This song was HUGE in the '80's!!!
Sylvester did it before anyone else. He was just out there and unapologetic. He was so adventurous with his music as with his appearance. Awesome dance music that still holds up today.
"He was so adventurous with his music as with his appearance" Big LOL. The music he sang was made by PATRICK COWLEY, not SYLVESTER. Sylvester only gave his voice. For God's sake, make some investigation and do not say rubbish ...
Patrick Cowley was at the forefront and a mastermind when it came to the synthesizer sound. I recall so vividly going to clubs in the early 80s when sylvester and Cowley's, other great dance and high energy music was played. The pulsating sound and bass line and lighting on the dance floor were electrify transcending the partygoers to another place and time. It was a carefree ans grand party! There will never ever again be anything like it.
mASTERMIND?? LOL what are you talking about???! This is a big fat guy in a dress! lol John, for everyone's sake, I'm glad that there will never be anything like this, ever EVER again! This is the cringiest thing I have ever seen or heard.....and the comments are awesome! lol : This man is AMAZING!! LOL. My favorite comment is :
Sylvester was such a beautiful person and amazing singer. the world has lost a great voice. thanks a lot for this reaction.! lol. someone actually wrote that! LOL. lets be real here, a big fat guy, in a dress with red hair, thats what this is! its not beautiful or wonderful! All i can think is: Imagine how bad this fat sweaty guy in a dress smells!
I've loved this since the 80's, and my daughters love it too. They just told me they played it for their friends at a college party!
Sylvester was a trailblazer.
Amazing vocals and a gay man who said this is me deal with it.
Love it.
Patrick Cowley is the god of Electronic Music. This man is amazing!
Sylvester was such a beautiful person and amazing singer. the world has lost a great voice. thanks a lot for this reaction.
A TOP FIVE dance hit of all times!
Queen Sylvester was doing it before the children knew what it was.....LEGENDARY 10'S HUNNY
When this song started thumping in the club...EVERY man was on the floor! Defined the best of gay clubs!
the man who produced this music and more music by Sylvester was a Pioneer in synthesizer dance music. His name was Patrick Cowley, and he died in his early thirties of AIDS
Everyone knows Sylvester from the clubs back in the day. Great energy!
Thank goodness for the Disco 12inches with all the extended version made for the clubs. Radio versions were about 3mins. But most disco 12in are over 6min to an entire album side of 20mins. When songs had long intros, middle break and the outro.
This song is still fresh ,Sylvester was gone to the Hospital for visiting Patrick Cowley, They decide there a production together, so Sylvester wrote lyrics and Patrick composed music, the result was Do ya wanna Funk ,maybe the most famous song for them, listen and dance It .
Patrick Cowley produced euphoric records... Absolutely amazing this is the point where you can literally see the transition from disco to new wave/synthwave happening here and elements of dance. Incredible time of evolution in our music history!
Not only euphoric. He did some brooding, lay back, and dark tracks too like: Deep Inside You; Mocking Bird Dream; I Feel Love Remix;
@divineaura22 I believe the transition you’re talking about is from Disco to “High Energy.” That is the name the genre that emerged after 70’s Disco died out. It’s basically Disco, but with synthesizers instead of strings and horns. And the BPMs are about 130 or higher. I Feel Love is considered to be the first (or one of the first) High Energy songs.
@@alexcncmacsalcar7324 😊🤗
I had this 12" and the album. Even at 18 i knew this was great music.
OMG- one of my best friends whose deejayed for decades will refer to Sylvester as gospel. WAY ahead of his day with no mercy shown to the dance floor!! Your reaction was PRICELESS- exactly as it should be to the mighty Sylvester!!
Patrick was the godfather of EDM. The industry has accepted as the greatest remix in history his remix of "I feel love". The remix is magical, raw and jaw dropping. And he did it in the 70's, mad respect. Please do a reaction on the full remix (it's on you tube)
I can only speak about gay clubs, but he was our dance goddess. In San Francisco, where he lived we saw him many times live. Still dancing to all his work today! I’m a boomer and we new exactly what he was singing about! lmao. I think the song was also in Risky Business.
