BWV 542 is the essence of "The Joy of Bach". So wonderful on the organ, and the Liszt transcription is very entertaining. But when I purchased this LP in 1966, it was an amazing experience. I realize that close miking, a 16' harpsichord stop, and turning up the bass a bit with a big subwoofer aren't quite realistic, but I'll leave that for the purists.
This work is clearly ill-suited to the pedal harpsichord, which lacks the sustaining power required to hold the long pedal notes of the Fantasy. The long, sustained chords in the manuals are also impossible to realize on the harpsichord. The pedal harpsichord was certainly useful as a home practice instrument for organists, but it cannot come close to realizing the sustaining power required by this work, to name but one.
The best thing I've ever heard.
I know these are done for Organ and they are beautiful on the instrument, but there is richness here that is just as powerful.
Un cuore in sospensione fra l'inferno e il paradiso. ... magnifica!

I loved that album! I wish that I still had it.
Bach is the expression of existence of God!
E non solo di Dio. ....

People can say what they want but Bach is the biggest componist of all.
