FWC officials investigate after deceased bobcat discovered in Safety Harbor neighborhood

- The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating after a bobcat was discovered dead in a Safety Harbor neighborhood. The homeowner found the bobcat hanging from a tree limb. Wildlife advocates with Birds in Helping Hands arrived to the Country Villas neighborhood on Timberview Drive last week.
Just call someone to relocate the cat. Not use poison!
They probably poisoned the rats and the bobcat ate the poisoned rat.
You can't "relocate" a cat! They come straight back

People are stupid. Never ever put poisins out for animals. Just let them pass through your yard, they are just passing through. I hate this when this happens. People also should not put chemicals on your yard, for get about perfect grass damn it!!!

Jeeeeze...you get so excited a bobcat..what you think they eat...smaller animals..cats .dogs..birds...so everyone suppose to let their homes be invaded by rats..their yards full of ticks and mosquitoes..ha..i have an idea....mind your own business...not everyone elses...yaaaaa.
People are stupid! They think other people put out rat poison to kill passing animals. People put out rat poison to kill rats that came INSIDE their homes, not just "passing by!"

Wouldn't it have been easier and safer to remove the deceased animal with either an aerial safety lift else a fire department safety ladder? The rope climbing maneuver seems to be an ancient procedure and not very safe.
It is used frequently by several arborists I know.
I have found animals will eat other dead animals that have been poisoned to death. My neighbors dogs threw up dead moles that were poisoned.
This is happening in many places but recently I saw this happening in Florida too its sad
Those animals are being killed by pythons and have tough enough of a time to survive.

I used to work in Safety Harbor and I saw bobcats frequently. That was about 12 years ago tho.

You don't know what you're talking about. Pest management is an extremely important part of being a homeowner and keeping a healthy ecosystem.
Agreed! Rodenticides affect our entire ecosystem and need to be banned.

@@Up2_nogoodI agree, but there are better ways than poisoning. CNR is one way for rodents . We have 4-6 CNR cats in our neighborhood and no one has seen a rodent in years …

This is why we NEED wildlife management, if animals are coming out of their territory and coming into neighborhoods it’s because they are Hungry and any small child is fair game to them. Over Hunting Prey animals will push these animals out of their territory. There needs to be a happy balance between both wildlife and the Human populations. Removing these animals is not enough. Don’t tell me we are destroying their habitats and that the animals were there first because Humans have been living in the wilderness long before Modern Bears and Mountain Lions.
Loss of habitat due to human expansion is very real. I have witnessed it from maine to florida. It does not just affect wildlife that live on the land when it is developed but also the animals that use that land as a migratory route for year round survival. Even insects are affected.
I built a house in maine and became friends with every species of life in that piece of land that lived there before me. All of them. Big tree spiders and ticks and... all of them. Spiders are ok, ticks gotta go. Then seasonally I got the honor of meeting the animals that visited the land based on food sources it provided them previously. Deer, bear, coons, possums.
Look at the land you buy for your new home before you build. Make a plan to recreate the food sources you destroy in time for the animals that need them even before you break ground.
Please don't be ignorant. You are not more important than the ecosystem, and you won't outlive it. Try not to fuck it up before you die.

We pick and choose which animals we care about, which ones we eat, which ones are pets, which ones are vermin. Think about that next time you cry about a meaninless cat.
But they wont care about cats & dogs being poisoned. Hope they actually investigate, but i have doubts. Someone is a chicken to do this.
