Uncluttered...interesting term. Sounds like a judgment to me. I think you should listen to the original again. Garbarek's solo is much less "cluttered" than this one (although I like both), and Jarrett's playing is I(as always) beyond soulful. That said, I like this version very much. This should be a standard. It is as beautiful as a Handel harp concerto, perfect in its shimmering innocence and depth. Playing Tin Pan Alley songs decade after decade is fun and comfortable like old slippers, but makes jazz into a historical oddity rather than the vibrantly evolving, unnamable thing ("jazz"? what's that?) it was until...about Wynton Marsalis' entry. Notice how Ken Burns' series ends in the early '60s, as if jazz as an art form was arrested then, even though he made the series almost 40 years later, and Wynton pontificates (lovingly) on the history but not the ongoing evolution of the music, e.g. Jarrett, McCoy, Metheny, McLaughlin, Chris Potter, (OK he came later), etc. See Jarrett's liner notes on Inside Out for a scathing critique on this .

Keith has another original with country in the title that I've been trying to remember the title of for a very long time. If anyone knows it or knows how I can find it please let me know as I am a jazz pianist that loves that song and loves playing it but would be embarrassed to play it's in front of an audience without knowing the title! And this tune is lovely too.

Suena bien. Felicidades a los dos. Sin embargo, en mi opinión hay detalles que hacen mejor el original. Ahí van un par de ellos: cuando el saxo soprano expone la melodía al principio, en la versión original el piano apenas lo dobla, y si lo hace apenas se nota. En esta versión la intensidad es la misma y quita todo el protagonismo al saxo que debería hacer su entrada a lo grande. A mi modo de ver, doblar el saxo le otorga demasiado peso lo que, en sí mismo, constituye en tema delicado, simple en el buen sentido, honesto en la claridad de formas y lejos de cualquier artificio sonoro. Para terminar, otro detalle que arruina un poco lo dicho anteriormente. Ese growling del saxo soprano escapa a mi comprensión. El growling es un recurso estilístico típico de otros estilos más agresivos, como el rock, el blues...pero aquí lo veo gratuito y no aporta nada a la honestidad sonora y cristalina de un tema que evoca claridad y sencillez evocando paisajes bellamente mundanos, el retorno a la esencia en su concepción más antropológica. Recordad que las cosas aparentemente simples, son, en muchos casos, increiblemente complejas. De ahí que versionar Country me parezca en cierto sentido temerario. Gracias.
@@helenaville5939 The bass is 'required' throughout the entire song, however. And a pianist's left hand is not the same as a double-bassist, I am sure you would agree. Therefore not having an acoustic bass part in this version makes the version a bit lacking compared to the original.
