    I recently “lost” my swing. It felt like I was swinging a club for the very first time. I’ve never been so frustrated with my game until I saw this video. All I did was grip my club at about a 3 and my swing came back better than ever. It’s my only swing thought and everything else fell into place naturally. Thanks for the awesome vid. Lots of love from 🇨🇦.

    Another excellent lesson. And this is EXACTLY what I've been doing for a whole and have lost a lot of distance over the months. And I was never able to figure out why. This makes sense. Thanks a million. Will be working on the loose grip too and width and extension.

      @ Greg Jack
      I too concentrate on keeping the right arm as straight as possible( slightly bent ) to get width . The left wrist flat and the right cupped with little or no hinging in either wrist. It works great 👍 . Just make sure your upper arms ( biceps ) are connected to your rib cage otherwise your arms will become disconnected from your body when striving for that extra width in the backswing. That happened to me and was pointed out by an instructor.

  • @martinhardman9288
    @martinhardman9288 3 роки тому

    Yes! I DO have to think about wrist hinge on the way back. I think to keep the club in front of my body, get the grip wide and deep and it feels like the clubhead is away from my head. Then small "bump" and big rotation. Just wish I could get this feeling in every comp! Your videos are tremendous!

    I've recently discovered your channel and really like the content - not too technical and very well explained, thanks!
    One query re the tee in glove drill; as the club passes impact and the hands re-hinge into the follow through where/when should the tee start to put pressure into the arm? I find that post-impact thoughts can help getting ball-bound and help to swing 'through' the ball.

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks Michael! Hard to say exactly what it would be at impact, as you will subconsciously grip the club tighter in the downswing as you pick up speed. The best idea is to feel it staying loose for the entire swing 👍🏼

    Hi Jonathan, I'm a little late to the party but I hope you see this anyway.
    Great tip with the "minimal hinge" feel - really improves consistency.
    Have you ever measured how it affects you club speed vs a "wristier" action?
    And how does it ultimately affect your ball speed, distance, strike, accuracy etc.?
    Cheers

    I have a question about the grip/hinge and wondered if you’d ever seen it happened with anyone else. Something about my back swing/grip and hinge is causing the last three finger on my “right hand“ to come away from the club leaving just the thumb and index finger of the right hand gripping the club at the top of the swing. My left hand remains on the club as per normal. This only happened during an actual shot/swing and never during a practice swing. I also use an interlock grip.

    I was hoping you could explain wrist hinge on the downswing. How long should I try and keep it coming down and when should I be releasing it?

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  3 роки тому

      If the wrist hinge is in a manageable spot in the backswing, you won’t need to think about it in the downswing. If the wrist hinge gets lost early, it will either be a club face or pivot issue

    I do have gradual swing. However, I like to start hinging up when the club is parallel to the ground in backswing otherwise I feel like the arms go more in depth inside....could you please comment whether this is correct what I am thinking? Thanks.

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  3 роки тому

      If you’re getting good width and have a nice free backswing turn, then you’ll get a great amount of depth without the risk of compromising your pivot. But if the hinge you’re adding isn’t hurting your swing, then go for it 👍🏼

    I cannot understand why a cupped left wrist means a steep shaft. All it does is open the club face. If you have a steep shaft you have rotated the forearm

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  3 роки тому +2

      I demonstrate clearly that it does here from isolating the movement.. Try the movement yourself without the ball, the club shaft will steepen. If you’re meaning forearm pronation, that will shallow the shaft. Supination will steepen that shaft, but is a very unusual movement to do in transition. Cupping the lead wrist, trail shoulder internal rotation, shaft pull down, and lead forearm supination all steepen the club. The only way a cupped wrist won’t steepen the shaft, is if it’s matched up with a lot of lead forearm pronation, or a lot of trail shoulder external rotation.

    • @pigslefats
      @pigslefats 3 роки тому +1

      @@jchowngolf Place your left forearm on a table, club in hand and shaft vertical. Cup or bow your left wrist. Nothing happens to the shaft lean. All that happens is the club face moves. The only way to get shaft away from vertical is to pronate or supinate the left forearm. In transition, supinating and trail shoulder internally rotating will steepen the shaft. Shaft pull down might. It all depends on the direction of the pull down. If it is a vertical pull down then obviously yes.

    Disagree! I keep my wrist hinge at the same angle throughout the swing as at address. As a result the clubhead stays square throughout the swing. Maintain width in the swing by keeping left arm straight(ish). Super consistent accurate shots.
