- The Beatle’s sold-out concert at Shea Stadium will forever go down in history as their most popular show. There is, however, another band to not only sell out Shea, but they did so in a mere 72 hours. Grand Funk Railroad’s front man, Mark Farner, remembers playing this concert and performing during a time of national turmoil.
Great memories of riding with my brother in his 68 Camaro, listening to Grand Funk, Guess Who and etc. Those were some of the best days in my life💙Love 70's ROCK! And my big brother :)
GRAND FUNK RAILROAD!!! THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME!!! SAW YOU GUYS AT THE BOSTON GARDEN IN 1974!! WHAT A SHOW!! I WAS 14!!! STILL LISTENING TO YA AT 61!!! FUNK WILL NEVER DIE, UNTILL I DIE!!!
I'm A Combat Vet And I Still Love You Guys!!! Thanks for Supporting US!!! Sfc. D. L. Ryan 7th SF. GROUP Airborne Ret.
Still listen to you today and I just turned 65…love your music!
My first concert! Saw the "American Band" tour at the Omni in Atlanta, GA 1973! Didn't get stoned or even drink, just got off on the music! Never forget the show, or the drum solo! Went straight out & bought the 8-Track. Good times!
Me Too great Show 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Me too! The Omni! Damn…I saw so many shows there. From Aerosmith to Clapton and Sonny and Cher and Elvis!
I loved the 70s!! To me that was some of the best music ever made and Mark was right in the middle of it!!
Mark Farner is the man!
Mark Farner is my Papa's friend!
Saw Grand Funk in Mobile, Ala in the 70’s and being a keyboardist, still own my C3 I purchased in 1969. I can still play Flight of the Phoenix, Some Kind of Wonderful and We’re an American Band
Loved grand funk and still do. Never saw a bad show .
Great to hear from you Mark. Grand funk was and still is the greatest band that I have ever heard. I listen to it all the time growing up and I still listen to it and my favorite is American band. You are the man and good luck to you man and I am so sorry that you got screwed the way you did but like someone else said the band is the one losing out not you.
I couldnt have said it any better.Well said,I agree
Grand Funk was one of the greatest bands ever! I just discovered them and now I can't stop listening! So many great live videos on UA-cam. I have to go find a vinyl album of theirs now.
me too mate im obsessed! was only 6 when they took the world so im catching up...awesome! and i love mark!!!!!
@@catherinethompson547 - I'm with you but I started when 1969 when I was 10 years old. GFR was my intro to Rock and Roll. Them and the James Gang.
@@Tron-Jockeyanother great 3 piece band
Mark should be in the Rock n Roll HOF!!!!!
Grand Funk Railroad. Without Farner, it's not grand. But, there's much funk. After Farner was railroaded.
Outta Sight 70's man!
Mark"s lyrics and image was spot on for the time..
What a great man you are , thank you for who you are !! ❤🇺🇸😉✌
One of the greatest bands I ever heard. Inside looking out.
Mark, I’m sorry the guys betrayed you but they are the ones losing. Let them use some fake phony replacement creep who won’t fool or satisfy anybody. You wrote and sand the best songs and you still can. Now you will get credit for your work.
Bruce Kulic is great though
@@jeffmcdonald9004 maybe, but he didn't write and sing those awesome songs, did he?
I agree ,Bruce is talented, but He,ll never sing the GFR hits like the original front man Mark Farner.Nor his guitar playing matches his.Mr.Farner is Grand Funk, everyone knows that.
@@juanespinosa8064 I'll give Bruce Kulick some props though for his great playing on Diana Ross's "Mirror Mirror"
More!
cank chibooboo...that was the first thing I learned to play on drums. who knew it was all farner's idea?
met Mark in the late 80s, cool unassuming all around nice guy.
GFR belongs in the RRHF, without a doubt
Absolutely
Grand Funk Rail Road, Three Dog Night, Canned Heat, Johnny Winter, and Ten Years After are all deserving of R&R Hall of Fame. These 5 are not in, and then you look at some that are and it is mind boggling.
Mark, Don and Mel you rock!!
This song is BADASS👍🏼😎👍🏼
Everyone always mentions that the Beatles took 2 weeks to sell out Shea. They never mentioned that tickets were sold through the mail.
Mark Farmer we're an American Band was the Song in 1973 at FT Benning I was 12. You guys rock
Seen you in ATL you Guys were Great 👍
Mark Farner, God bless ya man!! You came out as the better man. Shameful those other 2, did ya dirty. You sir, were GFR to me, and the millions of other fans.. You were The G.O.A.T. 🎸🎸☮️🎶📻
MARK FARNER super FUNK!!!!!❤❤❤❤
you mean, I'm Mark Farner, and I am Grand Funk Railroad. F... those other guys!
Notgiven Notgiven same with John Fogerty
@@daveg4236 and Roger Waters
GOOD ONE!!
