Sure, the Emmys can start recognizing UA-cam as a television platform; *OR,* YT could actually start giving a crap about its creators and giving them the props they deserve for their creative insight; instead of pandering to clickbait, drama, and content farms that use children and AI to exploit the algorithms meant to send decent content our way. I'm an epidemiologist specializing in Neglected Tropical Diseases and that parasite story made me unreasonably excited. They're what got me into public health in the first place - I could seriously talk about them for hours. Parasitic infection is a huge underlying factor in a lot of major global health crisis - they can worsen the effects of HIV and malnutrition (schistosomiasis can even make it more likely to contract and spread HIV), and exacerbate poverty by keeping people out of school and work for extended lengths of time. The efforts in eradicating guinea worm have been a huge step forward for public health. It's so nice to see NTDs and parasites spoken about in a global health context that goes past "ew tapeworms".

I'm glad this is getting more attention now because it destroyed my illusions about our healthcare system back in the '90's. I must have taken her to six or more doctors before getting help.

It is understandable, but they have a powerful platform and voice that regular people don't. If anything, those who have been outspoken before all of this should be praised. @@seatbelts365 but it isn’t incumbent upon them to risk their careers for the NEGLIGIBLE impact that hearing a celebrity speak about Palestine has. I care about Palestinians, which is why I crawl up my local congressmen’s ass about it. If these performative activists actually gave as many fucks as they say they do they’d be devoting that righteous energy to writing letters, phone calls, organizing demonstrations outside capital buildings, etc. but they won’t. Most of the people who get so incensed by celebrities “not doing enough” will refuse to do anything that requires actual work unless they can also make themselves look good doing it. These kids are even worse than the silent crowd honestly, because they make the rest of us look like twats and actively damage the real work we’re doing and our image a cohesive political movement rather than some stupid kids on the internet. Same goes for the “pro-Hamas” crowd. We’re trying to stop a whole ass genocide, not racist tweets, cancelling and deplatforming random people who aren’t involved at fucking all isn’t gonna fix shit.

Particularly when it's become such a big topic there's plenty of easy to access resources for learning. I think a key point you're missing is the people protesting this don't see this as a generic geopolitical issue or conflict but an active genocide. Nobody would've gotten a pass for having no opinion when the Nazi's were genociding people.
Blocking people on social media is a tool because it directly impacts their money and earning potential. She also supports a bill in the US that would really hurt marginalized communities by making it legal for states to ban websites if they contain material "Harmful to children". Not defined by the law but instead left up to state attorney generals.
Some things that have been included as potentially being bannable include information on mental health, history, medical information, civil rights, etc.
But the bill is advertised as "protecting the children" so she endorses it without bothering to do research. Her being out of touch is unfortunately not new.

Celebrities always win, they are rich and unaffected by literally any negative thing. Being cancelled isn't actually a real thing, it's just bullshit complaining from celebrities who don't like negative press (which is still positive for them overall). Like Phil said, they all still have millions of followers. The fact you feel bad for them is exactly part of what feeds their disconnect from reality. They don't have to speak out if they don't want to but their fans don't have to accept that if they don't want to. Celebs are not owed our attention or our permission for them to be neutral on everything.

I’m from Montana and I’ve grown up with seasonal forest fires. They’re good for the forests. But over the past few years they’ve been so much more than our environment can handle. It just keeps getting worse. When they burn hotter and bigger, nothing comes back. We loose our firefighters, homes, wildlife. The whole forest burns to a cinder, not just the underbrush. The lack of plants means when it rains there’s tons of erosion, fish kills, then run-off overwhelms rivers and streams causing spring flooding. It’s tragic. Thank you for covering this, Phil. It’s really important.

@@birdygamer5224 in many cases, it’s the heat that’s beneficial. For some pines, their cones only open with fire, so that’s how their seeds disperse, some things like morel mushrooms are only found in burn areas, and regular clearing out of undergrowth means the big trees are healthier and happier, with less competition. The undergrowth usually bounces right back with a smaller fire, and the crowns of the big trees are untouched. But not anymore. Now it’s all toast and ash, way too hot.

I'm originally from Lithuania so I got to see the portal exhibit there when I went home to visit. I think because both cities are much smaller and because of the difference in culture compared to both the US and Ireland, there probably haven't been many, if any, incidents similar to the ones occuring with the NYC and Dublin portal. If you look at social media (socmed) as just that then sure. But social media for regular users is mainly entertainment, ways to pass the time.
On the other hand, social media for celebs or brands is a huge marketing opportunity. Both need each other to prosper, but celebs/brands have more to lose.
It was celebs that started to use socmed for issues, feminism, metoo, exposing toxic Hollywood culture and other serious issues like deportation. The fans or regular consumers helped amplify their voices to bring change to those issues.
I think it's only fair to expect celebs to reciprocate the gesture. Because the fans were the ones to supported the brands celebs created and helped it become successful. It's a symbiotic relationship.

We are supposed to get rain the next few days, so hopefully that will help, the wind did die down today, which has been very helpful. Ok so maybe im just be old but what are celebrities actually going to do? Like they can speak up on the issue but what power do they have to actually stop the violence?. Shouldnt this energy be directed at world leaders?

Sure, but why follow them anyway? Block away, forever, even if they speak out.

Taylor swift is the reason there's a case against the live Nation monopoly AND AI revenge porn. I don't like the woman but you can't deny she has serious sway

UA-cam wanting the Emmys to award creators rings hollow to me. I've been working on my channel for almost 10 years and they keep slashing ad revenue and make it harder than ever to make UA-cam a sustainable business.

I've soon been on YT for 20 years and I've only got 1.5k followers.
The changes they've done to the algorimth continually screws me over by having any video I made plateu after a few days like it hits this invisible ceiling.
Just flatouts completely. It's ridiculous. It's completely killed any interest I have in many any more videos.
Especially when it's a video you can see is on the rise that gets like 800 views in a day and suddenly, _makes the cartoon throat cut sound effect_ it just hits a brick wall.

The energy spent on getting celebrities "on side" should be spent on politicians who have actual power 👀