All I did in 1980 to 1989 was 💃 ❤dance. That was my workout and hobby.
Please React to Sylvester & 2 Tons of Fun: "Disco Heat".
The first song I heard playing when I walked into my first gay bar! Such a memory rush!! This is my favorite Sylvester song and so are all his others! 😝 Saw him live at a dance bar (then named “Heaven”) in Houston-before AIDS took him and his beautiful talent from us.
Sylvester paved the way for the ru-Paul’s of our generation. He passed away far too soon. A little fact... the pic of the “falling man” from 9/11 was said to be Sylvesters brother. Unfortunately, drag was not publicized back then and if this song came out today, it would be highly recognized. Rip Sylvester
Try Divine “Walk Like A Man” or “You Think You’re A Man”
Looooooooooe this tune!!!! 80’s aerobics again!!!!!!
Also, if this didn’t make you get up and dance, you are dead.
Patrick Cowley was on his death bed when he produced (this track it took such along time to go this in those days) it was the last moment for his genius and a very fitting finale🔥🔥🔥
Great "Classic" gem! It makes you wanna move! YES! This is the Club/Remix that they played in the Clubs!! Thanks Dereck!
The first time I heard Sylvester was in the movie Trading Places.
Me too and for years I thought he was saying "do you wanna f**k" lol
Yaas exactly I mentioned that this song in the party scene.
The bass is a synth. The chord stab is a staple of back then.
Born to be alive, Don't leave me this way, and this song defined Disco
Great disco music!! This is the type of music that kept us on the dance floor😃
I DJed from 82 to 87. This was a guaranteed floor filler every night of the week. 130 BPM could play it at 127 up to 134 and it was so versatile with all of those drum breaks. Great song!
The dance floor would get jam packed, you could not even move
I have his greatest hits cd..Sylvester had a voice and could get down!
I can't listen to this song without thinking about that scene intruding Places where Eddie Murphy is upset about people not using coasters at his party.😂
Thank you for showing the respect that they deserve.
Who dropped cones on my floor? Party at Billy Ray Valentines x
This song was a head of its time outstanding! Party at Billy Rays if ye know what I mean ...Yeaaah
I do work out to this song as well as Patrick Cowley/Paul Parker "Right On Target", along with Patrick Cowley's "Megatron Man", "Menergy", "I Wanna Take You Home"
Menergy by Patrick Cowley is EPIC!!!
@@robertlukacevic1811pure Hi Energy.
This song slaps SO 👏 GODDAMN 👏 MUCH.
It is a CHOON!
This version is actually a remix of the original. But, the original doesn't disappoint either. I met Sylvester in a small club in Santa Fe, NM. He was very cordial and I got his autograph. Those were the days. Excellent Dance Music. Love it!!!!
Thank you for appreciating the 80s music. Makes people like me in our 50s emotional, that our favourite music is still loved and receive a reaction like yours. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! 💕💕💕
you can't feel this on a floor dance on that time 😍
One of the best dance songs ever!
Cow bells yes very '80's!
This makes me remember Slyverter performing this song at Studio 54 in 1982. I didn't even know he was going to be there that night. I fell in love with Sylvester when he performed "Disco Heat" on the Merv Griffin show. I didn't hear "Disco Heat" on the radio, but when I went on a high school trip to France, in 1979, the song played at a disco we went to in Nice and I was so excited about it. I love both songs.
The first for me was = You dropped a Bomb on Me. And the Pointer sisters were really big..
I was dancing to it in the 80s! Beyond, f=d up and doing rush!
1 meaning of Funk is the state of being unhappy and without hope
Dereck, Someone else mentioned Teena Marie from the 80s and I think you would love her! The things she could do with her voice, you won't believe! Another star gone too soon...
