Pefect timing on this video, my NW-S203F is arriving some time this week and a replacement battery arriving shortly after that. Thank you so much for this! Since youtube keeps deleting my reply, Auction yahoo japan > use a middleman like buyee or fromjapan etc > prices vary between 8000¥ to 30000¥.
auctions yahoo japan. You'll just need to check back every now and then, price varies between 8,000¥ to upwards of 30,000¥. You'll also need to use a middleman like buyee, FromJapan, etc if you're planning to buy this while being out of Japan.
just did mine, after watching your video I told myself hell nah I dont' have a patience enough for this, It took me 15 min only think is plastic cover screen doesn't glue back Im gonna ise super glue or something. Thanks for video!
I think I watched your videos, as I bought one when I was younger, spent all my money from summer paying that thing off. Brand New, in the box, never opened. Unobtainium. Worked for maybe a month or two before the battery failed? Got a new battery for it, have never installed it, asked around, but was too scared to ever do it as well they are expensive. Persona 3 Reload came out and people are paying tons for it! Plus, I like the way it works. Maybe this will encourage me to tackle this?
People who own the Walkman are blessed. I want one but i feel like the chance of getting it is getting slimmer and slimmer as it’s no longer in production :/
My prayers have been answered! I can finally fix mine now by following your video! Do you know how to fix the top dial part you use? Mine is a little bit loose.
Yes the screen can be replaced but the only source is old used sony mp3 players that use the same screen and they are expensive and equally as old and many are already dim if not dead. It's kinda a moot point as these early oled screens just dont live very long due to limitations in material and manufacturing of the time.
@waffletonjimmy9753 the bean looking ones and the nw-e00x also use the same display. The mz-rh1 himd recorder uses two of these displays but good luck finding one with good working displays for under $500. The problem is given the age of all these models, almost all 2nd hand screens are dimming and dying by now so any replacement will only be temporary and inevitably die.
Thanks for posting this. I would love to do it myself, but I don't have the time or nerves to do it. Do you offer a repair service and how much would it be? Thanks.
Fricking hell, just what I wanted, I think I have a dead screen, I did replace the battery but... it still didn't "turn on". Thing only reacts if I connect with the USB to the PC. Any ideas on this?
@@sjm4306same thing for me. Battery replaced and the screen won't turn on, but I can access the files when plugged into the computer. (Also need to keep pressure on the USB cable or it disconnects)
Looks like they are all gone, not a single seller I could search for has them anymore. Maybe they will come back in stock in the future or maybe they are gone for all of eternity idk.
One question, how do I make sure the polarities are not inverted. I don't know too much about the subject, but how do I make sure that the polarities are correct? Based on the image from your NW-S202F video; the grey wire should be above the black wire, but I just wanted to make sure. If it is inverted on mine, how do I go about fixing it? I believe I might have ordered from the same company since it is also from Germany.
Easiest way is to compare to the original battery you are pulling out of the player, the order of the red and black wires coming out of the connector must match. If it's inverter you will have to snip the wires with enough length to spare so you can splice them back together in the correct polarity (and make sure to insulate them of course so they don't short).
@@sjm4306 Thank you! I tried looking up on Google/UA-cam on ways to insulate the wires back together, would electrical tape work? I'm not too knowledgeable on this entire subject so I want to make sure since I don't want to break my walkman.
Electrical tape would work, just may be too thick. I use kapton tape for this kind of stuff as it's thin, sticks well and the added benefit of being heat resistant.
I usually start at one corner with a very thin metal spudger to create a gap and while heating to soften the adhesive you can slowly work one side completely up. Then do the other side till the lens is separated. Be very careful as it's easy to mar the plastic lens and anodized metal body.

Great and interesting video. You did a great job. I would be nervous too, with devices like this…so much can go wrong.
thanks for the video! was great to listen to while i contemplate fixing my usb nw-e015 walkman with a cooked battery hehe
Love your videos man! Also, I finally picked up a new Old Stock Gameboy Micro from Japan! It works great.
The master at work! 😀

You can try carefully bending the spring a bit tighter.
Do you know if the screens can be replaced? Ive found listings for the player but it seems the screen is either extremely dim or it doesn't work.

do you have a link for the battery you bought as a replacement?@@sjm4306

@sjm4306 what do you think of the NW's form factor? Very handy?

I'll have to check if the seller I bought the battery from still has any left for sale. In the mean time shoot me an email at sjm4306@gmail.com

The early oled screens in these mp3 players are notorious for getting super dim and/or just completely dying over time.
What replacement battery did you put in? Do you have the link to the store where I bought it? I can't find a similar battery in my country = (
Looks like the seller I bought from ran out. This is the last one I can find: ebay.us/Zrb64D
Is there anywhere I can sent mine somewhere I don’t think I’m competent enough to fix mine
If you are in the US I fix these. Shoot me an email at sjm4306@gmail.com if interested.
Hello. I have the same exact kind of mp3 player and was wondering if you could replace my battery as well
Not sure if you were the person who emailed me this morning but if not shoot me an email at sjm4306@gmail.com.
Hi, can you give me some more detailed guides in 12:20 step, please ?.
Hey I'm stuck here too, what did you do?
How long is the battery life during use?
Where did you find the battery? I found one link on ebay, but they ran out of batteries

Sounds like it needs a new battery
Im probably the 100th person whos asked but are you still offering replacements for people? I do not have the dexterity for this lol
Yep, just shoot me an email at sjm4306@gmail.com
Hey for the blow dryer did you use a specific one?
Just a regular one, not like you need to get it super hot or anything.
@@sjm4306at what level would you recommend it?
@leaftart start on low but if you need more heat turn it higher but make sure to keep the hairdryer moving and not just in one spot.
OH, perfect that you are here! I used the blowdryer on the body but I'm not sure where I'm supposed to use the pry at mind helping me?

I had to puncture the battery with a needle from the usb port because it was so spicy that it was not coming out.
