  • Alzheimer's & Dementia Nursing Home Residents - Our Forgotten Elderly is a reminder of just how fortunate most of us are and a hope that this video will inspire you to spend valuable time with our elderly. We created Christmas Gift Bags for residents in an Alzheimer's and Dementia unit of a local nursing home. Often times, the elderly have no family close by to visit or family won't make time. It takes so little effort to make a lonely person feel special. Christmas is the perfect time to start but remember the forgotten year round. Our elderly need our help. Most of us think of small children at Christmas who come from less fortunate families but few of us ever remember elderly people who are less fortunate. They are the "Forgotten" ones. Pay it forward to our elderly. They have sacrificed so much in their time on this Earth and it takes so little of our time, money or effort to make an elderly person's day. If you can't afford to give gifts, remember that your time is the biggest gift of all. You don't have to be family to volunteer or just visit and become a new friend to an elderly person who is lonely. This could be your neighbor, a friend of the family or a complete stranger that needs your love. Remember our seniors and give your time to an elderly person who will be forever grateful.

This is such a great idea. Even if people can't afford gifts, they can visit. The gift of time is really important.

The gift of time is the most valuable thing. The elderly tend to be very lonely and some have few or no visitors. Thank you for watching and commenting.

They are literally the sweetest and most kind people. It's sad family members don't visit. I can't imagine doing that to a parent. I think it's important to show respect and kindness. Our Christmas will be spent at the nursing home. I think that's where we are needed most. I'm excited. Thank you for watching and commenting.

I appreciate that. We are excited to pay it forward to people who really need love and kindness. They are the sweetest people. I feel the same money we spent to make their day special is money we didn't need to spend on ourselves. At this point in our lives we don't need stuff but this will make them feel special. I'm excited to do this for people who deserve it. Thank you for watching and commenting.

This is a great idea. Jack's mom worked in such a facility for over 20 year before retiring. There are a lot of forgotten people out there. This is a great idea to honor them at Christmas! I am sure they will all enjoy their gifts. Thanks for doing such a great thing - and reminding us to do similarly. We hope you and your loved ones have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed 2024!

I think so many of us are able to do for others that truly deserve and need it but sometimes we need a reminder. It's important to remember where we came from and nursing home residents are often forgotten. It's heartbreaking how many elderly people have no visitors. I can't imagine doing that to my parents. I hope this video inspires someone to take time out of their day and go visit an elderly neighbor, friend or family member. Even if people can't afford gifts, our time is free but absolutely priceless to someone who is lonely. Merry Christmas to you, Jack and your family. Thank you for watching and commenting. ❤️

It's a terrible disease and I think family sometimes avoids visiting an Alzheimer's wing of a nursing home because it's hard to see our parents that way. I simply hope this inspires others to put some extra effort into people less fortunate than we are. Thank you for watching and commenting.

It's a shame but having quality times and doing things for them to help keep there spirits up is Very Important!!!

I hope you had a Merry Christmas and your new year is incredible. I do believe it's so important to shower our elderly with love and attention whenever possible. That's the greatest gift of all. I can say the residents were so grateful for their Christmas gift bags we gave them. I actually had 1 woman tell me she didn't deserve it. Can you imagine someone feeling as though they were not worthy of a Christmas gift? I told her "you all deserve it morn and than anyone else I know. " It almost brought me to tears when she said that. They really are the sweetest people. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Merry Christmas. I miss you all so much. You've been through a lot this year and I just want to get over there and see you. We are spending Christmas day with mom at the nursing home. I think it will be fun handing out all of the Christmas bags. I made candy bags this evening for each gift bag. They will love that. Thank you for watching and commenting. I know they'll all love the bags. It's a wonderful thing you're doing for them! I would love to see you guys again, too!! We did our Christmas here at the house with my mom and the kids today, since Jake's girlfriend's family is here from Minnesota, and they'll be with them in the morning. Plus, we'll be doing 2 Christmases tomorrow still.
Greg got us floor seats to see Rolling Stones again, VIP, in Chicago this June. I'm so excited. That was my BIG gift! And his brother's are going too and his one brother's girlfriend (who's really like another sister in law, since they built a house together ❤️)
We had great food, and a wonderful day. And my stomach actually behaved today!!! What a massive blessing that was!!!! Have a wonderful day tomorrow!!! Love you bunches!!!!!!!

@@melissagardner6701 I'm so sorry I'm way behind on comments. Christmas was nice. Mom still understands quite a bit. She's mostly current events confused and repeats herself. We did Christmas evening at our place with just Joe, Gary and myself after spending the afternoon at the nursing home. The residents loved their gifts. It was nice. I'm glad you had a great Christmas with your mom, the kids and family. Stones tickets! That's awesome!!! I love you and hope you are all doing great. Thank you for watching and commenting.

It was 2 trips to the store for everything and the cart was overflowing the second trip. It is unfortunate that so many nursing home residents will not see visitors. I'm sure some do not live close but the ones that are close enough to visit and don't, should be ashamed. We should never avoid family and friends because it's not pleasant for ourselves. We should imagine how horrible it is for them and show them we care by visiting. Thank you for watching and commenting.

It's so sad to see residents that have no visitors. They are always so excited when we show up to visit with my mom. They gather around the table and join in the conversation each visit. It's important to remember where we came from and not avoid them because it's hard to see. Hopefully, this will remind someone of the importance. Thank you for watching and commenting.