@@daveg4236 yeah. Exactly
@@paulyoda4576no. Pink Floyd is def the sum of its parts. Syd Barrett, David Gilmour and the other members were all integral parts. What’s Comfortably Numb with Gilmour’s legendary solo?
Greatest live band ever! Saw them 4 times in the 70's and the last time in the late 90's before their final breakup. I have my Don Brewer autographed Red Album displayed in my office!
Too short. I was hoping to hear more from Mark. He is always like a big brother to me.
R.I.P. Sweet Connie.
Marks looking in real good shape for his age. The fact he didn't hit the "additives" through the late 60 -70 period clearly shows.
Yes indeed.that song brought the party 🎉🤩😁👏👏👏👏
Guys I need more cowbell !!!
That was my Fathers time, stationed at Bowling green and had friends at Kent state university. He always told me that was a bad time. I pray we never see that again.
WE STILL LOVE YOU!
God Bless you, Mark. It makes me weep to think what those two backstabbing creatures have tried to do to you!!!!!!
where did gfr and jimi hendrix play an outdoor festival on staten island ny. '69 or '70. where???? i'm from there but don't recall it.... mark mentioned it on a utube video.
Don't ever underestimate the power of a cowbell
It ain't Grand and it ain't Funk without Farner.
Vinyl gave way to the 8 track and cassette? Oh come on. Vinyl didn't start really giving way until the CD. I was buying records and even 45s way into the 80s. Even as kids we knew you could wear out a record if you played it long enough, but a factory tape would start to hiss after a few plays, and we weren't even audiophiles. This was clear to everyone. We would buy LPs, and dub that onto a tape for the car. We would use something like the best TDK cassette tape...which would never jam or start to hiss after a few plays. 8 tracks were sturdier but were replaced with tapes...and even 8 tracks were mostly used in cars for the portability aspect. Yes, both were used in homes, but the factory stuff in no way compared to the LP.
First concert I ever saw
Hey, me too, 1972 🤘🏼☮️
Mark Farner is Grand Funk Railroad
Yes you are right mark that song was the party the American Party !
This guy is an American treasure
Don Brewer doesn't like this video.
Humble pie 30 days in the hole great song
America won that one, and the British had to eat some "humble pie". I wish I had won the disagreement with my Mom, when I was 9yrs old, and wanted to grow my hair like Mark. But I did win the one where I wore blue jeans & a tie-dye tee, out with her in the Summertime. I know it sounds silly, but it was a big deal back then. Most kids wore shorts in the Summer. I was an oldest child, and both parents were Southern Baptists. I think they just worried about me going astray.
Comparing GFR to the Beatles is insane.
The only comparison being made here was the way they sold out Shea stadium faster.
MARK FARNER WAS GRAND FUNK.
GFR a melhor banda americana de Hard Rock
The band that doesnt need more cowbell.
To me "We're an American Band' changed the sound of Grand Funk. Then Locomotion came along....they just weren't the same. That did it for me.
GFR is nothing without Mark Farner.
WAIT WAS THAT ALL? UGHHHH
FLINT MICHIGAN 🤟🤟
Ron Burgandy was the balls. That's all i can hear with this narrator
Todd Rundgren & GFR!
How about bloodrock, capital records answer to grandfunk
Coulda used more cowbell on We’re An American Band
The guy on bass looks like Fredo.
I woulda stayed in the gym Mark .
I ♥️ Radio is the worst thing that happened to this Country
So true. Corporate radio blows....
Billy Ray Cyrus called. He wants his mullet back.
The Beach Boys are not beachboys it’s Mike love only sometimes Al jardine but it’s Mike love just him not Carl not Brian Wilson or Dennis but Grandfunk are around but not Grandfunk it’s Don and Mel band but mark Farner is who we identify with as the real founder of Grandfunk railroad
THE UNIVERSAL WAR
I wish everyone wasn’t so 100% sure Mark Farner did nothing wrong and the other two did everything wrong. I don’t think that’s how it was. They broke up, it’s complicated.
I agree with whoever said they should be in the RRHF. I mean, come on. No disrespect, but Abba, Neil Diamond, Bobby Darin, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight & Pips, Tupac, Whitney Houston, Dolly Pardon!!? No Styx. No GFR. The RRHF is worse than a joke.
So,GFR made $Ms off of Were An America Band and Connie Hamzy. Did any of you dks visit her in the hospice? Any contribute to her funeral? No.
I miss sweet sweet Connie...8/21/21 R.I.P💐💐✝️C.S.McLeod...I was curious about that too!!
Sold their rights to their publishing and cost them millions.
I'll take Humble Pie over them any day!!
Завидую молча всем тем кто в те далекие времена смог вживую наслаждаться такими грандами рока.Нам в СССР это было смертельно запрещено!В какой же поганой стране мы жили!Кругом во всем одни запреты!
Guys I need more cowbell!!!