Here in San Diego, Sylvester performed at Mr. Dillon currently Rich's. Another great song is "Disco Heat" with 2 tons of fun, they were the Weather Girls in "lt's Raining Men". Peace ✌️ Gary 😊
Silvester shoUld be recognized as an
important artist ..his voice his charisma and Style was qmazing...qn Idol. An angel
Work Ms.Sylvester ,,work the trade😘😘😘😘
work it sister!!!

@@DereckReacts love your videos Derek
YESS! It was still in my pocket as a DJ when I started at a gay club in 1984. Luv it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
YASS!!!! Thank you! Love Sylvester. You’re reaction is priceless
Great reaction! ... RIP Sylvester 🙏🖤
Great Reaction ! There was a whole lot of funkin going on back in the day with Sylvester! So hot on the dancefloor. So glad i was there to enjoy it!
Aquí no hay brecha generacional. La música de Silvester es para todos. Thanks for the positive reaction!
The music is not from Sylvester, is from Patrick Cowley --- give the real author the credit ...
So adorable watching you experience this track. The 7 inch mix is the hero really. Im old enough to have been hearing this on the radio in Australia where it was a smash.
The songs used to be long because it was supposed to play on the clubs, so it's quite the same thought we put on electronic music in a way.
All my love to Sylvester...
So many good times to this song!!! May Sylvester be blessed in the hereafter for what he gave us!!
Looooove this song! You are right, this is a masterpiece 🥰
It was very infectious
Sylvester had red hair.. Annie had orange!! LOL OMG this song at some point it makes me think at the beginning of the High Energy era songs that was nailed by SAW with Dead Or Alive : You Spin Me Round Like a Record!! And Give us Venus by Bananarama in 86. It's long for the DJ to have time to mix with the next one... Have you tried that 45 minutes long Donna Summer song?? LOL
What fun! Not sure if I've heard that one before. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! There are some great interviews with documentary-style footage out there about Sylvester on UA-cam. He truly broke through some major barriers.
From the movie 'Trading Places' :P
Who put their kools on my floor!
Sylvester one of a kind
Love this track. It's an epic floor burner! Please please please could you react to The Pointer Sisters 'Dare Me'. It's so underrated and needs some exposure as one of their best tunes.
Yes, in every club!
HAHAHAHA so cool you couldn´t resist! hahahah
disco got polished in the 80s to become dance/house. patrick cowley has many anthems ! dance club
tracks are very long songs not the radio versions. do you wanna funk...play on words : ) This track was probably one of the biggest in clubs in the year it came out for a very long time.
I love you😭💜⛓️ YES!! You react to all the jams
I love Sylvester! And "You Make Me Feel" is my favorite from back in the day. No summer in San Francisco was complete without Sylvester leading the fun! Thank you for your reaction. I follow you for your Dimash reactions 👏🏼 Someone mentioned Teena Marie, yes. Also, anything by Sade and Terence Trent Darby (Sign your Name).
Sylvester un grande de la música Disco / High Energy
A like from me since you really appreciate Sylvester and have become fairly knowledgeable. One has to be dead not to move when Sylvester comes on. Lol
Super cool hit. Don’t even remember it though. Priceless reaction from you. Just love it.
Take a listen to a group called... Lime... Babe, We're Gonna Love Tonight
A guaranteed 'floor filler' - this track and 'You Make Me Feel Mighty Real' were/ are the epitome of disco! Am grateful to have grown up in the seventies amongst all these wonderful tracks.
God! Thank you for doing this for Sylvester
Patrick did two amazing soundtracks for porn films and his 15 minute remix of I Feel Love prior to his death in 1982 is sublime, he was only 32 when we lost him to AIDS related symptoms, Sylvester was so ahead of the times, he just didn't care and lived his life as he wanted
cornelius washington hay cheers, have it on order but Covid has delayed everything, how are you
I still have this on vinyl 45
@Michael Asay if i could post a pic of the cover here id show u
Why wouldn't you/he? I've got this and everything else on vinyl. It's not unusual if you love pop music. You hang on to your treasure.
