I had the chance to train with Amos sensei, it is such a treat. Besides his unbelievable karate, he is one of the best, if not the best teacher out there.
I greatly enjoyed volume one of this series both as a practitioner and as an instructor for beginners. Amos sensei is an excellent karateka and he has an amazing ability to explain the techniques and how they should be applied, as well as relating them to the underlying principles of movement. Now I've just ordered volume two, and I'm looking forward to learning more from this DVD. I would highly recommend them to any karate practitioner and instructor. Keep up the good work :) Arnstein
Very nice DVD, with good explanations and demonstrations. The production is also very professional. My favourite part is the end of vol 1, the nice shot of the kata Suishu :)
Ok I have the first vol. of the series. I've watched it and I like it. I wouldn't go to say that a person will learn from this alone but it's next best thing if your stuck that way somehow. I'll be using it along my instruction and to insure I keep my techniques down and remember the key points. The teacher does good explaining the exact components of the teachnique. My fav. was the stance actually. So as far as dvds go, this is a good buy if you want some thing to help study your shotokan
@IEKUKATAKA You are probably unaware of JKA politics and the split in the 90`s. If you look up JKA at wiki, you find this. "The list at the JKA's website, which includes most members who left or were expelled, may also be incomplete... during the troubled period between 1990 and 1999 each JKA faction held its own instructors' course." Amos graduated in 1994, I believe. I should have mentioned that at the time there were two hombu dojos (Takanawa and Ebisu), but I assumed everyone knew that.
@iklmmm "watch u fight richard amos"... LOL! I have seen Richard in kumite, and I put my money on that being a short fight indeed. Of course, on UA-cam we are all heros on the keybord :-)
@myke098 Who decides that? The JKA has gone through several splits because of internal politics. The WTKF which Richard heads is just one of those splinter groups, but founded by some of the top names in JKA Shotokan karate.
@mekarateka I've actually removed that comment now as it got the most likes so is at the top of the page. It was posted before you could reply @someone... you are about the 5th person to think i'm referring to richard amos...
@mekarateka Was i referring to Richard Amos? No for fuck sake. I was referring to a guy in the comments who was acting an internet tough guy saying he could kick ass with his "own" 7th dan... PLEASE READ THE COMMENTS before jumping to conclusion.
Looks good. And judging from the people on here. I might try his first one. But just wonder how expensive it is.......Hey just looked it up. Not really that expensive after all. Nice.
@Red171 Thats a pretty ridiculous comment. Richard Amos is one of the tiny handful of Westerners who completed the instructors course at the JKA hombu, bashing it out daily with the likes of Asai, Kagawa, Isaka, Abe, Kawaguch sensei etc. ... the very top of Shotokan Karate. If you saw him in person (I have) you wouldn´t make such a silly comment.
@IEKUKATAKA He practised in Ebisu before the split and went through the instructors course during and after the split. And at the time there TWO hombu dojos -- they were both called that, and the court case was raging. In retroactively re-writing history, you are dissing some of the greatest instructors at the time (and today)... Yahara, Abe, Kagawa, etc etc. Fact is, Amos did graduate the course, and if the current JKA leaves out names from the other faction, that is pure politics.
maybe its just me but his sword hand at 1:31 seemed abit sloppy.... perhaps just cos its the demo? dunno, but masters always have those things in check dont they?
His mawashi geri looks limp, apparently his kicking foot does not have the proper form as it would be his big toe and not the ball of the foot, as it should be, that hits the target.
@IEKUKATAKA I don´t know what list you are looking at, but you are definitely wrong. I was not there at the time (as a student in the hombu dojo, not in the instructors class, lol), and I met him as well as all the world-famous instructors at the time. He was teaching and HAD graduated from the instructors class (the first westerner ever, I understand). Look, this is nothing to argue. Whatever source you found, it is wrong.
You're right many of Nishiyama's students were copying his short stances and his inability to straighten his rear leg in front stance and his inability to kick. People like Avi Rokah showing bad geriatric karate
@Red171 Richard Amos is not a 7th dan ,he is 6th dan from one of the JKA's instructor called Abe (keigo)sensei ..however he has a good standard .you coming up here talking crap, move your back side do a bit of work not just bal baling
@IEKUKATAKA Nishiyama left Japan then his karate did not get better ,just he was older and every one had to say oss oss,look the people trained with him all moving like an old man ,Nishiyama could not make them to understand they should not copy his body .
@streetball420 "The samurai started teaching it hundreds of years ago and it eventually became known as Shotokan." Umm.. actually, that is not true. Shotokan is the style of Karate that Funakoshi brought to the Japanese mainland from Okinawa relative recently (pre WW2). And the Samurai practised sword fighting and number of old-style kobudo, not Karate. I agree that Shotokan is a strong and respected style of Karate, but making up fake history is not helpful...
Anyone that has to keep saying highly acclaimed and international star and all that jazz is really blowing that own horn. To be honest this guy is just average.

I'll be posting on here what I think when I receive it. As well as on Amazon
Nice! Your dvds are exelent, probably the best ones out there. I would recomend them to anyone, white belt to black belt.

Richar Amos is the best no japanese Karate teacher in the World today...

@IEKUKATAKA
I agree about the Japanese but I know Mr. Amos. I can state he is the best on the Subject. Much better than the most of Japanese Masters.
only if you dont understand the true meaning of why the hand is pulled back, believe me it has many purposes.
@myke098

@Red171
I simply commented on the guy who foolishly dissed Richard Amos.
Sorry if I got an attribution wrong.
@me2igloo That is true and Shotokan is not an original Okinawan style and it was created way after Goju, Uechi, Shorin- and Isshin ryu.
Looks good. And judging from the people on here. I might try his first one. But just wonder how expensive it is.......Hey just looked it up. Not really that expensive after all. Nice.

@Derukugi2 My comment was directed towards akaniger who's account is now suspended.... was akaniger Richard Amos??

this was a while ago, i'm not dissing this video, but someone on a youtube comment, i should use @ in my replies
maybe its just me but his sword hand at 1:31 seemed abit sloppy.... perhaps just cos its the demo? dunno, but masters always have those things in check dont they?
DEAR IEKUKATAKA, tell us the name of the JKA Master who has kicked your ass!!
His mawashi geri looks limp, apparently his kicking foot does not have the proper form as it would be his big toe and not the ball of the foot, as it should be, that hits the target.
Richard is one the Best Karateka in the World my friend. Everybody knows Mawashi gueri must be done with the ball of the foot.

You've obviously never trained with Dave Hazard

My other comment will be on Amazon. Titled name as "DD"
@IEKUKATAKA
Oh, so now suddenly Shotokan is OK again?
LOL.... a paragon of clear thought.... not.
the guy trains and teaches a couple times a week, master or not. Looks like there is some hype with the videos but hey, take what you can get.
