The Sonatas are masterpieces in every single aspect for organ music this cannot be denied!

absolutely wonderful performance, and this pedal clavichord has to be one of the most beautiful man made objects i have ever seen: such austere beauty, nothing can be added and nothing can be taken away, just like Bach´s music

Be careful what you wish for! The trio sonatas are deceptively difficult - true brain and coordination puzzles. 3 of the 6 are rated as the most difficult pieces of Bach.

  • @michaelgamble296

Difference being: Dr. Karosi is playing a Clavichord - a 'tangent' struck instrument - which is in itself interesting as being the only keyboard instrument it is possible to create a tremulant to its sound. This requires a good deal of after-touch available though. The Glyndebourne Goble is a H'chord. The 16' on the H'chord is available right to the top key - which is where Martin Isepp got this beautiful flute sound. Anyone with a 16' on their H'chord should try this!

Unusual now, yes; but I suspect it may, in the eighteenth Century, have been a common "home practice instrument" for.....guess what! Organists - saving them
creeping into cold church organ lofts, and having to pay for the "pump person".

This must be the most difficult instrument to play in the world. You have to control the dynamics as on the piano, and simultaneously play several manuals and a pedalboard as on the organ.

    • @bkarosi

      indeed

    • @jindrichnovak3830
      @jindrichnovak3830 4 роки тому +1

I think you can't really control the dynamics that much because of how this instrument is constructed. Also organ is a bit harder because of more manuals/stops etc. Still an omega instrument to play. Listening to this music is pure joy.

What strings are used for the 16'? Are they copper covered. The 16' Goble stop (two manual) produces the most amazing sound in its upper registers which Martin Isepp used to make the most of at Glyndebourne. I used to tune there for over 1/4 Century!!

I keep wondering about having the pedals at 16' pitch. Do we have any historical evidence that pedal harpsichords/clavichords would preferentially have a 16' stop? That is, if there could only be one stop on the pedals, it would be 16' and not 8'? Over the years, I become increasingly convinced that the French thought of the (organ) pedals as being at written pitch (i.e. the 8' is always dominant, even if 16' or 32' stops are included), whereas for the Germans, the pedals were treated as an octave below written pitch (much like the contrabass). If this is true, then, naturally, in a German-oriented instrument, if you can only afford to have one stop on the pedals, it would be 16'.

    TWANG, toWOng, TWING
Yeah this was most definitely a practice instrument for the organ
Pretty amazing that you have one and great playing, it's just not a very good instrument as a concept, there were a lot of issues with the sound production of clavichords, one of them how rough and weird bass notes came out, that's why ultimately it was substituted by the Pianoforte.

    • @Xezlec

  • @jacksongrant15

It's an odd passive listening experience but unlike the organ, you can really pick apart the piece with attentive listening more readily due to the sharpness of the timbre and less echoey resonance.