@@harripalomaki8796 to be honest its down to storage space i have 800 vinyl 45's and same in cd's, i don't want to leave too much junk for my family to sort at end of my days...so if someone would make a respectable offer id let the vinyls go...hoping they would be used and treasured as much as i have. They were mostly collected 1979 to 83 but have a few rare ones in amount the collection.
@@eggy1962, I do hear thee, old chap. I just see so many reactions saying "I still have..." as if it's some kind of a miracle. And I understand the storage space dilemma. The walls of my studio flat are covered with vinyl, CDs, DVDs and books because those are the things I love. I've never cared for minimalism in home decoration. Makes for better acoustics as well! As for life after death, I have bequeathed my vinyl fortune to a few trusted friends.
Classic effing tune amazing still now
Un cantante fuera de serie, adelantado a su época
Hey Dereck! The first time I heard this song was in the movie "Trading Places" with Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. I was immediately blown away. I had a feeling you would love this too! I can't remember if I already recommended this to you, but you should check out Kim Wilde's "Kids in America". Heavy early 80's synth. If you don't already know it, I think you'll really like it. ~Chris
Hello my friend. I always follow with joy your videos from Italy! A hug.
And one final track most agree this is one of the best House tracks of the 90"s De'Lacy Hideaway Deep Dish remix Hope you enjoy and hopefully review
Flawless Song
This is a song when the music and arrangements around it is clearly better then the vocals, but as a whole,it works out good because the song itself is that good...the melody, the instruments, the arrangements...it overcomes all other deficiencies here..
Poured so much sweat in the underage clubs in the 1980s this and so many similar Hi-NGR songs! Europhoria without drugs.
That was Patrick Cowleys last Song, after this tune he died :( He was one of the first to die of AIDS. He never found out the name of the disease :(
Finally!!! I think you are the first to react to Do you wanna funk!!!
And ofcourse it was something sexual!! Leave the N out of funk and what do you get??!! It was a huge hit in my birth country the Netherlands yes.
This takes me back to some wonderful nights at the Trocadero Transfer in San Francisco in the early 80's....such crazy good times with all my gay 'boyfriends'....the Troc was one of those places where you'd dance all night with your sunglasses on....until the sun came up...! Thank God they had after hours :)
Trading Places brought me here. Does that make me basic?
The 'lasers' at around 8:50 were so you could finger point shoot who you fancied on the dancefloor....good days 👉👉
I swear, my last request is Use It Up Wear it Out by Pat and Mick. This was big in 1990. By that time my dancing days were about over and work took over. This got EVERYBODY on the dance floor, especially in Nashville, where I went out!
Hi Dereck l had my nightclub I'm Melbourne Australia and l called it sylvesters who was my favourite dance singer along with Donna summers l got him to open my night club in Melbourne so l booked him as other places could not afford him so canceled their booking as he was there for the Sydney Gay Mardi Gra and performed at warehouse party after the Gay Mardi Gra. I was so lucky to get booking as a really great start for my nightclub sylvester opens sylvesters . He was a really nice guy to talk to and very kind in contract his favourite drink was gin and provided hair stylists as well hotel and l hired the ex Governor Generals rolls Royce for his transportation where ever he wanted to go. Disco music in those days was always long versions short versions was for radio only but night clubs they were the long versions as DJs needed to mix music to create an atmosphere of non stop music with different artists on the dance floor you felt like you was on 7th heaven AWSOME. Anyway cheers for now l ❤️your channel Maurice From Melbourne Australia.
Yes its definitely dressed up sex lyrics. I think thsts part of the fun of it to be honest. Its very direct lyrically and club orientated.
템포 좋고 춤추기 좋다
디스코 뮤직~^^♡
black souls voicies are unique. I was in my early teens and Sylvester songs already captured me
Hey stud, take a listen to the Bee Gees - Too much Heaven. You'll ❤ it.
@Michael Asay hey 🖐 what's up 😎
