bolt to crack, I would definitely use the proper fitting socket head, unless the bolt/nut were mangled, and I had no other choice.
